DPLUSBOWIE; The Jean Genie. Launching Summer 2014 is the latest collaborative campaign, courtesy of Diesel®. Rock legend David Bowie, and denim lifestyle brand Diesel® have come together to produce strikingly crafted denim garments, inspired by the icon that is Ziggy Stardust. Sourcing innovative inspiration from costume, music and 70’s style, the DPLUSBOWIE collections are an initial reflection of Ziggy Stardust and 21st century fashion; a contemporary 70’s reaction. 2 Collections. 1 Jean Genie. Key shapes have been considered, sculpted and constructed in a diminutive array of denim hues, rendered through hand-drawn sketches and fashion illustrations.
David Bowie (born David Robert Jones on 8th January 1947 in Brixton, London, UK) is a British singer, songwriter, producer, musician, and actor. Active in six decades Bowie frequently and successfully reinvents his music and image, he is widely regarded as a visionary, predominantly for his work in the 1970s.
A famous multi-instrumentalist, he is renowned for playing the guitar, piano, and saxophone, also playing the harmonica, drums, cello, marimba, bass guitar, koto, and stylophone. 140 million of Bowies albums have been sold worldwide, with help from his three most iconic stage characters; Ziggy, Aladdin Sane and The Thin White Duke – he is one of the most influential men in fashion.
Bowies androgynous alter ago Ziggy Stardust is one of the many personalities that Bowie would transform into during his performances. Boasting Glam Rock in the early 70’s, Ziggy was continuously and popularly flamboyant when it came to costume and makeup, often sporting a red mullet and make-up consisting of a large gold circle drawn on his forehead. The transition from Ziggy to Aladdin Sane, (a quirky play on words for “A Lad Insane”), came in the form of make-up on Bowie’s next album cover in 1973, portraying a lightning bolt over the right-hand side of his face. One of the most iconic looks of the past century, and one that has anchored the DPLUSBOWIE campaign. The Thin White Duke, the latter of the three personas, appeared when Bowie’s musical style evolved and took on a more funk and soul approach around 1976. Bowie has shifted his musical style countless times across the decades to help reflect his everchanging persona, and with each musical transition – another timeless look is born. He pulls off strikingly influential fashion with such ease initializing key trends, powerful shape and print, all of which still have an impact to this day.

Steel bars, scaffolding and beams are left uncovered, and plush burgundy leather corner seating areas provide guests with superlative viewing space for the Bowie music videos projected across all expanses of the venue. In the centre of the space is a raised circular stage, with identical mirrored tiles encasing the circumference. Here is where the static exhibition is to be held subsequent to the catwalk show.
