Manchester Communication Academy Subject: GCSE Physical Education Exam Board: Edexcel Written Exam: 40% of overall mark How long? 1 hour 30 minutes Which units will be tested ? 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.2.4, 1.2.5 How exam is usually presented? A mixture of multiple choice (1 mark), short answer (2-4 marks) and extended answer (6 mark) questions. Marks Available: 80 Practical Exam: 60% of overall grade? What is assessed? Students are assessed in their 4 strongest practical activities and also complete an analysis of performance (AOP) for one of their chosen activities. Students design and complete a personal exercise programme as part of their AOP. Students can also be assessed as a coach or official as one of their 4 activities but must also select to perform in this activity. How many marks available? Each of their practical activities are marked out of 10. Their AOP is also marked out of ten. This score (out of 50) then undergoes a weighting conversion so that it accounts for 60% of students’ overall mark. When will this be complete? The practical assessment is completed in March. Any other information you feel may be relevant… The practical assessment is usually early to mid-March; the exam is usually mid to late May. It is strongly recommended that students participate in after school/community clubs to maximise their score in the practical assessment Our Support Package Support offered in lessons: Exam question practice and WAGOLLs Intensive practical sessions (twice a week) from January to March Intensive theory sessions (twice a week) from March to May The Workshop: Revision sessions co-ordinated with the revision schedule and applied examination sessions. Students are directed to after school sessions in their chosen practical activities What students should be doing at home? 1. Making revision cards covering the key points of each topic will act as good prompts and revision tools 2. There are a large number of key words and phrases in GCSE PE so creating acronyms or mnemonics to help remember is a useful aid 3. Study past exam papers and mark schemes 4.
