‘Collide’ Consumer culture as a creative process There is an implied view that consumption is a passive act, where we as consumers are manipulated by advertisers, marketers and designers into buying the signs that mark our differences. However, the inherent creativity of people and their often stubborn rejection of slick marketing has led some writers to present consumerism as a liberating force. The reality, of course, lies somewhere between the two perspectives. Consumption plays an essential role in the way that people creatively make their own lives – in their networks of friends and bonds of family, in their shared and individual leisure pursuits and ways of organising and conducting their work. For some people, particularly the young, consumption is highly expressive, individualistic and hedonistic – it marks out difference and provides pleasure. For others it provides a clearly identified set of codes to establish distinction and status. In a world in which most of us feel a lack of power and control – in both work and politics – consumption provides some source of choice and autonomy. As consumers we are neither passive victims or liberated free-wheelers. Our consumption has inherent constraints and no little degree of pressure, yet within these Constraints we can construct our lives and equip them with meaning. The essential task for designers is to understand how people make sense and meaning of the things they design, and how they create new experiences with them. It is a task that involves reconsidering the entire practice of Design.
HAPPINESS
THE INTERNET
YOUR FUTURE SELF
WHAT I THINK
“
I have decided I wanted to look into calming affects on the brain as I see my future being panned around keeping calm and keeping anxiety to a low. We need to create a physical and digital product showing our happiness, the internet and ‘your future self’. To me my happiness is when I am calm, as when I’m anxious I’m upset and I’m not Myself, the internet can help me in ways with this, the internet brings me bloggers who discuss their feelings on the matter and we learn off one another how to cope under the pressure, it also brings me escapism as I can watch (binge watch!) Series of programmes however that is my own little treat and motivation to get work done. Finally I see my future self being able to discuss with others my experience of university. I want to be able to help younger generations and families on how to cope with anxiety at University.
“
CALMING CHARITIES I have always been involved and reading articles from ‘mind’ charity, which focuses on mental illness’. They help individuals to change their minds and the way they think they have brilliant ambassadors along the lines of Zoe Sugg and Denise Welch. I have been reading an issue regarding being at university from a young 21 year old girl called Emmie.
“
My name is Emmie, I’m 21 years old. I’m a vegetarian, I love tattoos, piercings and having brightly colored hair, I have just graduated from Edge Hill University with my degree in Drama and I suffer from Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Almost every time I tell anybody that I suffer from anxiety, they either don’t believe me or attack me with a barrage of questions: how can I love performing yet be held back in ‘normal’ situations due to anxiety? I would have thought the answer was obvious. I am an actor and my whole career is about pretending and putting on a front and alternative personality. During my time at university, my anxiety held me back a lot. Fresher’s week completely destroyed me. I was surrounded by drunk people, all of them loud and in my face. Crowds make me shut down. I feel sick, I get dizzy, sweaty and I get the shakes, it makes me want to get out of that situation as quickly as possible. I wasn’t living in halls and so not being with any other students meant making friends seemed impossible. I tried to force myself to go out every night and ‘socialise,’ but it just made me worse and whenever I told anyone I suffered from anxiety, people would roll their eyes and walk away. I felt completely alone with nowhere to turn. When my course started, it immediately became clear that everyone was confident and bubbly, but I just can’t do that until I feel comfortable with people. I wasn’t really talking to anybody and it was so exasperating that my head wouldn’t let me show everyone the real me. However, things improved so much as people got to know me. I was able to explain how I felt and how my condition affected me. As my classmates began to understand, I was able to feel better in myself. Often when people hear the words ‘Anxiety Disorder,’ the shutters come down and people try and distance themselves, but this is simply because they do not understand what it means. Far too often people use the term ‘anxiety’ to mean shy, and it isn’t the same thing at all. Anxiety restricts my life every single day. I can’t walk down the street without thinking that everyone is looking out of the windows, pointing and laughing at me. Whenever I hear a whisper I instantly think it is about me, and I keep away from many forms of public transport as, if they get too crowded, I have panic attacks. I am known for my smile and a lot of people know me as ‘happy’, but sometimes that is just another performance, another role I have to play. I love the stage because it allows me to explore and be someone else for a change. I don’t take to the stage to be the centre of attention. If I have to give a speech in public out of character, I freeze and forget how to speak. I guess what I am trying to say is that you never know what is going on inside someone else’s head. Just reducing a person to how they appear can be really unhelpful and even insulting a lot of the time. I am not defined by my appearance, mental health or my career – I am just me. I’m Emmie, I love the stage, and I’ve got GAD. As they say, people shouldn’t judge a book by its cover! Emmie

CALMING CHARITIES
What I like about Emmie’s story is that she explains how she looks in the opening sentence she puts a picture to the text, she explains which university she went to and what course she did. At first the first sentence makes you think that you are reading someone’s personal statement or reading an ‘about me’ section on their social media pages, however I like how she declares her Generalised Anxiety Disorder from the beginning. I couldn’t agree more with what she is stating about everyone asking questions. It is very difficult so it would be amazing if I could create somewhere, where people that both suffer, have a family member/friend or colleague that suffer they will be able to find out about difficulty such as GAD. Like Emmie, my Anxiety held me back from a lot of things, which made me not get into any friendship groups making classes very difficult, making it difficult to go out and difficult on my family as they couldn’t keep me calm. There needs to be remedies and ideas to help both parents/guardians and students on how to tackle mental disorders whilst at University. Once people learn about the disorders and there is more awareness of them it will make it easier for the students that’s why it would be easier if there was a platform for help, with the help of mind charity they should be able to get more people aware. Well congratulations to Emmie on a successful blog as I found this helped me through my stressful times as a student.
CALMING CHARITIES Another blogger I’ve found is @MindfulEm also known as Emma. Emma uses her own experiences to give tips about dealing with peer pressure and depression at uni. She is so down to earth and I’m currently in the process of contacting her to get some of her own thoughts and opinions on what needs to be changed.
“
I have, technically, been to two universities. Five years ago, I arrived at my first to study History at a campus uni, but barely lasted a term. But on my second attempt, studying Law in a large city, I managed to graduate! I’d like to share some of my experiences of uni to help others who might be finding things hard. Life can become a bit of a whirlwind in the lead up to starting university. Nerves are natural, but it’s important to seek help if you begin to feel too overwhelmed. In my case, I had spent the summer having doubts about my choice of course, social expectations (binge drinking and late nights) and, perhaps worst of all, the worry of being 2.5 hours away from home. Nonetheless, I started my first term, and the homesickness was kept under control whilst I remained busy. It was only after reading week that I realised how unhappy I had become. Although I met some really lovely people, my course wasn’t challenging me as much as I’d hoped and with so much independent study rather than many lectures, I spent much of my day without much structure. I also found the student lifestyle of binge drinking and clubbing quite overwhelming. Alcohol exacerbated my mental health problems in several ways. Whilst drinking, I was the life and soul of the party and would be up for anything. My lack of control with alcohol meant I found it difficult to “just have one drink” and could easily be peer pressured into having another. It was the day after the night out that I would feel mentally terrible. My depression would spiral, my self-esteem would falter from the things I said or did and I felt that I’d been let down by this false promise of life that I experienced during one wild night out. I had started coming home every weekend and counting down the days until the end of term. I felt like I was the only one not enjoying myself and began to isolate myself from social situations. The GP knew about my depression and prescribed anti-depressants but it didn’t solve the situational difficulties. I didn’t know how to adapt to my new environment and deal with the social pressures that student life brought with it. I was just too overwhelmed and dropped out of university after one term. My second attempt at university was different for a few of reasons; the course kept me busier, the location more diverse and I spent the first term commuting from home. This really helped to ease me into the university course, without the accompanying anxieties of moving away from home. I decided to move into halls after Christmas and then lived with friends in private accommodation for the final two years. Unfortunately, I soon slipped back into the trap of drinking too much on nights out and saying yes to things I didn’t really want to do. After a series of wild nights and the worsening of my mental health, I made an executive decision to say no and not get persuaded into doing things just to conform. I won’t lie, this was difficult at first. I was frequently called “boring” when I refused a can of lager and even received patronising comments from bartenders when I ordered a soft drink. Yet the decision to stay true to myself has carried me into my 20s. I’m now unashamed to admit that I’ve suffered (and suffer) from mental health problems. I’m equally unashamed to admit that I would take a green juice over a glass of wine any day; prefer having picnics in the park than shouting over the loud music at a club until my throat goes dry; and would prefer to spend a Friday night cuddled up in my PJs with a book than forcing myself to stay out until 3am simply because “it’s a Friday night”. By sticking to my true self, I have made friends from the most unusual of places and do what I love: volunteering and working in the mental health sector. So if you’re just starting university, please enjoy yourself. But do remember that you’re not alone and it’s OK if you don’t enjoy being a typical Fresher. Chances are, there’s lots of people feeling the same. Emma Wilson

CALMING CHARITIES
I can relate to Emma’s blog post very well, I wanted to give up too, and there should be more support available from the offset for students that feel like this, once again going back to Emmie’s post it would help if parents had a support level that they knew how to support. My family were unsure how to deal with it and for that reason my mum sent me little parcels during stressful times, as when I got stressed I would stop eating so inside would be packs of risotto, pot noodles, chocolate little home memories like pictures and things from my room. These made me smile and I think if everyone can have little parcels sent to them then there wouldn’t be an issue on trying to get it posted, building a parcel and finding things to be put inside. It would be good if there was somewhere like a website or a shop in which you can build it and get it sent across! Emma mentions about the drinking becoming an issue many students suffer with this issue and some parents are worried how to confront their children on the issue. This could be because students are use to weekly/monthly nights out compared to when they are at home. Some parents are shocked by how much their children may have grown up, become more responsible and/or irresponsible with their drinking matter. I like the way that Emma finishes off the blog post by saying how you should enjoy university. I agree they really should, first year is one of the best years your going to get at university make the most of it!
CALMING COLOURS Researchers show that the colours that make people feel calm and relaxed is shades of blue, this is because it can bring back memories of seaside’s, or holidays abroad it is also the colour the sky which can bring back happy memories of summers and other activities.
“
Blue is the favourite colour of all people. It’s nature’s colour for water and sky, but is rarely found in fruits and vegetables. Today, blue is embraced as the colour of heaven and authority, denim jeans and corporate logos. It is cold, wet, and slow as compared to red’s warmth, fire, and intensity. Blue has more complex and contradictory meanings than any other colour. These can be easily explained by pinpointing by the specific shade of blue. Blue is the colour of the mind and is essen-
“
tially soothing; it affects us mentally, rather
than the physical reaction we have to red. Dark blue: trust, dignity, intelligence, authority Strong blues will stimulate clear thought and Bright blue: cleanliness, strength, dependability, coolness lighter, soft blues will calm the mind (The origin of these meanings arise from the qualities of the ocean and inland waters, most of which are more tangible.) and aid concentration. Light (sky) blue: peace, serenity, ethereal, spiritual, infinity (The origin of these meanings is the intangible aspects of the sky.) Most blues convey a sense of trust, loyalty, cleanliness, and understanding. On the other hand, blue evolved as symbol of depression in American culture. “Singing the blues” and feeling blue” are good examples of the complexity of colour symbolism and how it has been evolved in different cultures.
“
However aside from this blue can also represent sadness which is shown in the film ‘inside out’ released by Disney in 2015. (Diagram A).
“
Mind the charity (Diagram B) use a dark shade of blue in their logo which to me represents trust, so that anyone who is suffering on staying calm then there are people out there talk too. Anxiety UK (Diagram C) is another company which can help people to feel calm with their slogan being ‘here for you’ the colours they use on their logo is a dark blue once again to show possible trust within the company and intelligence as they know what they are talking about calm, also they use green which to me is a lucky colour because personally I associate green with ‘the luck of the Irish’.

CALMING ARTISTS Antony GormleyAntony Gormley created an art piece called ‘Blind Light’ in the Haywood Art Gallery in London in 2007, this piece was a box and inside the box was a mist to represent the clouds the issue was, was that the exhibition nobody could see one another instantly telling your mind to stay calm and relaxed, so then you thought your found a member of your party and it would be someone else looking for their friend which would cause the mind to naturally laugh. The exhibition was silent and would make people think calm and collective and what is important, finding your party or not injuring another. Tracy was in fact telling me she went to this exhibition and it freed her mind, I really wish I was able to go and see this piece live but when I’ve looked about nobody is actually showcasing it at the moment.
“
On Antony’s website he wrote this regard ‘Blind Light’ ; Architecture is supposed to be the location of security and certainty about where you are. It is supposed to protect you from the weather, from darkness, from uncertainty. BLIND LIGHT undermines all of that. You enter this interior space that is the equivalent of being on top of a mountain or at the bottom of the sea. It is very important for me that inside it you find the outside. Also you become the immersed figure in an endless ground, literally the subject of the work.
“
From this piece of work I have then found another project he made in 2006 called the ‘breathing room’, this website actually shows all of his projects and exhibitions he has created and participated in. The Breathing room is made up of three-dimensional drawings that are spread across a room. The structure is 25mm x 25mm square aluminium tubing that is positioned on different axis to create characteristics and create different perspectives.
Through more research of Antony Gormley, I found he is a sculptor that was the designer behind the ‘Angel of the North’ the proud sculpture overlooking the citizens of Newcastle. I have found numerous videos based on Antony Gormley, in which people discuss their own thoughts and process’ through ‘Blind Light’ and Antony’s own discussion on his creation. Due to him bringing the cloud’s inside for the human space to enjoy, therefore he placed human sculptures on top of other buildings around the Haywood Gallery, I think this works well because it would be a water cooler moment for other people who wouldn’t necessarily go to Art Galleries, they would most likely look on the internet or in newspapers why all these sculptures are looking at them (as they have been positioned to look at everyone) and they will find out about this art exhibition and more people may be wanting to see it as they may feel intrigued towards it! Personally if I’d of been in London at the time of this exhibition I would of been calling everyday on my way home from University.
CALMING ARTISTS Jane AustinJane is a watercolour artist who is local artist to Huddersfield she has created so many beautiful watercolour imagery which has such a calming feel to them, I had the chance of working alongside her in November 2015 and she has such a calming voice for when creating your own work. To make your own watercolours come calmingly. Her most popular art work is a ‘Carousel’ (Diagram A), now to me it isn’t calming because it is very bright distressing loud colours, however it does make me personally happy as it reminds me of home and being at the seaside, having fun with my family. Another favourite of mine is one called ‘Battersby Crossing’ (Diagram B) its all pastel colouring with grass, flowers, bench and the mountains in the background. On Jane’s website she states ‘I am a watercolour artist based in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Training as an illustrator I graduated with a BA(Hons) in 1986. In 1998 I made the leap to become a freelance artist, first selling through various galleries until opening a gallery studio for three years. My home then became my studio, where I hold many private art courses. I also work with various groups on a regular basis, as well as giving demonstrations and workshops. I love to paint with watercolour, no other medium can produce the effects that I strive for. Although I prefer to paint freely drawing is also very important to me. The subjects I paint range widely in order to capture images which inspire me. I work from sketches, life and photography. The majority of my works are original, though I have some prints and greeting cards. Commissions are a speciality, many being repeat custom or through recommendation. I also take on occasional illustration and mural work. I hope that you enjoy browsing through my website, welcoming any enquiries concerning sales, commissions and tuition. I do not have automated sales by choice as I find personal contact provides a much better service. You can keep up to date with my work in progress and art classes as they happen on my public Facebook page, Jane Austin Watercolour. I also have a profile with the Artists & Illustrators magazine and sell products through www.society6.com.’

CALMING ARTISTS Loafer EliassonThe weather project was another exhibition that I have been taught this project was showcased at the Tate Gallery in London. This beautiful piece of work was created in 2003 and it features a HUGE light, this was created with foil scaffolding and lighting. The art piece showed a massive sun but it was only half built this is because the roof was made out of mirroring and then the lighting reflected onto the roof. Many people were pictured lying on the floor and whilst lying there would wave to people on the other side of the room as they could see one another in the mirrored roof. Others, families, couples and friendship groups would sit in this room and have lunch and sit down and feel calm, this is because it reminded people of a summers day, or being sat in a park or on the beach or even on holiday (at the start of winter, which to me was brilliantly timed).

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, BUDDHA Recently in a seminar class with Rob we looked into different poems and references to the internet, happiness, and our future-self’s. I worked alongside two others and we worked on each others references and findings to think differently about products the best reference was given by Abby who shared with us her experience learning about Buddhism to calm her anxiety. It was so fascinating and she sent me the link to the pursuit of happiness, these were my findings from the website.
“
For Buddha, the path to happiness starts from an understanding of the root causes of suffering. Those who consider Buddha a pessimist because of his concern with suffering have missed the point. In fact, he is a skillful doctor — he may break the bad news of our suffering, but he also prescribes a proactive course of treatment. In this metaphor, the medicine is the Buddha’s teachings of wisdom and compassion known as Dharma, and the nurses that encourage us and show us how to take the medicine are the Buddhist community or Sangha. The illness however, can only be cured if the patient follows the doctor’s advice and follows the course of treatment — the Eightfold Path, the core of which involves control of the mind. In Buddhism, this treatment is not a simple medicine to be swallowed, but a daily practice of mindful thought and action that we ourselves can test scientifically through our own experience. Meditation is, of course, the most well known tool of this practice, but contrary to popular belief, it is not about detaching from the world. Rather it is a tool to train the mind not to dwell in the past or the future, but to live in the here and now, the realm in which we can experience peace most readily. All that we are is the result of what we have thought. It is founded on our thoughts. It is made up of our thoughts. If one speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows one, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the wagon. All that we are is the result of what we have thought. It is founded on our thoughts. It is made up of our thoughts. If one speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows one, like a shadow that never leaves. (Dhammapada 1-2 / Müller & Maguire, 2002.) The first and second verses (above) of the Dhammapada, the earliest known collection of Buddha’s sayings, talk about suffering and happiness. So it’s not surprising to discover that Buddhism has a lot to offer on the topic of happiness. Buddha’s contemporaries described him as “ever-smiling” and portrayals of Buddha almost always depict him with a smile on his face. But rather than the smile of a self-satisfied, materially-rich or celebrated man, Buddha’s smile comes from a deep equanimity from within.
“
I personally feel that religion can help to keep calm, people find it easier to talk to, others or pray to their own gods. I have found a place of peace within Cathedrals, no matter where I am in the world, when i’m on holiday or wherever I am in the UK I can find a Cathedral and be calm thinking about my family that I’ve gone it makes me feel closer to them and more at peace with my innerself. Just like Abby did when learning about Buddhism.
PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS, FILM In 2006 Will Smith starred in the film ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ alongside his son, child actor Jaden Smith. It had a budget of over $55,000,000 and in over year it made nearly 3 times it’s budget. The reason I have featured this film in my project is because this film makes you realise how lucky you are and that there are people out in the world with real issues. A strange fact about the film is that they used real homeless people as extra’s in the film they were paid minimum wage at $8.62 an hour and a free catered meal. As well as this the title: ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ is misspelled, being the correct spelling ‘happiness’. Happyness is not found in the dictionary and is not a word in the English language. It was made on purpose as it appears wrongly written in the kindergarten of Jaden Smith’s character Christopher! Reviews from criticsWhen his wife (Newton) leaves him, Chris Gardner (Will Smith) has no job, no home and a five year-old son (Jaden Smith) to feed. Salvation may lie in the internship programme at a prestigious San Francisco stockbrokerage something he must study for whil. An admirably unsentimental biopic with an excellent central performance. Chris Hewitt // Empire // 2 Jan 2007 09:00 Inspirational isn’t a word I would normally choose to describe a great movie, as it conjures up connotations of something sappy or overly sentimental. Nevertheless, I think that’s the word that best captures Will Smith’s powerful portrayal of real-life father and pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps worker Chris Gardner. As a new father myself, I’m hard put to think of any movie I’ve ever seen that inspires me more to be a good dad than this one does. Days after seeing it, memories of certain scenes continue to challenge me in my own occasional moments of laziness or self-absorption. Suffice it to say that self-pity and lack of initiative are two character traits Mr. Gardner simply does not exhibit, no matter how bleak things get for him and his son. Instead, he elevates Christopher’s needs above his own over and over again. He can’t always change their awful circumstances, but Chris does everything within his power to meet his son’s physical and emotional needs, and to protect him. Nothing can deter this loving papa from lavishing affection and tenderness upon his son. Director Gabriele Muccino says of this precious father-son relationship, “The movie plays like a love story. But in this case we don’t have a woman and a man meeting each other. Instead, we have a father and son walking together through life. Their relationship is very strong, very powerful. ... Chris endures the unimaginable and still makes sure that not even the worst moments will have a bad effect on his son’s life.” The chemistry between the pair onscreen is no doubt enhanced by the fact that Will Smith’s son, Jaden, portrays Christopher. Only a few negative elements (noted above) and the film’s occasional use of realistic, street-level vulgarities let it down. I’ve certainly seen PG-13 films with more language problems, but there’s still enough here (20-plus) to give discerning moviegoers pause. What won’t trip them up—and might even breathe new life into their own relationships—is Chris Gardner’s powerful, passionate pursuit of the best life possible for his little boy. Adam R. Holz // Plugged-In
On the movie poster I like the way in which the background is plain therefore making the focus point on the actors (Will and Jaden Smith) this can also resemble isolation and/or independence. The Briefcase could represent Will’s character being a buisness man but upon some research of American workers, it can represent a company that may be corprate. The main actors name is clearly displayed to draw an audience in as he is a well known actor. The young actor (Jaden) is dressed in clothes that resemble hand me downs as they are ill fitting and look worn out. He is also holding on tightly to one toy in paticular, which could suggest a lack of wealth however he is still smiling and holding onto his father. The sun beam is shining through on their connection which could sugest a few different meanings such as; look for the light in the darkest times or that the sun always shines when were together.

An unkind calmness An unkind calmness that took away the solicitude An unkind calmness that made everything a roun An unkind calmness that mixed the altruistic with egoistic An unkind calmness that took an evil tack An unkind calmness that made solitude more ween An unkind calmness that made white a black An unkind calmness that after a fruitful bliss became a dark pandora An unkind calmness that became worthy of unkindness !!
I Don’t Need Calm I don’t need calm I want stampede in my mind I want sparklers in my soul I want wildfires in my heart

Calm and silent love I hear the rain drops on my rooftop, whispering your name This peace that I am feeling, can’t be more superb a gaze of your pupils knocks me off my feet I don’t need calm I wonder how many miles I’ll And I wouldn’t want calm have to run to get between your If the roots of my madness Will be springing from your veins lips.

Calmness in Commotion Commotion of waves Filters innate dross With a heart in rave And soul in gloss
Calm Fear was extinct, and no other feeling could overcome the pleasure of this.
Calm Calmer quiet voices Roll round this soul, Searching for peaceful seas Upon which to sail.
Calm waters Fell from the dark grey clouds The sparkly drop of water so blue Into the vivid colours of the ocean
The Calming Tides, or, (How the Moon Spirited Me Away) the once tumultuous tides raging beneath my fallacies and flesh, calm as a new Moon sets over skeletons and shipwrecks, to pull me towards its light.

CALMING PRODUCTS There are many products that are out there that I feel can help many people in staying calm. APP’s These appplications for iPhone and Android users are available for free and/ or to buy. People can use them to hear relaxing sounds can talk to other people to get help or guidance on any issues they may have, you can monitor how calm you may or may not be and you can arrange things on these app’s so then it can arrange things in your mind. I used the 5 * app after seeing it from a blog post.
I receive a card nearly everyweek of my Mum from back home, now these are by a brand called touchnote. They are postcard sized and are created on an APP or their website. They are around £3 per card but you place your favourite photo on the front, and on the back a message and your postage stamp can be your own face! They are so cute and quirky and are all over my university walls! She even sends them to my nan!
CALMING PRODUCTS I love organised stationary and these are a few products i’ve found that can help you be organised which in my mind can help keep me calm and my family and friends calm. The range is by a company called Happy Jackson. I think it is such a cute quirky range and I love the colors that all link into one another!
A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS
MY IDEA My idea I have come up with whilst going through my research is creating something that can be posted to keep people calm, it will contain some things that people will find calming, I will run a poll to find out what makes people happy, their favourite quotes and possibly my own creation products. I have thoroughly enjoyed the work created by Happy Jackson and would like to create a range like this that could possibly gift boxed and sent to people with options of adding things in. I want it to be personalised things like organisers, diaries, sweets, drinks or possibly even a monthly subscription style box! I want to look into the costings of each individual item through various suppliers, come up with a moodboard, colour palette’s and other ideas that are already out there.

NOTEBOOKS
I personally like the ring binder idea, I think it is good if you can have a little folder you take around with you and it has different books for different ideas, I also like the recycled look but my favourite is the gold metallic on the fabric, even though this is nice it goes ÂŁ5 a piece when buying 50 in advance, so this works out quite costly. The colours that are standing out to me are the watercolours and the pastels, also the different prints for different ideas.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT EACH ITEM Notebooks - I personally like the ring binder idea, I think it is good if you can have a little folder you take around with you and it has different books for different ideas, I also like the recycled look but my favourite is the gold metallic on the fabric, even though this is nice it goes £5 a piece when buying 50 in advance, so this works out quite costly. The colours that are standing out to me are the watercolours and the pastels, also the different prints for different ideas. Pens - I love the pens which are floral and pretty, I also like it as they have the little quotes on, these can range from £3 in price to buy and merchants usually sell these style pens for around £6-£8 per piece, however if you bulk buy 50 it is reduced to around £1.89 a piece... This making more money for resellers. I like the colours that are used however one piece that stood out to me was the pencils with a label attatched I think a cute note can make someone’s day. Rulers - I am struggling to find places that sell rulers to be designed so I thought about buying my own wooden ruler, or possibly even creating one and then taking it to the laser cutters to get my own design made. I like the ones in the pots that are white and black they are a very chic design. I also like the ones that are made into wall hangings, as they can be cute to design and easily upcycled. Pencil Case - I like the fabric case the best, the one that is pictured in green, pink and blue. Now I like these however I cant create these till I’m back home which won’t be till may, as I can receive help off my family members on how to sew. I want to make various colours and then once I have pens, pencils possibly rulers I want to be able to put them into the pencil case to show the full finished design. I also like the quotes like the unicorn ones. Candles - I really like the teacup candles, I could find cheap teacups and saucers from a fair and then to buy the wax, colours, scents, wicks and holders it works out around £15. I also could but candles that are around £1-£2.99 cheap ones with a sticker design of a quote, this making it around £5 per piece to quote this would be more affordable to create. I also like the tray displays with a mirror and the flowers this would be nice for the exhibition to show and feature my candles. Lunchboxes - I like the various shapes and especially the compartments, the different sizes means you could take out one box and it could have all your dinner in one to make it easier than carry around a box, however I have seen a design which allows you to label each box, for example, main lunch, picky things, snacks and leftovers, they are colourful and I feel it would appeal to many people around the world. Calendar - The spaces to work that show up in these images are insane, paticularly the chalkboard squares and rectangles on the wall also the image that is a photo frame with patterns in the frames and then you are able to write on the glass with glass pens, if there are 7 frames you can label one per day and then you can do a weekly family organiser. I also love the year monthly calendar, which you can write on in spaces and have illustrations underneath. 5 Year Diary - Illustrations and watercolouring works best, however I like the leather bound books in which you can have a 3 month diary at a time, that way you can put them back up on the shelf and you can keep your memories over the years and anyone can start it whenever for example, January - March 2016, April - June 2016 and so on... The dates will be labelled on the binding and that way you can keep your journals over the years, It would be cool if there was an online version of this too, as people can lose books and their memories and this will help them to save it all. Photo’s - I enjoy photo’s that are A4/A3, and black and white, I have created over 20 of my own versions of quotes to make people happy. Phone Cases - Personally I feel that each phone case would need to be a different design and possibly create 4-6 cases that are in a theme but varied.

FINAL WEEK As it’s got to final week, I have become more stressed and not been calm (a bit ironic. Mum wanted to try something to help me as an only child, me and my mother are very calm and she always sends me little notes to tell me she loves me. She has started sending me these little parcels, to me and my two other housemates, inside each envelope or parcel is a few little gifts and a little questionaire to see if this has kept us calm. This is such a good idea and a massive help from my mum as I can create spreadsheets on the cost and work out how happy they make me and my friends. This way with the advice and guidance I have got a whole new type of research! I will attatch photo’s and questionnaire answers everyday off each housemate.

MY PARCEL
A SUPRISE PARCEL
On friday we received a suprise parcel, the only issue was nobody was in to collect it, upon me phoning the Royal Mail and complaining as they didn’t attempt to deliver to our neighbour, which is their policy, this caused me a bit of upset as it was addressed to the girls and we was really excited, I was then falsely told, regardless that my driving license doesnt say my address and that the parcel is adressed to the girls, that I could still collect from my collection depot, so I went in and then was told I can’t have it, I was told wrong and they couldn’t deliver it until monday, making me call up to extend my complaint. I was told on the phone on friday that they could of redelivered our parcel on Saturday but because I said I would collect it this caused a lot more upset, frustration to us all because we really were looking forward to a parcel coming all together. Grace Armer received the girls night in parcel on Monday. Grace Hobson received the mummy’s hug parcel on Monday. I received the month parcel. We all said we prefered individual parcels, and that we felt better for receiving the parcels as it gave us something to look forward too. We all loved all of our parcels but it’s a little bit more exciting when you dont expect a parcel as you become curious as to what is inside the parcel.
