I thought in terms of visual design and basic understanding of the different elements of the book I decided to create visual diagrams the best way I could to explain certain processes and aspects of design for print. These small diagrams of formats and paper sizes show the scales of each paper size within the group of papers to make quick reference to when setting up your document.
After understanding the individual printing processes I decided the best way to display the processes would be through basic diagrams showing the simple process. Some sections of the ‘Print Processes’ book has photographs of the process to get a clearer understanding, such as screen printing and foil blocking. I greyscaled the images for it to be in keeping with the rest of the book in terms of colour scheme.
Diagrams to explain the different bindings and foldings. In the ‘Finishes’ section of the book I have also included photographs of embossing and debossing examples as I couldn’t find a successful way of displaying this through a diagram.

I decided to give my manual a colour scheme as I think this worked well when drawing diagrams, the colours I decided to go with were black and orange for the type and diagrams, greyscaled photographs for the example imagery and white for stock. I included one page of coloured photographs of my own photos of stock examples, I thought it was appropriate to keep the colour in these images as the reader then has a better idea of what the stock actually looks like etc.

LAYOUT: I think it was important to have a simple layout for the type of content that was being displayed, anything to crowded would of made hard reading. I kept my layout to three basic columns with diagrams on one side of the page and text on another. I used Helvetica Neue for the body copy as its simple and used Wisdom Script and Muncie Regular for the title pages and logo design.

processes:
I started drawing design sheets to get some initial ideas, seperating the different elements of the manual into appropriate chapters. I also looked at layout, and decided three columns for A5 format would work best.
I started researching into all the different sections of print processes, I found the internet a useful source for information and diagrams of the individual proccesses. I also looked at various ‘print manual’ books for help on layout and visual ideas.
I decided it would be good, in terms of doing the processes of print to bind my own book, I also experimented with embossing but it didn’t work exactly how I wanted it to, with more time I would of perfected it.
