n behalf of Karting Australia I would like to welcome you to the opening round of the 2016 Australian Kart Championship presented by Jayco and Castrol EDGE here in Dubbo. Following on from the sensational Championship in 2015, this year looks like it is going to be even bigger. With nine Championships up for grabs the racing is set to be some of the best we’ve ever seen in this Country. Knowing that we have 250 entries for this weekend’s opening round is testament to the current direction of karting here in Australia. With every round of this Championship it seems to be that the level of professionalism is continuing to be raised and something that everyone involved with can be very proud of - from the Competitors, to the Teams, Clubs and Officials. There is little doubt that the Championship is the jewel in the crown for Australian karting. I wish all Competitors and Teams the best of luck across the weekend and look forward to seeing the opening Round winners for 2016 enjoying the joys of victory on Sunday afternoon. Queenslander Broc Feeney finished last year on a high with several strong results and is expected to be joined near the front of the field by the likes of Lachlan Hughes, Ryan Suhle, Angelo Mouzouris and 2015 KA4 Junior Champion Jack Doohan. The KA3 class has all drivers using the IAME KA100 engine that should provide some scintillating racing with local Orange driver Brett Robinson expected to be one of the front runners in the class. Former Australian Champion Luke May is also making a return to top-level racing in this class in 2016. Drivers in the TaG 125 class are powered by varying 125cc engines, including the Rotax, IAME X30 and PRD Galaxy powerplants. The difference in power delivery in these engines continually provides racing that is filled with excitement. Reigning National Champion Daniel Rochford will be aiming to kickstart his Championship defence in the X30 class with a victory, however, a healthy field of talented drivers in the class will be out to steal his thunder. Over the past few years the KZ2 class, featuring the six-speed 44 horsepower 125cc engines, has developed into the pinnacle of Australian karting and 2016 will be no different. After snaring the John Pizarro Trophy as the Champion in 2015 Jason Pringle will be back to chase more glory in 2016 but will face tough opposition to claim back-to-back crowns. Former Champion Chris Hays, perennial runner-up Kyle Ensbey, young guns Pierce Lehane and Troy Loeskow along with Jaie Robson, Jason Faint and Troy Woolston are just a few of the drivers expected to figure prominently throughout the year. All in all the scene is set for sensational start to the 2016 Australian Kart Championship here in Dubbo.

The Drivers Championship in all Classes shall be determined Championship counting towards the overall total. Points shall only be awarded to the Drivers classified as finishers in the final results of each race with non-finishers not awarded Championship points. Any race which is stopped, and not restarted, and where less than 50% of the race distance has been completed by the leader shall be deemed a non-race in respect of Championship points and no points shall be awarded. Any race which is stopped, and where 50% or more of the race distance has been completed by the leader, shall be deemed to have finished and full Championship points shall be awarded.
