letter From Your ltg! Hi ya Division 25W! Earlier this month, I attended the Kiwanis District Convention at Abilene, Texas with a group of Lt.Gs and club presidents. It was a wonderful experience from meeting with Kiwanians from all over the District and presenting forums about ways to support key clubs to volunteering for the disaster relief service project and riding with Sonya all the way down to Tulsa. I’m so glad to be reunited with past Lt.G friends Thomas and Rheannon but the highlight of my experience was screaming for my life when I was forced to watch IT at the hotel. Check out pages 12 and 13 for some recap pictures. Get hype everyone!!! We’ll be having the first annual Fall Rally at Frontier City on September 29th. The registration is $25 and that cover admission to Frontier City and a t shirt! Currently, the only ones who have registered for Fall Rally are District Board members so please sign up to go. We will have a Divisional Council Meeting at Fall Rally and your club will receive points on the monthly report for both events. Since school is in full swing, make sure your club is getting taking

advance of the recruitment reason. Our membership goal is 20,000 members for the 3rd time so let’s hit the goal this year!! Bring them to socials and meetings and spread the joy of service! On that same note, your club should’ve been active in August so don’t forget to turn in monthly reports! Also check out pages 14 and 15 for the Eliminate Project Summer Update. We’ve made great strides to eliminate neonatal tetanus and it’s worth reading to know that our efforts are bearing fruits. We are down to 14 countries to eliminate this deadly infection! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns or suggestions. I would love to hear from you! Youth Opportunities Fund The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world. ●

YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members.

There is one funding cycle for YOF grants per year. Applications are accepted from summer through fall and must be received by October 15 at 11:59 PM EST. Applications are reviewed by the Key Club International YOF committee at their November meeting.

Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project.

Applicants must use Reviewr, the YOF online grant application. Previous years' applications and printed paper applications mailed to Key Club International will not be accepted.

Guidelines for submitting a YOF application is listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies.

Grant notification is emailed to all grant applicants the second week of January.

Information noting which clubs received and did not receive grant funding is posted online the third week of January. Volume 2 | Issue 5 | Region 3 | Division 25W | Texas-Oklahoma District

The Eliminate Project: Summer Update A lot has happened with The Eliminate Project this summer. Here are the top three developments you might have missed – plus the latest information about Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. 1. Kenya is MNT-free! ○ In June, Kenya officially was validated for eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. This means that mothers in Kenya no longer have to worry about their babies dying of this terrible disease. ○ Hear Rose Njiraini, UNICEF community health specialist in Kenya, describe the value of Kiwanis’ work against MNT. 2. #MNTChallenge raised US$500,000 ○ During the 103rd Kiwanis International Convention, Kiwanis members from around the world came together to support The Eliminate Project. Generous donors put forth $100,000 to challenge Kiwanians to also raise $100,000 during convention. After surpassing our first goal, we unlocked an additional $100,000 from our generous donors, and Kiwanians came through with even more. ○ The grand total raised was $502,282.72 to protect mothers and babies worldwide against maternal and neonatal tetanus. 3. Update from Sudan ○ In Sudan, MNT continues to put the lives of mothers and babies at risk. Luckily, midwives like Hawa Mohamed Ibrahim are there to help expecting moms get the quality health care they need – including the tetanus vaccine.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has a new webpage! ● Now that summer is over, it’s time for your favorite fall fundraiser: ● Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. This Halloween, your club members have the power to save lives. There are many fun and creative ways to raise money, including going door-to-door, zombie walks, pumpkin smashes, Halloween dances, haunted houses and so much more. ● Once again, money raised through this program by Key Club members will support The Eliminate Project. Your donations will help protect women and newborns from maternal and neonatal tetanus. Together, we can end these preventable tragedies.
