Spring Term- The secret garden

What are we doing this autumn half term in the EYFS?

Who Am I? Prime Areas of Development- A selection of this terms activities. Personal, Social, Emotional – This term we will play name games to familiarise each other with new class members. Play games such as “hide and seek” with classroom objects to familiarise the children with the classroom. Learn the new daily routine and become familiarised with the Early Years environment. Review positive class rules together and make up classroom signs to emphasise them. Establish role play rules and manners and set a class protocol.

Communication and Language Development- We will develop our role play area into a home and make labels and signs for it .We will make up imaginative stories about autumn animals. Listen to a range of stories and discuss them. Retell the stories using props/small world toys/puppets. We will write “guess what” cards to describe different body parts and autumn objects. Retell “Happy & you know it” in our own words. Contribute to big class information book about autumn.

Understanding the World- The children shall start to explore and investigate our EYFS environment, recording their findings in a variety of ways. They shall be introduced to algorithms and sequencing and learn the importance of becoming independent thinkers! They shall have the freedom to use IT devices to support their learning and shall be shown how to handle them correctly.

Expressive Arts- Start to choose a variety of instruments and sounds that can represent different emotions. Make class rules about how to keep our creative area tidy, clean and accessible at all times.
