Justin Lieb District Treasurer

Hi everyone! My name is Justin Lieb and I’m serving as your District Treasurer for the 2017-2018 Term! As the second deadline for the Treasurer Report Article nears, I would like to thank you all for your amazing submissions from the previous month! Thanks to all of you who continue to fundraise for our charities, and let’s continue this momentum into the next two months!

MJ Lara Emerald Liuetenant Governor

Hello, I'm MJ Lara, Emerald Lieutenant Governor, and I’m super excited to be a part of the 2017-2018 Finance and Fundraising Committee! Here’s a little bit about me: I play field hockey and I run track. I also dance with my school's polynesian dance company and I love Grey's Anatomy! I’m already impressed with those I’ve spoken to, and I’m excited to work with the rest of you this year!

Julianna Pantoja Kiwanis Family and Foundation Chair

Hi, I’m Julianna Pantoja, the Kiwanis Family and Foundation Chair.I am a current Junior at Otay Ranch HS (in Emerald Division.) In my free time I enjoy painting, drawing, and doing anything that involves creativity. I also, am obsessed with anything Disney and I often attend Disneyland. I am also a big movie watcher! I enjoy everything this committee has to offer and I am excited to work with YOU. Communication with treasurers is important: it helps us ensure we are providing material that better helps you and your school.

Cynthia Nguyen Jet Division

I’m Cynthia, Marina KIWIN’S Treasurer and also your FiFun Committee Member! I hope you’re enjoying summer and not procrastinating on your summer assignments, because I definitely am. On my free time, I like to crack open a good book. I think Harry Potter is pretty cool. If y’all got any book suggestions, please let me know! Oh, also my favorite TV show is, hands down, The Office!

Jacqueline Le Turquoise Division

Hey there treasurers!! I'm Jacqueline, president of Camarillo KIWIN'S, and it's a pleasure to be able to serve you as a member of the Finance and Fundraising Committee! I hope summer has been treating you well because my summer has been great so far! So a little about me, I'm an incoming senior who loves gudetama and has an almost-unhealthy obsession with stationary. I also am in a deep relationship with my Muji Black Gel-Ink Ballpoint Pen 0.38mm. Anyways, enough about me. I'm excited to work with you and see what you accomplish throughout the year! Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions!!!

Tina Ham Jet Division

Hey everyone! My name is Tina Pham but you can call me Tina Ham. I currently hold a treasurer position at Edison KIWIN’S which is in Jet Division. A fun fact about me is that I love coordinating bake sales because it brings a lot of income towards our emphases but I barely know how to make cookies from a cookie mix. I’m extremely excited to serve you all and I look forward toworking with you in the future!

On May 30, 2017 the HHS KIWIN’S club held a taco fundraiser during lunch in hope to fundraise funds to cover the costs for our seniors’ graduation gear. We decided on a taco fundraiser because all the students in our school LOVE tacos, especially street style tacos in a mini soft corn tortilla. On our menu we had combos which included: tacos, quesadillas, and drinks. We laid out a system to keep everything organized and in an orderly fashion. The three stations were order, pickup, and toppings. One would say what combo they wanted and have it written down on a ticket. You hold onto your ticket and hand it to the club member handling the food pick up and receive your food and drinks. Lastly, the toppings table are right down the line so the student can easily get their toppings and not be crowded by hungry HHS students wanting to get their food like savage beasts. Our fundraiser went fantastic! In the beginning we could not keep up with the large amount of people buying but we pulled through and got those orders out. This is definitely a fundraiser we are doing again and next time be a little bit more prepared to keep our expenses down.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! AUGUST TRAs ARE DUE THE 28TH!

WHAT ORGANIZATIONS

SHOULD I SUPPORT?

Key Club International and our CNH KIWIN’S District support a variety of organizations. Fundraise for these causes at your next event! We strongly suggest focusing on the three initiatives below, and using the organizations on the right as alternatives.

GOVERNOR’S PROJECT “Granting wishes to kids with life-threatening medical conditions gives them more than an amazing experience. A wish come true has the power to make kids feel stronger, more courageous, and more determined to overcome their illnesses. A combined 89 percent of doctors, nurses and health professionals surveyed say they believe a wish experience can influence wish kids' physical health.” Donate to the foundation to help fufil children’s dreams! (Make-A-Wish Foundation Website)

MAJOR EMPAHSIS CNH KIWIN’S Major Emphasis is Live2Learn, a CNH Kiwanis service initiative to improve children’s literary skills across the world. Working with children ages 5-9, CNH KIWIN’S clubs can conduct service projects to better educational environments from the local to international stages!Members can work with their sponsoring Kiwanis clubs to read to children, help at school events, and more! Because this is a service initiative without a money component, all Live2Learn fundraisers should finance future Live2Learn servicce projects. For example, if you are making a school supplies pack for underprivledged children, a Live2Learn fundraiser can fund the purchase of those supplies.

MINOR EMPAHSIS

Pediatric Trauma Program

Established in 1992, Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) is a main focus of KIWIN'S in conjunction with Cal-Nev-Ha Kiwanis. This program protects kids 0-19 from motor vehicle accidents, physical abuse, drowning accidents, falls, and animal bites, making it the leading cause of death of children in the United States. Every year it results in sixteen million emergency visits and twenty thousand deaths. To prevent these accidents, KIWIN'S has focused on fighting Pediatric Trauma through raising funds and by increasing general awareness through education.

VISION PARTNER YOU CANNOT FUNDRAISE FOR THIS ORGANIZATION Vision Partner Nickelodeon inspires kids to take action and make a difference in the world. Through the Big Help and Worldwide Day of Play initiatives, kids and adults work together to plan events and activities in the following areas: health & wellness, education, service and the environment.

COSPONSOR YOU CANNOT FUNDRAISE FOR THIS ORGANIZATION Rustic Pathways has 30 years of experience leading exceptional international education and service programs for students. With over 130 programs in 20 countries, Rustic Pathways is the global leader in its field. Rustic Pathways has partnered with Key Club to provide its members with the opportunity to broaden their global perspective while performing service projects in international communities.

PREFERRED CHAIRTY Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. All CMN Hospitals contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs and provide health care for children whose parents can’t afford to pay. Key Club helps support over 170 CMN Hospitals.

PREFERRED CHARITY The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes was founded by our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the fight against polio. After the discovery of the polio vaccine, March of Dimes focused their efforts to improve the health of babies and has been successful with the help and enthusiasm of many grassroots volunteers. Participate in their signature event March for Babies or have your own event!

PREFERRED CHARITY UNICEF, the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children, works with other United Nations bodies, governments and non-governmental organizations to assist in children’s needs through community-based services in primary health care, basic education, and safe water and sanitation in more than 150 developing countries. Participate in Trick-or-Treat for Unicef this Halloween! Unicef and Kiwanis also sponsor the ELIMINATE Project, another initiative to donate to!

SERVICE PARTNER Since 2014, Key Club International has been partnering with the Thirst Project during the Month of March to participate in the "Dirty Little Secret" campaign. In March, and for all of World Water Day with the help of Key Club International, the Thirst Project is telling the world's biggest dirty little secret - 748 Million people on our planet do not have access to safe, clean drinking water. A little bit can go a long way: $0.50 can provide clean drinking water for someone for a year, and $25 can give clean water for a lifetime.
