Letter from Your Lieutenant Governor Hiiii ya Division 25W, School’s back and that means recruitment season! Be sure to spread the word about key club and encourage potential members and friends to come to club meetings and socials! Bring the underclassmen! More members mean more fun and more service! We are exactly two week away from our Regional Training Conference and meeting other Key Clubbers in our region. I’m so excited to see all of you! I expect to have a good turnout so make sure you put the date on your calendar! The YOF grants are now open and this is a great opportunity to fund your dream service projects or provide a little boost to your club’s favourite projects so I encourage you to apply for YOF! The District Staff is aware that for a large number of clubs reporting, newsletters, and articles are not a top priority after the horrendous hurricane that has hit our district. Due to Hurricane Harvey, the district has decided to accept reports as well as newsletters and articles as on time up until September 15. I would also like to encourage your clubs to donate/fundraise for Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Projects! Caring is our way of life and Key Clubs have been asking for support to help those students and their communities. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns or suggestions. I would love to hear from you! Kathryn Aung :) Volume 1 | Issue 5 | Region 3 | Division 25W | Texas-Oklahoma District

Youth Opportunities Fund The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world. The basics you need to know: ● ●

● ● ●

YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members. There is one funding cycle for YOF grants per year. Applications are accepted from summer through fall and must be received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST. Applications are reviewed by the Key Club International YOF committee at their November meeting. Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. Applicants must use Reviewr, the YOF online grant application. Previous years' applications and printed paper applications mailed to Key Club International will not be accepted. Guidelines for submitting a YOF application is listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies. Grant notification is emailed to all grant applicants the second week of January. Information noting which clubs received and did not receive grant funding is posted online the third week of January.

District Governor’s Bio Hey 25W! I’m Sabrina Palma and I’m excited to say that I’m your new District Governor for the remainder of the Key Club year! I’m an upcoming senior at Garland High School. Outside of Key Club you can find me at boba shops, natatoriums, and debate rooms. I hope to be able to visit y'all before DCON and not cry too much about college applications. I will be working with you and your president to make sure your club will be the best they can be. The Governor’s Project this year is focused on helping children and adults with disabilities. This ranges from working with Wounded Warriors Project to volunteering at your local Special Olympics. Every month will be dedicated to a different non-profit organization. For example, November will be dedicated to epilepsy awareness and October will be dedicated to adults and children with Down’s Syndrome. This year’s project allows you to be creative and more hands on, so I hope you and your club takes advantage by participating in the Governor’s Project this year! As the summer is coming to an end, the opportunity to trap freshman into joining Key Club is just around the corner. Now’s your chance to prepare to increase your club membership and start the school year right with Key Club. Ways to increase your membership is volunteering for your school’s freshman orientation and hosting Key Club socials for the incoming freshman. You can find more advertisements and strategies to increase membership through Kathryn or the district website at tokeyclub.com. Thank you for all that you’ve done and feel free to contact me with the information found below! Yours in Service, Sabrina Palma E: governor@tokeyclub.com C: (972) 762-1021

District Treasurer’s Bio Hello Division 25 West! My name is Foster Hillis, your new District Treasurer! I am very excited to serve each and every one of you in the Mighty Texas-Oklahoma District. I am here not only to help Club Treasurers, but all officers and members succeed. I hope you will use me as a resource for help and if you need me at any time you can contact me through email, my Remind 101, or even Instagram, whichever is easiest for you. If I’m not at Whataburger or competitively swimming, I’m usually at a service project helping our District’s Project; Homelessness. I am currently a Junior at Lawton High School (Division 18), where I am a Yearbook Editor, Student Council Assemblies Director, and in many other organizations. I love sailing on ships, wearing hats backwards of course), and most importantly memes! Over the past couple of months, I have been grateful to work alongside Kathryn. If you have any questions about our Bylaws, ask her—she knows everything! This year, I will focus on helping all of you apply for the YOF Grant (Youth Opportunities Fund) and start inter-club scholarship programs. These both will provide you as members and your club overall benefits in the short and long term. Finally, I will be hosting Skype Webinars for Treasurers, Officers, and members. This month, we will focus on Fundraising and it will start at 4:00 PM on August 9 th (Wednesday). During this, I will give hints on how to plan for fundraisers and talk about some that have worked for my club. So bring your best fundraising ideas to share. If you would like to join in this webinar or any of them in the future, please email me with your skype, name, and division so I can add you. If you have any questions about anything under the sun, you can of course contact me! Breakthrough This past January, Key Club International launched a pilot leadership program named Breakthrough. The one week program held in Tampa, Florida last summer, provided Key Clubbers with a life-changing experience. Members were given the opportunity to learn new cultures, interact with members across the U.S, and of course, serve the local homes, schools and communities. This new experience is open to all members of Key Club International, and I highly encourage you to apply. You do not want to miss out on this incredible opportunity to discover your leadership potential. For more information and a recap video, click here. ●

The application opens September 11, 2017 and closes on October 15, 2017. The date for Breakthrough is Jan 1-7, 2018. No registration fees are required.
