The [FUN LAB] is proposed as an extension to the museum and arts component of the Chicago Cultural Center, establishing an epicenter for urban recreation, at the Millennium Park in Chicago! The [FUN]damental [LAB]yrinth proposes a total integration of people and spaces via technology. Drones, Big Data, & Augmented Reality, will effectively be used to address the daily needs, immediate demands, and fulfill entertainment-based aspirations of the people through a personalized delivery system by tapping into the ubiquity of their smart devices. The Static Observatory in the sky is boring. Here, the [FUN LAB] breaks that rut by designing the Ferris Terrace. The thesis is simple decentralize the static observatory. This ubiquity of the smart device in today’s age drives the inception of the smart phone application for the [FUN LAB], where ‘subjective fun’ strives to meet sustainable permanence, hence, transforming these devices into gateways to the Digital Dimension that enables the user to not only have fun but also access and interact the performance metrics of the buildings such as the electricity generated by the piezo electric flooring system. Criteria for Design: 1. Integration – Extension to the Chicago Cultural Center by proposing a mixed-used typology for urban recreation driven by the Digital Dimension. 2. Community – Activities and spaces for ‘subjective fun’ hence for all ages, genders, races, backgrounds. 3. Ecosystems – Breakout gardens, natural native vegetation adding to the urban greens. 4. Economy – Commercial retail, office, data ventures, drone services beyond the building. 5. Well-being – Promoting a healthy, active lifestyle, maximizing biophilic connection; with an aim to reduce the urban stress on life. 6. Change – Promoting community resilience through flexible and inclusive public spaces, using technology to unite individuals in all dimensions, breaking away from the liminality of the urban landscape. 7. Discovery – Finding new urban connections via this fresh mixed-use recreational typology, utilizing not just the physical but also the virtual and the augmented realities to discover new aspects of fun within life. 8. Energy – Harvesting the Solar energy through the Solar Dome (up to 150 watts per sq. m. for 24 arcs with area of~128.50 sq. m./ arc, thus generating max output of ~5,550 KWh/ day) and the Piezo Electric apparatus in the floor (up to 60 watts per 1000 steps/ person).

Central Promenade the main porch in the visage of a rowboat to marks the inception of the experience

The Project strives to establish one’s connection to and experience with/ around water. To achieve this, various architectures and structures from around the world were studied as cases and a tactile expression was derived and applied.

The design is manifested through extending the experience to the water via the axis, the boardwalk reminiscent wooden cladding, the row- boat inspired roof forms and railing.

The extended focus of the program to establish the site as a “destination” curates the formation of public courts, gardens, cafe spill-outs and seasonal swimming/ ice skating arena.

The project further emphasizes the connection to water (Clinton Lake) by formulating a central axis, the Central Promenade. The Promenade establishes a visual and physical connection from the very beginning and has several important moments sprouting off of it. There is a secondary axis, the Indoor Street, that is established perpendicular to the Central Promenade that helps organize the interior functions whilst extending the public realm indoors.

The Rowing Cafe as an intent serves the tired and hungry athletes after practice while simultaneously being open to the public.

On the other end of the street (East), is the Hall of Fame and Boat Display for the team that helps the celebration of the team while building a connection with the public.

The Rock Climbing Wall helps the Athletes train their upper bodies for competition and can also be used by the Public at other times of the day, just like the Indoor Rowing Tank.

The Second Level hosts a Bridge Connection across to the Community Boathouse from the Team Facility.

The Indoor Street Atria in the Team Facilities (West) can be used by the students to hangout, take on-line classes between practices and relax while the public can do the same as well.

The Team Facility houses the Fitness Center at this level. The Community Boathouse hosts an Event Space/ Extended Seating for the Cafe.

SITE DEVELOPMENT - SHORE The Shore of Clinton Lake is designed to maximise ease of access to water. The Illini Cheer Deck and the Boat Launch Deck are organized parallel to the shore to ensure easy boat access and best race views. The Swimming Area is introduced to make a destination for the community while also allowing for varied cardio for the athletes. In Winters, the shallow depth allows water to freeze and makes a destination for Ice Skating. The Illini Beacon serves as a Viewing Deck for the public, and a timing tower for the races.

SITE DEVELOPMENT - CENTRAL PROMENADE The Central Promenade acts as the spine that connects the public to the water and disperses the visitors to the various functions and activities on site.

Toyota Dealership Renovation Project the approved iteration by the client

The Church Extension Project was an exercise in creating a social extension to an old church. The design was expressed using a neo-traditional order and residential details. The concept of a “trinity” is echoed in the design and the material choices reflect a modern take on the church’s materiality and that of the residential context. My Role: I worked on understanding the traditional details in residential construction and deriving a neo-traditional detail inspired by the historic context. I was also helping with the spatial planning and the facade concept.

The Toyota Dealership Renovation Project located near Chicago one that entailed redoing the interior layout and giving proper face-lift to the old structure. My Role: I led the design of iterations of the facade and the interiors using the Toyota Design Standard.

The Triangle District Redevelopment Project was an urban design and real estate development undertaking in collaboration with a highly regarded developer in the US. This project was developed internally by the intern teams at both offices and later presented to the executives at the firms. The project addressed the needs of the existing and the future society, connection of the old and the new infrastructure and attempted to create a destination for the arts.

The Office Park Project was a Million Square Feet project for a Confidential Tech. Client based in Hyderabad, India. The Program has Four Towers of themes of Nature, namely - Earth, Water, Wind and Fire - captured through the use of materials , finishes and design decisions. My Role: I worked on understanding and executing the concepts, finishes layouts and mill work details.
