Welcome to the roots A big welcome to our 19th Smithwick's Kilkenny Roots Festival. Thanks to all our sponsors, helpers and supporters. I will hand over this space to the wonderful John Murry to talk about this year's festival. Off you go, John! John Cleere Festival Director.

An Introduction By John Murry Here at Kilkenny Roots Festival I have seen artists perform in intimate venues against the backdrop of this medieval city through the soft focus sunsets blooming across the early summer skies of The Sunny SouthEast of Ireland. I have had the pleasure of both seeing some of the finest music the world has to offer and, by default of playing the festival more times than anyone who treasures their freedom ought, meeting the finest audience the world has to offer, all a city only God (or Willie Meighan and John Cleere and the other scoundrels responsible) could have dreamt up! This year, it is my distinct pleasure and privilege to welcome you to The 19th Kilkenny Roots Festival! For 19 years, without the aid of the global conspiracy that is the musical industrial complex, this festival has ushered in acts that have inspired and transformed not just those in attendance, but the music world at large, and it has done so through unadulterated love of music, love

of community and a certain quiet pride that only those who fly the black and amber of the Kilkenny Cats seem to carry. Speaking of which, this year I am to wear a multitude of hats (not just the white one). So: If you are in need of 100% absolutely accurate information pertaining to the festival, have questions about where you are in Kilkenny in relation to where you’d like to be, are in need of a history lesson or require a brief tour of the immediate area in which we find ourselves passing pleasantries, then I’m your man. That’s right, folks. I am appointing myself this year’s “Officially Sanctioned Advice and Opinion Giving American“. OH YEAH! In addition, I’ll be hosting the 1st annual “John Murry’s Roots Ramble” on Monday! See you there! Welcome to the 19th Annual Kilkenny Roots Festival!

Special Thanks To Our organising committee of Arthur Drohan, Willie Meighan, Willie Byrne, Karol Ryan, Malcolm Noonan and all our volunteers. To Karol Ryan (Programme, poster & website), Brian Cleere (Online marketing, video), Anthony Griffin (Photography). To The Irish Times, Irish Examiner, Irish Independent, Kilkenny People, Kilkenny Reporter, KCLR FM, RTE, Newstalk, Today FM.
