letter From Your ltg! Hello everyone! Congratulations! You’ve made it through the school year and it’s finally summer!! I’m so relieved after all the AP Exams and finals! Junior year has been fun and stressful and I’m ready to sleep in everyday and clean my room. Seniors, once you go off to college, definitely consider joining Circle K or if you college doesn’t have one, you can start one yourself! Check out page 12 for more information. Just because it is summer doesn’t mean you can take a break from service. In fact, summer is the best time for volunteering so make sure you give something back to your community! I’ve received a few reports and I want to encourage secretaries to keep sending in monthly reports. I know it is the summer and there’s not a lot going on but key club is a year round commitment. Mark your calendar! We will be having a Fall Rally in September 29th and it’s going to be so much fun! I’ll keep everyone updated as the time comes closer so be on the lookout for more information. Make good use of the summer and give yourself some time; you deserve it! I’m going to leave it off here to keep it short and sweet! Thank you so much for all you do and have an amazing summer! Yours in Caring and Service, Kathryn Aung

A Few Final Thoughts Welcome to the end of the school year! Seniors, hang in there — you’re almost to the finish line. As you prepare for graduation, think about joining a Circle K or Kiwanis club. Continuing your Kiwanis family journey is a great opportunity to carry the love and passion you have for service throughout your life. As long as we have caring and competent leaders like you, the world will keep getting better. Your Key Club experience doesn’t have to take place only during the school year! Join us for the 75th Key Club International Convention in Chicago, Illinois. Meet Key Clubbers from around the world, learn how to be a better leader and help elect your new governing board. It’s the biggest Key Club event of the year, so you don’t want to miss it! Summer means service. That’s right! Use the skills you’ve acquired over the school year to better your community during your time away. Mow your elderly neighbor’s grass or host a car wash with your fellow club members for The Eliminate Project. Make the most out of your summer break and give back. Before you rush off, here are a few words from Key Club International President William Sims: Hello Key Clubbers! I cannot believe that in a little over a month I will be giving my farewell as international president. This year has been filled with many late nights, stressful moments and hard work, but as I reflect on my year, that is not what comes to mind. What I see when I think about my term is the people: the amazing people that I get to work with on the Key Club International Board, the adults who guide us at Kiwanis International, the members all over the world making an impact on their communities, all of the wonderful people that I have met on my travels. A Few Final Thoughts I could go on and on about how this job has made an impact on who I am as a person, but the biggest impact has been left on me by all of you. The lessons that I have learned, the stories that I have heard and the memories that I have made are what I will take with me for the rest of my life. Key Club International is such a great organization, and what makes it so great is all of you. My advice to you, whatever role you hold in this organization, is to get to know the people around you, because Key Club is filled with some of the greatest people that you will ever meet. Key Club International, thank you for allowing me to serve you as your international president! We really can’t say it enough. Thank you for all that you do. Change does not happen overnight, and each positive step we take is a step toward a better tomorrow. That better tomorrow is happening because of dedicated individuals like you. Never stop striving to be better. Thank you for choosing to be a member of our family. See you in September!

11 Things to do this Summer The sad truth is that August will be here before we know it, and we’ll be getting ready for a new school year to start. Make the most of your summer by writing down a list of things you want to do. Here are a few ideas to help you start your summer bucket list. 1.

See a drive-in movie. Drive-in movie theaters are slowly disappearing from our towns, so now’s the time to enjoy them. Don’t have one near you? Hang a large white sheet in your backyard and display your favorite movie via a projector.

2.

Go to a theme park. Whether you get your thrill on at an adventure park with roller coasters and giant water slides or you keep it chill with a round of miniature golf with your friends, seek out some excitement this summer.

3.

Try a new drink at Starbucks. Did you know that if you order one of Starbucks’ Strawberry & Creme Frappuccinos and add toffee nut syrup, it tastes just like Captain Crunch cereal? Search online for lists of secret Starbucks drinks that aren’t on the menu and start crossing items off the list.

4.

Fly a kite with friends. Is there an open field of grass near your house? Start a kite-flying society with your friends. You’ll finally have a good excuse to buy a cool or extravagant kite.

5.

Build a sandcastle. You might not live on or near a beach, but there’s a good chance you can find some sand somewhere. Make a castle or sculpt something out of the ordinary. (Life-size Yoda, anyone?)

11 Things to do this Summer 6.

Jam at a concert. A summer without concerts almost doesn’t even count as a real summer. Save up your money and support your favorite bands if they’re touring near you. Or check out the music festival scene in your town.

7.

Visit the state fair. Another staple of summer is the state fair. If it’s too far away from where you live, county fairs can be just as much fun (and possibly a little less crowded).

8.

Go camping. Even if it’s just camping in your backyard, there’s no better way to enjoy the warm weather and calmness of summer than lying outside under the stars. Live in the city? See if you can plan a weekend getaway with your family.

9.

Grow something fresh. Whether you live in the country or in a high-rise city apartment, you can grow something, such as fresh herbs or small flowers.

10.

Watch a baseball game. For some people, baseball is a tradition. Enjoy sitting in the sunshine with your friends or family, even if it might mean paying too much for a hot dog and small soda.

11.

Start a water balloon fight. Even though the prep time it takes significantly exceeds the time of the actual fight, it’s usually worth it. Not into throwing water balloons? Invite some friends to a day at the pool.
