eduardo Chillida exhibition In honor of San Sebastian being home to the 2016 European Capital of Culture, an exhibition to commemorate and celebrate the works of local artist Eduardo Chillida, will temporarily inhabit the coastal tip of San Sebastian, Spain. Chillida’s sculptures, paintings and collages all have a theme that deals with the relationship between solid and void. The design was an investigation of what could happen if one of his sculptures were to be brought to a larger scale and turned into the massing of a building. Then within the building, the galleries imitate Chillida’s use of sculpting the void.

LASTING LEGACY OF SITE After the building has fulfilled its purpose and needs to be disassembled, what is remaining will become a new gathering place at the tip of the western coast. The hard-scape that was designed for the Eduardo Chillida Exhibition will also serve as a plaza and lookout destination to view the city, beaches, mountains and ocean. The wooden louvers of the building will be recycled and will infill the footprint of the building to act as a gathering place for markets, concerts, festivals and other events.

COASTAL GATHERING SPACES Through the use of similar stone pavers and staggered platforms with strong geometries, a new public square was created to pay homage to Eduardo Chillida and his friend, Luis Pena.

Peine del Viento was completed in 1976 and is one of the most visited areas of San Sebastian as a place to view the impressive sculptures by Chillida as well as a place of contemplation. Both of these squares are at the extreme tip of either side of the San Sebastian coast and will create a cohesive bond between the whole coast line.

Summer Market
The city of Providence is currently proposing a temporary farmers market to be implemented into the urban fabric as a food center and Johnson & Whales demonstration kitchen. With a budget of one million dollars and a request for a large marketplace, this design alludes to the simple structural design and construction of the Eames house. Vines will grow over the structure bringing shade and protection as well as providing grapes for wine production. This project is flexible with its ability to add or subtract indoor space and is versatile from season to season as well as at different hours of the day. 1. Structure

This project was completed while studying abroad for a semester in Florence, Italy. The challenge was to make a contemporary building and piazza in a very traditional and historical city. The site is located in Piazza Brunelleschi, which is tucked away in the urban context between the Duomo and Santissima Annuziata. Through adapting traditional architectural elements and the use of materials found in the context, a harmonious building was created for this iconic city.

Roger Williams University porters lodge The design competition for the Porter’s Lodge is an annual Arch 313 event that occurs over one weekend. The building is located at the North entrance of the Roger Williams University campus and serves as a welcome gate and the campus safety headquarters. This design received first place out of a class of approximately 75 students. The building has a wrapping motion that represents the vehicular circulation through campus. The idea of wrapping also defines the program within:

copley place tower elkus manfredi architects
During the summer of 2014, I assisted a team of architects working on the Copley Place Tower during the design development phase. Copley Place is currently the location of Neiman Marcus and other high-end retail stores. This project by Elkus Manfredi has three phases; a renovation to the office levels, an expansion to the mall, and a 47-story residential tower. I primarily focused on the exterior of the building by creating details for the curtain wall system, as well as taking responsibility for the construction documents for a renovation of the existing office building at Copley Place.

matrix of elastegrities
This special topics course provided an outline of factors contributing to the creation of visual form. It was an exploration of the architecture of form with tactile experimentations using a range of materials, mostly paper. This investigation led to a matrix of elastegrities which can expand and compress into itself. Elastegrities are structures comprising a network of rigid and elastic members characterized by form resilience, and in this they resemble tensegrities (internal elastic forces maintain the shape’s integrity, thus the name “elastegrity�). The process begins with laser cutting a stiff paper to create the necessary cuts and scores. After folding the six individual pieces, they can be intertwined (in this case, yellow over blue, blue over green, green over yellow) to create one elastegrity. After assembling nearly 100 elastegrities, a series of trial and error led us to a combination that could compress when force is put on it. This discovery has the potential to keep growing in all directions.

Intern, Burlington, Vermont Responsibilities included modeling in Revit, assisting on projects in both the design and construction document phases, creating sites in both Revit and Google Sketchup, and completing a set of As-Built drawings. Float chair and designer Bristol, Rhode Island is home of the oldest annual 4th of July parade in American history. This event draws over 200,000 people from Rhode Island and around the world. I led a team of 45 students in the design and construction of this elaborate and large float. [April- July 2012]
