Poem: Wellies

Who doesn’t love a splash in a muddy puddle… Wellies come in different styles There’s ‘Unicorns’ and ‘Frogs’ Faces from ‘Minions’ and ‘Frozen’ ‘Spacemen’, ‘Butterflies’, ‘Dogs’ Wellies come in different colours At varied heights below your knee Some have wedges, some have a heel Thick soles, ridged and rubbery Wellies are so useful They keep feet nice and dry Much easier to put them on Than take them off – you try You stand one legged and wobbly Extend forward wellied foot Kicking and flicking and flipping Shaking and swinging – it still stays put Stood one foot in front of the other You carefully place toe to heel Applying that pressure quite firmly As your front foot, you try to reveal If that doesn’t work, try the back foot And stood with front heel to back toe Ease your back foot gingerly upwards A good wiggle might just help it go But if your wellies are still stuck and not budging You’ll just have to sit down and wait For someone to crouch down and help you Find your feet that you must extricate So you stick out one leg to your helper The welly with both hands they grasp Twisting, turning and pushing and pulling Your foot’s sudden release makes them gasp One’s free, now’s the turn of the other Repeating the same plan once more Always one more stubborn than ‘t’other This time, your help ends up flat on the floor Finally free of your waterproof footwear They can now be rinsed clean of their grime Tidied away, proudly standing together Waiting for your next fun welly time!
