WEEK 3 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) According to Le Corbusier, pictorial space is a notion of real space, it can not be moved. It utilises vanishing points, measurment, portray depth, colours and textures to create a view of perspective. It is viewed from a distance to understand a flat frontal view.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) They are extension and mariage de contour. Le Corbusier belives that this is the only two properties to create depth, he developed a method of representing 3D space and depth with just one flat view. The use of flat shapes and black as casting shadow is also a fundamental method to create space. In simple words, Le Corbusier uses depth and distance to represent space. These properties are pitted against colours, texture and extruction of flat shape which Le Corbusier do not use when creating space.

MARIO’S WORLD

3

1ST MARIO’S WORLD

Combained half

Small hills

Big Mountains

I draw my fisrt half of the world separetly. I didvede it into two parts. First i draw the big mountains, than I draw the small hills.

4

Finally I combaine the two and finish the fisrt half. I think its more organised to draw it this way.

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD

I did the same on the other side. The cylinder mountain actullly helps the viewer to have a better sense of depth.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) Pictoral or perspectival space will distort according to your perspective. Parallel line vanishes from far just like in real life. Pictoral space is a more mono view of a scene. It does not represent a 3D space well. On the other hand, projection is a more accurate way to represent. Shapes does not distort and parallel line do not vanish. It usually projects other views of an object. It is widely used to showcase technical drawings and it is easy to understand the depth with this style of drawing.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words) As human’s culture develops, more complex designs and structures are made, thus a better and more advanced represnetation method must be developed, and Axonometric are one of many others. Axonometric projectiom first arise as an acient visual practise. It is also belived that it is created for “military text” for military purpose. To caculate trajectories of artillery projections. It soon rose as an engineering and architecture industry standard as it provides exact dimensions and measurements.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

I used differnt functions in illustrator to recreate the sence. My world is heavliy packed with patterns

Trace both sides of the world on top of a light box.
