Academy
An academy is a publicly funded school that receive their money right from the government, instead from a local authorities. Our school is sponsored by BT and our academy is different from others because we respect our academy values. The academy principal is Mrs Heath and she is in charge of the whole school. We start at 8.30 in the morning and finish at 3:00,but we finish at 12:30 on Fridays, that is why we have ESA clubs. There are lots of clubs to choose from, there is football, table-tennis, judo, badminton. We have a study support session that we have to do or we get a study plus and so we make up the hours that remains from Friday because we close early. Our academy has a huge community, in our academy we are all diverse in each way, but we are all still one big community, we have a majority of students from different cultures and countries from, our academy is slightly different from other academies because we respect our teachers and do what we are asked to do. Our academy is quite competitive we have something called house time, there are Marconi, Shakespeare, Copper, Turing and Olympics, and each week we try our best to get a reward called blast points an then we post it at students service and on Fridays at house time they get counted for each house because every student is put in a house so if you get a blast points it is for your house, so we see which house has the most and the winner house gets a prize. Our academy is really fun because you will be opened to a whole lot of different things.

Blast Points
You get blast points for being good and geing good efort in your work and give it your best and you help other people. When teacher give you blast points they give you a postcard, you put part of it in the post bo at student services and take the other part home. On Friday you get a prize depending on how many you have received. When you get to Year 11 blast points change to prom points and you need to reach a points target to go to the leaver’s prom. I think blast points are a good idea because they are a reward if you are good. You can get blast points for doing things like working hard, being respecful, helping others, both staf and other students, and producing brilliant work. When I get blast points I feel happy e cited and valued. The help you to be more moivated and beter behaved in class. I put in more efort because of BLAST POINTS!

Community
Community is very important in our academy. A community is social unit of any size that shares common values and community Is also be used to describe a group of people who have something in common, for example they come from the same place, or the all support a cause. Mr. Robert says “The community to describe the people who live somewhere and how they connect with each other and feel about where they live”. the community department listen to people who live in the community where are school is based and we put on lot and lot of positive activities of people .for example, we are open 7 days a week after school until 10:00 and on a Saturday and Sunday from 9:00-5:00. We have sports clubs, leisure activities and learning opportunities all week long. We also run projects like the “urban crew” in a local primary school and we have a history group for older people talk about their memories of growing up the group in thy is community. We also run a school holiday programme every school holiday. About 200 young people come to it every time. Lots of schools do have community departments but ours is one of the biggest In Manchester at least. We have 1,500 people coming to our community activities every week.

Diversity
Diversity is All Different All Equal. Diversity is lots of people that have different religion, skin, disability, finger prints. Differences a good thing not a bad thing. Our students speak lots of languages at home they don’t only speak English. It is great to embrace our differences. If you are a footballer and play for team everybody is equal but all different but they all still work as a team. Good players play fare with not good players and they don’t get angry at them. In schools every body works as a team all the teachers have meetings and teaching students as a team. They all have different skin, religion etc. Students in schools have to work together, in lessons they have to do pair works and teamwork with people they don’t know. Diversity is good because you work with different people that are taller and smaller than you and different ages that you get to work with. You get to know people that you have never met before. There are different languages in our school like Urdu, Punjabi, German, French and Spanish. In this school I speak Punjabi and Urdu. It is good to have people who speak different languages in our school and we learn these languages and when we go to these places we can speak that language.

ESA
ESA , means Extra School Activities. In ESA we can do lots of different clubs. The clubs are only on Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday , Thursday. There is a variety of clubs for each of the years. In Scientific and Technical you can do STEM club. In STEM club you do experiments In Health and Wellbeing you can do Bombay bad-boys which is a cooking club. Health and Wellbeing also do sport activities onsite and off-site such as: swimming, football, basketball, table tennis, rounder's and many more You can also attend catch ups if you are behind on your work, this counts as a club. Clubs are a great asset to the school its an opportunity to learn and have fun with friends whilst improving skills.

Fridays
Friday’s at MCA are slightly different from other secondary schools :the reason for this is students leave school on Friday’s at 12:30pm . Because children have to be in school for roughly 30 hours a week, MCA students have to take part in two clubs after school during the week to make up the time. These clubs are called ESA clubs. ESA stands for Extra School Activities. Since students finish at 12:30pm they don’t do regular lessons ; instead they do things like specialisms (fun activities), communication curriculum( what learning style are you?) and house time (a house meeting). House time is a meeting with your form that takes place on a Friday. As well as the length of the day being different, the school meals are also special .The kitchen staff prepare a special meal of fish and chips! However, not everybody gets to go home at 12:30pm . If you’ve been late ,missed your ESA club or been naughty in one of your classes you have to stay behind for a study plus (this is what our school calls detention). Study pluses last between 1-2 hours. Jessica Calvert ,year 7 student , quotes ‘I love Fridays ! We get to start our weekend at 12:30pm and get to go home while everyone else is in school.’

GCSE
GCSE stands for the general certificate of secondary education.by taking your GCSEs you will have a better chance of getting a job that you want and enjoy.by doing well in our GCSE we give ourselves more choices in the future. GCSE is an academic qualification awarded in a specified subject, in other words it’s pretty much a test.it was introduced in 1988.replacing the o level and CSE students now had to complete coursework in their two years of study. They are usually taken at the age of sixteen though some people take them earlier. The GCSE written exam gets marked by the exam board and along with coursework gives them a final examination grade. These grades determined whether you are likely to get a proper job or not. To succeed in your GCSE you need to listen and work hard putting in 100% commitment. When taking GCSEs people get scared and worry because they don’t know if they will pass them or not. They could also worry about it so much that they pass out! If you pass your GCSEs and get a job, it will be easier to get a good place to live and be able to pay the bills and the rent.

House Time
In our school (M.C.A.) instead of having form time every day, for the last hour of every Friday we something called house time. House time is when everyone in the same progress group comes together and together and reflects on what we’ve done that week .we also have something called head, heart, bin, bag. This requires our thinking skills. Head means something that required our thinking skills that week .Heart, means something that required us to be brave .Bin, and means something we didn’t find interesting that week and bag means something we can take home to show/ tell our parents. We also have a task called `news of the week`. It is a sort of quiz where we have to guess what is going on in the news.

Independent
In our Academy we learn in many different ways. Sometimes we work independently Independent means that you are working on your own, researching and investigating. We then help each other by saying, what went well (www) and even better if (EBI).This helps us to improve our work. Working independently helps us develop the skills that we need for working when we leave school. In our school we use laptops, realsmart and lots of other technology to help us to work independently. Sometimes it is hard to work independently then we can choose to work as a team.
I really like working independently because it prepares me for the real world.

Jobs
You need a job because you need to earn money to pay bills and buy things for you and your children. You need to work hard in school and concentrate in your G.C.S.E’s. By working hard we give ourselves more options when we leave school, we can choose to study further or apply to be an apprentice or go straight to a job. You need to work for many years and it is much better to do a job that you enjoy, by working hard we give ourselves that option. There are many different types of jobs; those that help you care for people or animals such as vet, doctor, fireman, teacher or policeman. There are also jobs that give services to other people such as shopkeeper or care assistant. When you have a job you have to work really hard and be reliable to keep your job and to progress further. You need a jobs because you need a good education life and have some money.

Knowledge
Knowledge is something you need in exams Knowledge is all the facts and information you have stored in your brain. Everyday at school you will increase your knowledge by taking part in your lessons. We gain knowledge about our subjects but also the academy teaches us knowledge about other things in the world. You will need a lot of knowledge when it comes to passing your GCSEs. Knowledge is important but you also need skills as well. We learn skills in all of our subjects. For example in P.E. we learn about teamwork and leadership. In Science we learn about problem solving. We also look at a lot of skills during the communication curriculum on Friday Mornings.

Lates
We have to be in school by 8.25am Because our lessons start at 8.30am and we need to be ready to start learning. If you are consistently late then you must stay behind on Friday for one hour to make up the time we have missed. The rest of our Academy leaves at 12.30pm on Friday so it is best not to be late! Being late can impact on our personal learning and also the learning of others, by causing disruption when we enter the classroom. It also means we have less time to learn. My advice is not to be late, put your learning first.

Marconi
At MCA our houses are named after special people or things . We have five houses: Olympic - named after the Olympics Cooper - named after a person who helped to create the first mobile phone Turing –named after a British mathematician and creator of the first computer Shakespeare-named after William Shakespeare And finally Marconi. Marconi house is named after Guglielmo Marconi. Guglielmo Marconi was an Italian man, who lived from the 25 April 1874-20 July 1937.Marconi was an inventor and electrical engineer , famous for his work on long distance radio transmission and radio telegraph system. Most of the time he is said to be the inventor of the radio, as he shared the 1909 Noble Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun (a British business man and founder from 1897).Marconi successfully created the radio by building on the work of his previous experiments. Without Marconi’s pioneering discoveries the world today would be a totally different place. We wouldn’t have Internet , phones or home entertainment. This man’s work has changed the world for better ,all his time ,hard work and effort has paid off! I like being In Marconi ,IT’S THE BEST HOUSE!!!

You as an individual is very important in MCA and especially in Marconi. Everyone is not the same, we understand every person is different and we love individuality. “You” in Marconi means expressing yourself, being an individual student. Marconi focuses on you, it is personal to you. Marconi is “with you…for you… about you” The school focuses on YOU.

is for 100 Zero One is a system we have when a student has zero SIMs for that week and 100% attendance. Sims is a behaviour management system. These students are rewarded by having their name shown on the Friday House Time Power point for everyone to see!!! 100 Zero One is divided into house groups such as M1, M2, M3, M4, M5. This allows competition between your form groups in Marconi! ALSO everyone who has 100 zero one for that week will be put in a house prize draw and if your name is picked out of the hat, you will win a voucher to spend on!!! SO MAKE SURE YOU BEHAVE AND COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY TO BE PART OF THIS REWARD!!
