Letter to parents response to parents evening

Page 1

Dear parents, At parents’ evening, I received a request for educational apps or games for use on the iPad. Here is a list of apps for maths and spelling that your child may find enjoyable. They are all free and downloadable from the iTunes store: •

Math Puppy

Math with Balloons

Math Soccer

Reading Eggs

Phonics Genius

I also received a request for what topics we will be learning about this half-term, so that parents can help at home. Here is a brief list of what we will be covering this term: Maths – recognising number patterns; recognising fractions (halves and quarters), doubling and halving; recognising, describing and sorting 2-d shapes; addition and subtraction. Literacy – poetry; traditional tales and fables; identifying adjectives; writing compound sentences; using commas, exclamation marks and question marks; using capital letters and full stops consistently; spelling high frequency words correctly. I have included a list of Key Stage 1 high frequency words with this letter so that you can practice them at home. For the foundation subjects, our topic is ‘Oceans and Seas’ and we will be exploring this through art, geography, history and music. Any reading or research you can do with your child around this subject would be very helpful. If you have any questions about the Year 2 curriculum, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Kind regards, Miss Bowen
