2010–2011 GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
Guest Company-in-Residence Georgian Court University hosts Group Motion Multimedia Dance Company, one of Philadelphia’s pioneer dance organizations, which will present a site-specific performance on the GCU campus. Group Motion’s Park Spaces, which has been adapted for the GCU campus, is based on their acclaimed City Dances/Parkway performance that took place along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. City Dances/ Parkway, funded and presented by PNC Bank Arts Alive in the spring of 2010, inspired the new Park Spaces, which incorporates Georgian Court’s historic Casino, Italian Gardens, Sunken Garden, and Formal Garden. Eight dancers, with iPods and speakers attached to their bodies, will lead the audience through the gardens and across campus. Park Dances was created by Silvana Cardell, John Luna, and Manfred Fischbeck, and original music for the piece was written by Andrea Clearfield, Tim Motzer, and Phil Kline. of individuals with disabilities. Diagnosis of a Faun was performed during the June 2010 International VSA Arts Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and is being presented this year at Middlebury College in Vermont and at Georgian Court University. In Diagnosis of a Faun, Tamar Rogoff’s faun steps out of his mythical world to interface with the world of medicine. As the faun moves through the seemingly disparate spheres of the operating room and the forest in the company of dancers, doctors, humans and nymphs, the curse of separation between medicine and art is gently lifted.
