letter From Your ltg! Hello Division 25W! July is a busy month for Key Club events. At International Convention, our Immediate Past District Treasurer Foster Hillis was elected to serve as International Trustee! Our very own trustee is Leslie Truong from the Carolinas District. Our Summer Board meeting last weekend was also a success. We voted multiple changes and discussed ways to improve our District and enhance the Key Club experience. We also voted on a District Convention theme but you’ll have to wait a while until the theme reveal to find out! I really want to stress the importance of submitting monthly reports. Even if your club doesn’t have much to report, please turn in a blank report at the very least. Turning in monthly reports let the District know that your club is still active and fulfills District requirements to be a club in good standing per District Bylaws. Just submitting your club name, president, advisor, and secretary email address with our region (3) and division (25W) number is a good start. Also keep in mind that the maximum number of articles that clubs can submit is 5 articles starting August! One of the things we voted on is the District Project. Keep T-O Beautiful is aimed towards maintaining the beauty of our environment and improving how we treat our community. This would advocate for the recycling of materials hazardous to the environment, raise awareness for specific environmental issues such as the protection of endangered species, and improve the look of our communities by introducing new clean up initiatives. And finally, an update on Fally Rally! Make sure to make your calendars on September 29th. The registration is $25 and that includes admission to Frontier City and a t shirt! I’ll have more updates next week but you can advertise Fally Rally to get potential members interested in Key Club. This week, I will be traveling to Abilene, Texas for Kiwanis District Convention and I’m excited to collaborate with our sponsoring adult organization. On that note, please have a few officers from your club attend the Tulsa Kiwanis Luncheon on Monday, August 6th at 12 PM @ First United Methodist Church and make sure you put that on your monthly report to get points! Get a Jumpstart on Recruitment Start mapping out your recruitment plan: If students are unaware of Key Club, how will they know to join? How are you going to seek out new members? What events can you attend to make sure students see your club in action? Start brainstorming opportunities for your club to get exposure. Plan a Meet & Greet: Find out the date of your school’s open house. Plan to set up a booth so that you can talk to potential new members or interested parents. Test drive Key Club: At the beginning of the year, host an introductory service project. Choose one that is hands-on and allows interaction among participants. Use flyers, posters and social media to invite current and potential members. This will allow your members to get to know interested students on a more personal level. Ask guests for their names and contact information and reach out to them before your first official meeting! Be social: Being seen is incredibly important. Social media is key. Your club must have a voice in order to be heard. Take advantage of your club’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts to let students know about upcoming meetings and projects. Encourage your members to retweet posts so their followers will want to join the fun. Submit announcements to the head of your school’s social media accounts. The more publicity the better.
