It takes a special kind of person to endure the cold months of Cape Cod. Many battle seiges of depression and seasonal affective disorder. Throughout the many moths of solitude however, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beautiful place that so many call home.

I’ve visited my house in the winters since I was little. I’ve learned a couple things: every season on Cape Cod has it’s own unique magic- there’s the nostalgic, exciting summers, the fall and spring which are quiet and lovely but only last so long, and winter on the cape is a whole different animal. The locals are cold and bitter through the winter months as they battle isolation, depression and boredom. However, the ocean can provide great solace; it is deep and wise and is the true magic of the cape.

One of the best parts about Cape Cod in the winter is the quietness of the entire place. Almost everywhere you go is so quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. You can take in The Cape’s natural beauty while dodging all of the beach goers, tourists, and teenagers that otherwise frequent the whole area.

One of the biggest attractions to Cape Cod in the summer months are the plethora of lobster joints, clam shacks, and ice cream parlors. Many of these places get boarded up for the winter, taking away some of the lure of tourism to The Cape. Some however, remain open for the locals that depend on them.

“

We keep our restraunt open year round for the people who need us. There is a strong enough community that is willing to dine out, even in the off months of winter. The closeness of the people who stick around makes it worth it to stay open and create as exciting of an atmosphere as possible.

Personally I love the winter season in The Cape. When the summer ends we get a new crowd of regulars in the store. It keeps work interesting for me. There’s a certain loyalty you feel when youre with the locals in the winter- you know those people are tough and can withstand anything.

The beaches in Cape Cod lure people from around the world to indulge in their natural beauty. The beaches are a special place year round, providing comfort and happiness to those who walk along their shores and dive into their waters. There is no closed or open season for the beaches, rather just different times of the year.

Every time I stand before a beautiful beach, its waves seem to whisper to me: If you choose the simple things and find joy in nature’s simple treasures, life and living need not be so hard. Psyche Mendoza, Province Town
