Poem: Spider Month!

September mornings, still and stunning - garden lawns adorned with dew Clean and crisp, yet colder, as the last of summer passes through Schools return and autumn shows that she is not too far away September brings late sunshine - and ‘things’ that hid until today Concealed corners dark and dusty - from beneath your sofa, bed or chair A scuttling silent shadow swiftly escapes its loitering lair You’re not quite sure you saw it - the merest blinking of an eye But better safe to check again, to see if something speedily scoots by Eight legs that move so briskly, the shape has gone before you know No matter how hard your eyes may search - you can’t tell where it’s gone below You know it’s lurking somewhere - in which direction did it dart, Each movement, noise or just that thought, is no good for the heart! You should always check your bedclothes and routinely shake your shoes Ensure nothing’s on hung dressing gowns, or inside boots you’ve hardly used You’ll spot them contrast clearly though, in shower trays, or sinks or bath But this un-invited visitor will make you scream and yell, not laugh There are folks that just don’t mind them - kind cupped hands that set them free, But, if spiders make you shudder, then you’re very much like me You know that most aren’t dangerous - look at the size of them to you In fairness we should let them be - what real harm can spiders do? So if you’re one of the many people, dreading spider webs in wait You’ll know arachnids have abilities to predict September dates!
