he Race of Stars is all about the future of motorsport. Some of these young guns here this weekend are the next Whincup, Lowndes and Winterbottom. V8 Supercars is delighted to be involved. Karting is an amazing sport for young kids and one day they will become some of the best known athletes in the country, and hopefully the world. When they graduate some will venture into V8 Supercars, some will grace the world stage and others may make it to the top of open wheel racing with Formula One. Connecting the Race of Stars with the Castrol Gold Coast 600 is fantastic as part of SuperFest. The Castrol Gold Coast 600 is a Gold Coast and Queensland icon, delivering around $40 million of direct impact to the City and the state. V8 Supercars is delighted to again deliver the Gold Coast’s
largest annual event, showing the world the amazing things this famous tourist strip has to offer. This event has had 23 years of amazing history and success. I congratulate all who have been involved, some of them every single year, in the Coasts’ largest annual event of any kind. On the track we will decide the PIRTEK Enduro Cup crowning the most successful driver pairing from the Wilson Security Sandown 500, Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and the Castrol Gold Coast 600. To everyone who has made the trip to the Gold Coast for a weekend and more of celebrations, partying, great music and world class racing I wish you a safe and fun time at one of Australia’s most iconic tourist destinations. he Gold Coast Motorsport Training Centre……the home of Xtreme Karting welcomes competitors from all over the world and Australia as well as spectators to the home of the “Race of Stars” here at Pimpama on Queensland’s beautiful Gold Coast. This being our third year as the host circuit for this fantastic “Race of Stars” as part of SuperFest I know you will enjoy what promises to be a unique and spectacular Karting event. The event in 2014 was an extraordinary success and this year the 2015 competition will build on that solid foundation with a galaxy of karting superstars delivering excitement plus. The “Race of Stars” is fast building a reputation as Australia’s Number 1 International Karting event attracting crowds in excess of 5000 people showcasing International and Australian karting talent. I would like to congratulate Karting Australia as organisers of the event and the V8 Supercars organization for including the “Race of Stars” as a feature of SuperFest in the lead up to the Castrol Gold Coast 600. In addition I would like to thank the Gold Coast City Council for again giving special dispensation for the event to take place. It has not been an easy path to approval however the international reputation this event has built along with the obvious economic benefits to local business on the Gold Coast are hard to ignore. With an increase in competitor numbers
wanting to participate this year along with an anticipated spectator audience approaching 5000 people expected at the circuit this year the value to the Gold Coast destination promotion is without question. This year we will see the largest number of International competitors racing cheered on by their families and support crews who will no doubt enjoy the attractions of the Gold Coast during their stay. Go Karting has an enormous and growing level of support in the community and it is great to see the sport being showcased as part of a program of events that will contribute to the marketing of the sport as well as the Gold Coast as an exciting tourism destination. The Xtreme Karting Circuit here at Pimpama is very proud to be a participant in the SuperFest to showcase karting at its best. Karting Australia has assembled an outstanding list of world class drivers in their respective classes and given our local and Australian champions the opportunity to race the world’s best. It is fantastic to have this world class event at our circuit and it is great to have the fans of Go Karting and the Motorsport community back at our circuit. I am continuing with my vision to build this facility into one that will cater for many forms of entry level motorsport. Once again this year the whole of the track will be utilized to its full potential for the enjoyment of drivers and spectators alike.
O
Facilities such as this are becoming harder to realize as vocal minorities continue to harass local government. Junior training programs are a must to develop the many young people who have an interest in motorsport. The Gold Coast Motorsport Training Centre will in the future be introducing these programs to provide opportunities not only for the youth of the Gold Coast but Nationally as well as the Asia Pacific region. Facilities and training programs effectively delivered at locations such as ours make for a much safer community. Without these type of facilities the young motorsport talent of Australia will find it difficult to explore their full potential having to travel overseas to train and compete. To all drivers and teams good luck with your racing….to the spectators I hope you enjoy this immensely exciting program of competition and the outstanding talent on show. I hope to see you back at the track in one of our karts sometime soon. To our neighbours who support the facility thank you for your support and ongoing assistance it is very much appreciated. Ian Holm Owner – Gold Coast Motorsport Training Centre
On behalf of Karting Australia I would like to welcome everyone to the third annual Race of Stars at the Xtreme Karting facility as a part of SuperFest surrounding the Castrol Gold Coast 600. This event has been designed to showcase the best drivers from not only all across Australia and New Zealand, but also the world, who will be competing on a unique circuit and we welcome everyone who has travelled to event. I hope you all enjoy the Race of Stars as well as some of the great sights that the Gold Coast region has to offer. During the past two years this event has been a real showcase for the sport of karting and generated a significant amount of interest throughout the motorsport community across Australia and also the karting community around the globe, I expect that this year will be no different. To see Australia’s best drivers take on some of the world’s best on a circuit that is one of the fastest in the world is fantastic and I’m really looking forward to seeing who will hold one of the much sought after Winners surfboards up come Saturday afternoon. I would like to thank Ian Holm and his team at Xtreme Karting for their continual support the Race of Stars concept, in addition to the Queensland Government, Gold Coast City Council, V8 Supercars and the many supporters of this fantastic concept. Karting is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, so if you like what you see here today, be sure to visit karting.net.au to find your local club and get on track. 2014 Race Review
PERFECT DAY FOR DAVIDE
Davide Fore on top of the podium at the 2014 Race of Stars
Italian Superstar Davide Forè completed a perfect day at the 2014 Race of Stars, powered by the V8 Superfest on the Gold Coast, being undefeated aboard his CRG. The five-time World Champion had fellow Italian, Lorenzo Camplese right with him for the early part of the final, Camplese firing his CRG into the lead on the third circulation. Forè was all class though, charging through to take a stunning victory - while the battle for second intensified late in the race. Camplese was caught by Kiwi flyer Daniel Bray. Bray was recovering from a DNF in the opening race and had to work his way forward. Camplese took a narrow third position ahead of four-time World Champion Jonathan Thonon. Fifth was Patrizicorse Birel Dutchman, Marijn Kremers. The first of the Australians home was last year’s winner, Gold Coaster, Chris Hays. Hays was ecstatic with his performance to come home in front of David Sera - the 17-time Australian Champion taking the fight right to the superstar Europeans for the heat races, including a stunning pass at 160kph into turn one on Simo Puhakka early in the opening heat. Queenslanders Jason Faint (Gladstone), Kel Treseder (Bundaberg) and Kyle Ensbey (Sunshine Coast) completed the top 10. Forè was pleased with his second visit to Australia. “We’re very happy with the result, Team CRG worked very hard after we blew an engine in practice yesterday, so this is pleasing,” Forè said. “We came to Australia to win and give the people a show, I think we did that.” After qualifying the script couldn’t have been any better with arch-rivals Fore and Thonon on the front row and Aussie flyer Sera third. In the Celebrity race, it was Ford Performance Racing’s Chaz Mostert who followed up on his recent Bathurst 1000 victory to cross the line first for the second weekend running. Mostert fended off Lee Holdsworth for the win in what was an entertaining, and action packed affair.
The elite Junior KF3 category saw Canberra racer, Zane Morse take a comfortable victory. After an incident yesterday that saw him have to repair his Tony Kart chassis, he drove a wheel perfect event taking all three races. American youngster, Juan Manuel Correa came home a fighting second. The Lotus F1 Team Junior Driver battled hard through the heats and then charged forward in the final in a five way battle for second. Gold Coaster Zane Goddard (Tony Kart) delighted the home crowd with his third placed finish, sneaking home in front of Chris Sandrone (Exprit) and Aaron Cameron (Arrow). The TAG category was toughly contested with 54 of Australia’s best battling it out. Queenslander Cian Fothergill got himself back to the top step in national competition by dominating the event. He skipped away from the field to take the win. The battle for second raged literally from the first lap. The elbows were out literally from the first lap and in the end Harrington Doyle Racing Arrow pilot, Jarryd Ebzery took second, whilst ART GP Australia racer Aaron Borg completed the podium. Mitchell Griffin (Exprit) and Mitchell Madden (Birel) completed the podium. In Junior National, Cody Brewczynski led an all New South Wales podium after a terrific race with Queenslander Jack Winter. Winter got crossed up coming onto the front straightaway for the final time and spun, leaving the door open to Scuderia PCR Australia’s Benito Montalbano to come home second and Kyle Bonser home third. Cooper Webster and Bayley Douglas battled intensely for the Cadets victory. The pair came together in the final turn before Douglas crossed the line first - a position that was later awarded to Webster following a post-race stewards hearing. Overall the huge international presence at the Race of Stars, added yet another brilliant chapter to Australian karting history and positioned the event squarely on the international map.

Sera will be competing aboard the kart named by DPE Kart Technology in his honour - The Deadly.
#97 Chris HAYS
Local Gold Coaster Chris Hays was the inaugural winner of the Race of Stars in 2013. Throughout his career, Hays has proved victorious is at both State and National level in Australian karting. He has also finished inside the top ten in a European Championship round. The dual Australian Champion is ultra consistent and finished as Australia’s highest placed finisher in the 2014 event in sixth place behind the European stars.
NUTS AND BOLTS For a significant period of time during the early years of the sport, karts were consider very simply pieces of machinery, they were manufacturered with simple pieces of pipe from the scrap metal yard that were welded together with the main aim of holding together. These days the manufacturing process of a kart has come a long way with technology as teams and competitors chase every thousandth of a second in the pursuit of victory. No less than 310 components now make up a modern day kart
chassis that incoprorates 5.3 linear metres of Chrome Moly Tubing in the chassis. The process to manufacture a modern day kart is a highly technical science that involves CAD designs and a significant amount of testing before each kart hits the market. In Australia, the largest manufacturer of karting equipment is DPE Kart Technology. DPE Kart Technology, formerly named Drew Price Engineering Pty Ltd, was founded by Drew Price in 1973 based in Melbourne. His passion for karting saw him start to manufacture his own chassis which he was very successful with throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Today DPE Kart Technology, under the management of Drew’s son Bart Price, continues to design, manufacture & import quality kart products including all ancillary
components for the karts right down to the tools required to maintain your kart in the workshop. DPE Kart Technology now offers three brands of karts under the individual branding of Arrow, Monaco and Deadly. These brands combined have won over 125 Australian championships since 1973. Throughout the last 40 years of business they have developed a broad product range to provide the karting industry with a one stop megastore catering for all karting needs.
