Academic Scholarship | Years 7-8 2018 Description

A Visual Arts Scholarship will be awarded to a student in Year 6 and Year 7 in 2017 for study through to Year 12, commencing in 2018. The scholarship is awarded to encourage excellence in Visual Arts and to develop the talents of gifted students. The Academic Scholarship examination is a prerequisite for this scholarship. The award of remission of tuition fees is based on the results of the Visual Arts examination. All scholarships are awarded at the Principal’s discretion. The School reserves the right in its absolute discretion not to award a scholarship in any particular year or any particular award. The School may give preference to external candidates.

Complete the Academic Scholarship examination on Saturday, 18 March 2017 Sit for a Visual Arts Examination on Monday, 27 March 2017

A Visual Arts Scholarship examination which will consist of two parts:

A written appreciation of an unseen artwork (approximately 1 hour) A practical activity (approximately 2 hours)

In the appreciation component of the examination, students will be shown an artwork and expected to show their understanding of the following:

Subject matter Composition The mood and feeling conveyed through the artwork The meaning or message communicated through the artwork

In the practical examination the student will be expected to use direct experiences of objects, manipulate materials and use their imagination to create a resolved artwork. Students will be asked to an interview only if results from the examination are similar for two or candidates. Students invited to an interview will be asked to bring one piece of artwork that they have created. The artwork will be discussed at the interview. Applicants will be notified if an interview is required. Please Note: No late applications will be accepted after Wednesday, 15 March 2017. Eligibility

Female students between the ages of 9 and 14, enrolled in Years 6 or 7 in 2017.

The scholarship is awarded to encourage excellence in Visual Arts and to develop the talents of gifted students. The Academic Scholarship examination is a prerequisite for this scholarship. This scholarship is open only to new students from outside of Queenwood. All scholarships are awarded at the Principal’s discretion. The School reserves the right in its absolute discretion not to award a scholarship in any particular year or any particular award. The Visual Arts examination will consist of two parts

In the one hour critical study component of the examination, students will be presented with an artwork and will be expected to demonstrate their understanding of how the Frames affect their interpretation of the artwork. The Frames are: Structural

How the artist has used the elements and principles of design.

Subjective

How the artist has expressed their feelings and created mood.

Cultural traditions.

How the artist has been influenced by society’s values and

Post Modern How the artist has used works or images from the past for a new purpose or in a new way. In the two hour practical component the student will be expected to demonstrate her ability in synthesising her ideas, subject matter and media into a well resolved artwork. Students will be asked to an interview only if the results from the examination are similar for two or more candidates. Students invited to an interview will be asked to bring one artwork to the interview they have created. The artwork will be discussed at the interview.
