Purpose To provide a high quality environment for out of school hours so that children will have a happy and productive time in safe and secure surroundings.

Hours of Operation After School Care opens at 3.00pm and closes at 6.00pm SHARP. A late fee of $16 for every 15 minutes or part thereof applies for children collected after 6.00pm. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Staff The ASC Program is coordinated and conducted by experienced staff. Mosman Church of England Preparatory School adheres to a staff ratio of 1:15 (one staff member for every 15 children) with at least two staff members working at any given time.

Our Statement of Philosophy Mosman Prep After School Care is committed to providing a quality service where children, families and staff value learning in a setting which encourages a reflective approach towards the principles, practices and outcomes to enhance learning through belonging, being and becoming. Our setting is guided by the ‘My Time Our Place’ framework because it clarifies our focus in assisting each child to feel safe, secure and supported and to develop a strong sense of identity.

Each child can also have the opportunity to be connected with and contribute to their world, develop a strong sense of well being, be confident and involved learners and effective communicators.

Mosman Prep After School Care is guided by the principles, practices and outcomes which enhance our decision making in regard to: The Program - Our approach is to consider what we teach and why, with the emphasis on the children contributing ideas and interests and linking this to the program so the children view themselves as involved contributors and communicators in their learning.

It is our intention to develop a balanced program which considers the age appropriate developmental areas for the children in our service and assists in ensuring that the activities we provide are not only reflective of the childrens’ contributions, but also provide a platform for learning through play and leisure activities, craft and artistic expression, exploration and social connections.

We view our program as dynamic and constantly evolving as this approach assists in ensuring that our service is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all children and assists each child to strive towards recognising their potential.

The Health and Safety of each child - We are committed to encouraging the children to be active participants in contributing to ways in which there is a growing awareness of their health and safety. Positive decision making and learning to take responsibility is encouraged so the children become aware of their health and safety needs as they develop a strong sense of wellbeing across the range of developmental areas.

Our Environment - We aim to make Mosman Prep After School Care a stimulating place where children can explore, play, be curious, responsive and positive about contributing to and respecting the environment. We believe that active participation in the after school setting assists children to be connected with and contribute to their world.

Relationships - Staff have a strong focus on the relationships which are built with the children and we have a significant emphasis on the importance of building and encouraging respectful relationships which can influence the relationship between other children and adults. We believe that when children feel safe and also sure that they belong to a group and a setting where there are fair and consistent guidelines about behaviour, they learn to respect themselves, others and their environment. Mosman Prep After School Care provides a framework known as the Code of Conduct which facilitates guidance and ways in which respect can be built and put into practise.

The Code of Conduct - states: • I will respect everyone and everything • I will be responsible for myself and others • I will be kind and caring • I will strive to do my best By striving to encourage each component of the Code of Conduct, we are committed to advocating that it is fundamental to respect and value differences between people and this can assist in promoting acceptance and equality of opportunity at Mosman Prep After School Care.

Our Staff - We believe that as educators, we need to reflect a commitment to ongoing professional development and an awareness of the need for ongoing thoughtfulness about each staff member’s contribution to the service in their role as an educator. We aim to facilitate discussion about the values and beliefs which our educators hold in respect to our service. This is significant because these factors guide staff responses to the five learning outcomes within the ‘My Time Our Place’ framework and assist us to work within a professional learning community which is committed to continued improvement.

As professionals, staff aim to abide by the Code of Ethics which states that the protection and wellbeing of children is paramount. The Code of Ethics is also a source for critical reflection in respect to professional standards which challenge and guide best practice within our service.

Families - We believe that the partnership we nurture with each family is a core element in the quality of the service we provide at Mosman Prep After School Care. We are committed to fostering a meaningful partnership with families so they feel welcomed, supported and encouraged to communicate and contribute through questioning and the sharing of ideas and information about their child/ children within the family, their cultural ties, the After School Care setting and the community.

At Mosman Prep After School Care we will continually seek ways to facilitate open communication and dialogue and practice active listening skills which improve our knowledge and understanding of families without judgement.

We recognise and appreciate that families may have different beliefs, ideas and approaches within each family structure.

We believe that by commitment to upholding the principles, practices and outcomes which we strive to implement, we will nurture each child and there will be the opportunity to belong, be and become.

Program The After School Care program aims to provide quality care for children from Kindergarten through to Year 6 and does not include excursions. This Program is available to Mosman Prep, Queenwood & Blessed Sacrament students.

Queenwood & Blessed Sacrament Schools make their own arrangements with regards to bringing students to ASC. A variety of structured, as well as unstructured, indoor and outdoor games, activities and homework supervision are provided. In general our afternoon routine is as follows:

3.00pm

Mosman Prep children are collected from the seats on the basketball court after school.

3.10-3.20pm

Children attending from Queenwood or Blessed Sacrament arrive for After School Care which is at the rear of 75 Shadforth Street, Mosman.

3.30-4.30pm

Afternoon tea

Free play, incorporating a variety of physical activities.

4.30-5.45pm

Homework/quiet indoor activities

5.45-6.00pm

Children help clean up/pack away

Prior to 4.30pm children can be collected from the playground and after 4.30pm from the ASC Room located at 73 Shadforth Street.

Afternoon tea Afternoon tea is organised through the School Canteen.

We do have some children attending with specific allergies. The most dangerous of these is an ANAPHYLACTIC reaction to nuts and for this reason we

are a NUT-FREE ZONE. Peanut butter and other nut-based products are not provided and we ask that do you not send nut-products with your child.

Children may bring extra food to after school care, however we encourage no “junk” food as we encourage the children to make food choices which promote health and well-being.

Permanent Bookings

 A completed Child Information Sheet for our ASC records must be received by reception prior to the child’s attendance  Permanent bookings are $19 per afternoon  A permanent booking form must be completed for each child and returned to reception. A new booking form must be completed each Term by the end of Week One  All permanent bookings will be charged whether they are used or not and cannot be swapped for other days  Parents still need to advise the school if their child is not attending ASC for roll purposes  A parent (or their authorised representative) must sign-out children on the roll each afternoon and state time of collection

Casual Bookings

 A completed Child Information Sheet for our ASC records must be received by reception prior to the child’s attendance  Casual bookings are $26.00 per afternoon  Must be made before 12.00 noon on the day of ASC  Cancellations will be charged if we have not been notified before 12.00 noon on the day of attendance  A parent (or their authorised representative) must sign-out children on the roll each afternoon and state time of collection.

It is important that the school office is contacted before 12.00 noon on the required day for casual bookings. Bookings may not be accepted after 12 noon.

Additional Information

We invite parents/families to be active participants in our service. Please note that we have Policies, a Philosophy Statement and a Quality Improvement Plan available for parents to read and to also make comments and/or suggestions in regard to them.

It is essential that we are informed of any changes to your contact details i.e.

Work phone number/home and mobile numbers/emergency contacts. In case of an emergency we need to have current details to contact you.

If our service needs to update any of our records, we may require further information about your child/family. This information is used to keep us fully informed about how to best provide for the needs of the children and families who attend our service.

When you enrol your child in our service, there is an orientation procedure available and if requested, we will be pleased to assist you with this.

All staff at our service are Mandatory Reporters and therefore have a responsibility to act in accordance with the Regulations and procedures which help protect children from risk of harm and guards their safety, welfare and wellbeing.

Our service operates with a Complaints Policy and Procedures and any complaint or grievances will be addressed in a respectful and timely manner.

Accounts Parents will receive an account at the beginning of the term for permanent bookings and at the end of each term for casual bookings. Payments can be made by BPay or internet banking. Please contact school office for further details.

Please note there is no Government rebate available with this service.
