Monday Show your K! Show people what Key Club is all about! Spread the word by wearing Key Club gear and publicizing Key Club Week in local stores, your school Web site, community newspapers—even on the radio.

Tuesday Kudos to the key players! Personally thank all the Key Club supporters you know—teachers, advisors and other Key players. Write thank-you notes, host an appreciation dinner or do something uniquely your own style to recognize the contributions of these special people.

Wednesday Dare to Care! Key Club has three preferred charities—UNICEF, March of Dimes and Children’s Miracle Network. Take time to focus on service projects that help support these causes such as making non-slip socks or capes for your local CMN hospital. Thursday Random acts of Kindness! A smile goes a long way. Spread happiness throughout your school by doing little random acts of kindness such as leaving cards with inspirational messages on every student's locker or just simply holding the door for someone else. Challenge every member to complete at least one random act of kindness.

Friday Connect the Ks! Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world and is a member of the Kiwanis family. Celebrate the entire family of Kiwanis by getting the whole gang involved. Connect with local Kiwanis, Circle K International, Builders, Kiwanis Kids or Aktion clubs and team up for a joint service project.

Advisor Appreciation day Advisors are the sometimes hidden but always present forces that help each club succeed. Their work isn’t always easy, but the sense of achievement and reward is real. Our clubs could not do what they do without advisors. That’s why we’ve dedicated an entire day to celebrate their commitment and service.

Help us make all advisors feel special on November 3! Here’s how:

Share this social media square on your social media sites.

Tag your advisor when you post it on social media.

Include an announcement about the day in all your club communications (website, newsletter, social media, etc.).

Encourage other members of your club to write messages of thanks to your advisor.

6 leadership skills for life These skills can be applied anywhere from a sport’s field to the classroom to your home life. You don’t have to have a “position” to apply these life skills to your everyday routine. ●

Passion: When you truly care about something, others can tell. You make it a priority.

Set the example: If you expect guidelines to be followed, you must be the one that paves the way.

Talk less, listen more: When you listen, you’re more likely to hear and understand the underlying issues.

Motivation: It’s one thing to have ideas; it’s another one to act and follow through. When morale gets low, it’s important to be the one who keeps people going.

Trustworthiness: Your team must know they can depend on you to have their best interest at heart. Building trust takes time and can be hard to earn back once it is lost.

Flexibility: Things happen. Plans change. Being open minded and accepting the idea of taking a different path show adaptability.

Wear Purple to Make a Difference March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that improves the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Premature birth is the number-one cause of death in children under age 5. Students across the country are helping to give every baby a fighting chance by spreading awareness, raising critical funds and supporting families affected by premature birth. Here are a few ways Key Clubbers can get involved: ❖

Spread the word about #worldprematurityday at school. Send a quick email to service clubs at your school or to the local March of Dimes national service partners. Ask them to support your efforts. This support can include telling members about an event or asking members to join a March of Dimes committee that you lead.

Host a World Prematurity Day event.

Wear purple, especially on World Prematurity Day (November 17, 2017).

Light your school purple.

Tell 10 people that November is Prematurity Awareness Month and November 17 is World Prematurity Day. Post a message with a link to marchofdimes.org/worldprematurityday and encourage your friends get involved.

Host a folic acid breakfast at school. Provide breakfast foods rich in folic acid, such as cereal, orange juice and bagels. Distribute March of Dimes handouts that explain the benefits of taking folic acid to reduce the risk of certain birth defects.

Invite someone close to the cause—a health professional, researcher or someone who has been impacted by premature birth —to speak at your school about the March of Dimes and how it changed their lives.

Contact a local March of Dimes office to get to know the staff. They can guide you to great volunteer events and opportunities for you and your school.

Contact your local neonatal intensive care unit and volunteer at a NICU Family Reunion, where families return to visit with and support each other.

Stay in touch with your principal or an advisor. This person is a great resource when you want to host other events. Learn more about March of Dimes by visiting their website.
