Wielkopolska region - lead partner The Wielkopolska region is one of the biggest in Poland. It has an area of around 30,000 km² and its inhabitants number up to 3,400,000. In the region are important routes like the A2 motorway from Berlin through Poland to Minsk, the S5 express road to Wrocław and the S11 express road to the Baltic Sea. Altogether there are 1,674 km of roads. The length of the railway network in Wielkopolska is 1605 km, which constitutes over 10% of the national railway network. From the year 2006 we have been observing stable growth in the number of rail passengers. According to this growth, the Board of the

own limited liability railway company “Koleje Wielkopolskie”(www.kolejewielkopolskie.com.pl). The Transport Department is responsible for buying of a new railway stock for the regional transport and for modernization of trains and railways in Wielkopolska. The project idea was born due to the decision to have the UEFA Football Championship 2012 organized in the Ukraine and in Poland. This decision put a focus on the weak accessibility of many airport regions in the Central Europe Programme area by means of air transport. Modernisation of a railway line Poznan-Golancz Wielkopolska Region has introduced 22 railbuses for passengers travelling within the region. The number of the Poznań-Ławica airport passengers, which operates over 30 international and domestic destinations is also systematically growing. The Transport Department at Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region is responsible for organizing and development of regional public train and bus transportation and cooperates with the Poznań – Ławica airport (POZ). The Board of the Region is next to the city of Poznań and the state company “Polish Airports” an owner of this regional airport. Last year it established also an

objective to improve CE regions’ accessibility through air and local public transport interconnectivity.

Poznan Airport Development prior to EURO 2012 – the basic structure of the terminal will be erected. For the EURO 2012 match days, the terminal building will be adjusted to the reception of game attendees. The second stage of the extension – due to be closed by April 2013 - will see the new terminal fully integrated with the existing one which will be transformed into a departure terminal, whereas the new spaces will accommodate an arrival hall and check-in area.

Poznan is a modern city with an over thousand-year history rooted in the origins of Polish state, very conveniently located at a key international route (BerlinWarsaw-Moscow). Poznan is conveniently interconnected with the region, the whole Poland and foreign countries. The city itself is inhabited by over half a million people, whereas the whole conurbation - by over a million. It is one of the greatest economic centers in Poland ranked right behind the capital city of Warsaw with regard to investment credibility. As a host city of EURO 2012 Football Championship – Poznan is being prepared to welcome football fans and UEFA guests which will visit in June 2012. Many of them will enter the city through the gates of Poznan Airport. The capacity of the existing stylish steel-and-glass passenger terminal is estimated at 1.5 million per year, and in peak hours it can handle 940 passengers per hour. The terminal is equipped with 16 check-in desks and 5 gates. Poznan Airport has undertaken a range of infrastructural projects aiming at increasing the capacity of the passenger terminal, the aprons and the runway. The construction of a new passenger terminal started with the beginning of May 2011. Its twin parachute-like structure is currently being erected west of the existing terminal. After the extension, the terminal will be granted class "C" according IATA classification and will be capable of handling over 1100 departing and 1900 arriving passengers in an hour. During the first stage of the extension –

With the beginning of July 2011 the construction of a taxiway parallel to the runway along with highspeed exits started at Poznan Airport. Due to this parallel taxiway, runway capacity will increase from a dozen to over 30 movements per hour. At the same time, the extension of the aprons has also started. The new apron measuring 45 700 m² will occupy the grounds in front of the new passenger terminal west of the existing one. Thanks to the new aprons, Poznan Airport will gain 6 extra parking stands, and the total number of parking stands will increase from 17 to 23. Large-scale Poznan Airport development is complemented by CHAMPIONS project tasks carried out within the framework Central Europe Programme co-financed by European Regional Development Fund, thanks to which the airport accessibility and interconnectivity will enjoy a significant increase.

New Terminal in Wrocław Airport spacious, air-conditioned hall of arrivals and departures that’s up to three storeys high (13 to 19 m) with up to four thousand squaremetres of commercial space. It will include a new shopping centre, services, restaurants and cafes – including a football pub and “sky bar”. Travellers will benefit from 22 new check-in stations, 12 gates and eight security checks. The new Wrocław terminal is equipped with a state of the art baggage inspection system, including the two tomographic devices. In front of the airport you’ll find more than a thousand new parking spaces.

By the end of 2011, the construction of a new terminal of the Wrocław Airport will be completed. Wrocław was the first host city to begin building a new airport terminal, and it will be the first to see it in use. Just in time for the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championships. The new facility will be able to handle twice as many passengers than it can today and will be four times larger than the present one. Passengers will have access to a

The airport’s operational capabilities will also increase. The Wrocław airport will be able to handle 36 flight operations per hour – this means that every minute and a half, a plane can take off or land. For comparison, at the moment it performs about 12-14 such operations per hour. The entire airport will be able to house as many as 30 air-craft simultaneously. The new planned Passenger Information System, implemented in the project CHAMPIONS, will also be located in the new opened terminal, which is the main point of the study of pre-investment preparation studies.

APT Gorizia - better service by RTVM APT Gorizia renews its look giving continuity in the field of self-service sale of tickets by confirming the collaboration with AEP Ticketing Solution, one of the most important Italian companies that designs and produces equipments and systems for electronic ticketing. The first step involves one of the most relevant points of the corporate network: Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport. In addition to Tourism FVG information point where it was, and is it still possible to buy tickets, APT has installed an automatic ticket vending machine. Now, stimulated by the participation with FVG Airport in the European program CHAMPIONS and also by the dialogue with other program partners, APT decided to make a decisive qualitative leap, by replacing the existing ticket vending machine with a higher performanced new model.

The principles at the roots of the choice are essentially two:

to make the purchase easier and accessible;

to offer additional choices of payment more useful for customers coming from the extra-euro area too.

In the near future APT is going to install an electronic pole at the bus stop, that will provide all sort of dynamic informations to the customers. The new RTVM-I (Road Ticket Vending Machine), evolution of the previous model, enriched with some innovative peripherals, including a color LCD touch screen display with intuitive graphical interface, makes it truly

"userfriendly". Two "tool-bar", located on the top and on the bottom of the display, offer continuous assistance to users during every selection and purchase step. Choices are various: the new vending machine allows the sale of both urban and regional tickets for all destinations; the user can choose his point of arrival, when necessary, he can also change the default departure point by using the progressive choice keyboard shown on the display. Methods of payment have also evolved: in addition to the traditional payment by cash, which includes the function of change into coins, it will be possible the purchase easily by selecting ATM POS payment and most of the common credit cards. In the future it will be given to season ticket holders the possibility to renew their travel card. As the vending machine will be used by both locals and foreigners, it has been equipped with a multi-language support: Italian, English, German and Slovene. The machine hardware and software can be also integrated with next electronic ticketing systems, infact it is compatible with ISO 14443 A and B standards designed to the use of smart card "contactless" which are now becoming increasingly popular in public transport too. To get informations easily, simple ticketing, accurate information provided in a comfortable environment and high-performance of services for arriving passengers, are the winning cards to play on the table of the quality of services. In the final analysis APT is sure that at the completation of this kind of improvement, in cooperation with FVG Airport, it will be possible to offer to in-coming passengers a better service.

Business Workshop 2011 at Airport Rzeszow-Jasionka

On the 17th of November, the Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport hosted numerous guests at the “Business Workshop 2011”. The event gathered the great guests - representatives of Marshall Office, airlines, tour operators, travel agencies as well as air transport specialists. The main idea of the workshop was to discuss current trends and problems that might affect intensively developing cooperation between mentioned entities.

Very precise findings about the traffic demand intrigued the gathered audience and the airport management stressed that the mentioned figures confirmed the findings on demand from previous years. The research results also highlighted the eagerness of travellers to have new destinations from the Airport. The presentation was concluded by the findings which showcased demand for new passenger routes including leisure routes. Finally the stage was taken by Mr. Frank Elder - an air transport expert form the British company Feather Consulting, based in Manchester. The main theme of his presentation was SWOT analysis of Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport. Moreover he also stressed on online, destination and relationship marketing. During his presentation he also urged guests to support the development of the airport for betterment of Podkarpackie Region.

The session started with a presentation of the advertising agency MDI. The company is responsible for design and implementation of Rzeszow airports’ loyalty program. Such a well – planned project was found as one of the most creative among airports in Poland. The presenter showed the detailed outline of the program “Rzeszow Airport – Closer to You” as well as identified key success factors that must be fulfilled in order to achieve the established goal. The logo of the program a colorful butterfly is expected to be well-recognized among people from Podkarpackie and linked to the brand of Rzeszow-Jasionka airport.

In the evening the airport authorities organized a splendid gala for associated companies and many years’ friends. The Gala revealed some of the impressive benchmarks which Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport achieved in the year 2010.

The second presentation was delivered by the air transport specialists Mr. Michal Nedza and Mr. Sumeer Chakuu from the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow. The specialists discussed the

We discussed about Study and pilot investment. 20th October 2011 - Meeting with contractor of Traffic Demand Forecast Study (UBM Aviation from Manchaster), we signed the contract and discussed about the Study and how the Study should be elaborated and presented.

Lviv International Airport The renewal of the biggest aviation junction in Western Ukraine, Lviv International Airport, within the confines of preparations for EURO 2012 provides for the rebuilding and prolonging of the runway, platform, existing terminal and the building of a new terminal and temporary terminals by 2012. The design for a modern terminal in high-tech style was developed by the company Tebodin Ukrayina with the help of the NACO company (Netherland Airport Consultants). The new terminal of Lviv International Airport meets international architectural, construction and technical standards and requirements of the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and recommendations of the IATA (International Air Transport Association). The airport building itself will consist of two areas of various sizes: the main passenger and technological part and the communications and assistance gallery. The waiting rooms and check-in areas and baggage handling areas are situated in the central part of the building on the first floor, while customs control, border control and aviation safety control are housed on the second and third floors. Technical and reserve areas will be housed in

the gallery, as will be service offices. The commercial part of this section in the terminal occupies 1,083 square metres (commerce and food courts), and airline offices occupy 627 square metres. A total of 29 lanes for passenger checkin, 18 lanes for passport control and 9 control points for aviation security are envisaged. The renovated airport aims to serve class А, В, С and D (like the Boeing-767) aircraft. It is planned to decorate the interior of the airport in Ukrainian ethno style. In the draught sketches the columns are decorated with tiles in a Ukrainian embroidery design and the elements of Ukrainian painted Easter eggs are used as a mosaic on the floors in the first floor halls. The Tebodin Ukrayina company was also involved in developing the original design of combining high-tech and ethno elements. A four-storey garage with 400 parking spots is also envisaged, as is open parking for 900 places, of which 150 are for company cars, as well as access roads for public and private transport. Work is going ahead today at an accelerated pace and the metal roof construction is

being assembled. Works to arrange the cover and the external systems of the main part of the building will be completed by the middle of November. Once all works are completed the “air gate” of Galicia, which up till now serviced 8 regions of Ukraine, will be transformed into a powerful regional port. At the same time, this will be only the first stage in the port’s modernization. The second stage, to be completed by 2020, envisages the expansion of the terminal building and increasing passenger handling capacity and installation of additional equipment which will increase the passenger handling capacity to 2,000 passengers per hour. An international hub on the basis of Lviv Airport could be created in the future, which would meet the standards of Boryspil Airport.

Polo Intermodale - new railway link Trieste Airport will soon be one of the few Italian airports directly linked to a railway station, that will be raised on the Trieste-Venice railway line running just 250 metres in front of the existing air terminal. This airport interchange – called “Polo Intermodale” – will be built on a 475.000-sqm area and will include not only the already mentioned railway station but also a new coach station and new parking areas, directly linked to the air terminal thus allowing a seamless interchange between surface transport modes and air services.

Aeroporto FVG SpA – the airport managing company – the local and regional authorities, as well as RFI – the Italian Railways infrastructures

operator – will thus build a multimodal interchange that will greatly ease and improve airport accessibility.

On the 29th of September 2011, this project reached its final preplanning stage, with all the subjects involved signing its final planning agreement.

IHK Erfurt - Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce (CCI) Erfurt is a public body with an internal system of accountability. CCI is based in Erfurt, the capital of the State of Thuringia. It works to

benefit about 61.000 enterprises in industry, commerce and service. The membership of CCI is mandatory for all firms with the exception of businesses in the craft sector, farms and some freelance professions. CCI Erfurt represents its members in relations with the political and administrative deci-

sion-makers in Thuringia. The CCI underlines the importance of accessibility of the City of Erfurt and its attractiveness for potential investors, that have a positive impact on any regional economic development.

EPC - European Programme Centre Europa Programm Center (EPC) / c.o. TIAW e. V. - has considerable experience in the project management field, particularly in cooperation with new member states. Another aspect of the EPC/ c.o. TIAW is the support of Thuringian companies and scientific institutions by bringing them together with potential clients, as well as improving the economic strength of the project partners. One of the core competences of the EPC is the project management in the field of regional development, labour market, local affairs and trans-regional cooperation. The EPC is also responsible for the regional partnership ErfurtLviv. Thuringia can benefit from the increasing utilization and the improved accessibility of the airport Erfurt. In CHAMPIONS project EPC is responsible for WP2 – Project com-

munication, knowledge management and dissemination. On the 5th August 2011 a bilateral meeting in Erfurt was held between Ms. Hrytsyshyn and Mr. Pidhorodetsky. Main topics were the information exchange concerning the extension of the Lviv airport. Mr Pidhorodetskyy, director of Lviv airport and of the Lviv airline "Lvivski Avialinii" explained the current state and the following steps. On 24. August the new runway has been opened in attendance of the Ukrainian Minister for regional development Mr. Kolesnihov. In January/February 2012 the reconstructed airport will be given to its destination.
