Project: Workplace of the future - group project Date: 2040 Goal: Design the workplace of the future - based off of workplace trends and the makers movement Predictions: -By 2040 a large majority of workers will no longer be tied down to long term jobs -The workforce of the future will have job flexibility and the ability to travel The Hive system provides housing and community for freelancers; Because of similar “Colonies around the world, these workers would have more flexibility to travel while maintaining a sense of consistency and community. The connections made through the Hive would help the sharing of skills and ideas as workers interact with one another from around the world.

THE HIVE International hubs will allow for short term workers to have a community in which to live, work, and share skills + ideas.

Entry - Floor 1 Overall, we separated the building into working, eating, playing and living spaces. There is one continuous staircase through the whole building, never rising more than a few feet at a time. We wanted to create separations between the spaces while still maintaining visibility. This way everyone is together, though the programs remain separate.

LIVING LIVING LOUNGE KITCHEN WORK ENTRY

Work - Floor 1 Staircases also separate the spaces by their level of interaction; first is the loudest collaboration space, next smaller collaboration, followed by individual rooms. Our goal was to create multiple options for how one might want to work, ranging from a large collaboration table to an oversized bean bag chair in a private room.

Work tables for 4 or 5, the optimal number of people to have on one team

Kitchen - Floor 2 Following the private working space is the more individual eating space, then the group eating, then the kitchen. This way the noise of the kitchen wouldn’t ring down into the working space. The members of the hive would be expected to help prepare meals, and clean together in order to promote collaboration.

Lounge - Floor 3 Following the loud kitchen area would be the active lounge space including interactive screens, and game tables. Like the other floors then next would be more intimate and so on, keeping the loud spaces near the loud and the quiet spaces near the quiet spaces.

Live - Floors 4-5 This version of the hive has 20 bedrooms total. There would be shared bathrooms and shared laundry on each floor to create run in zones. Each room would be customizable to the individual, giving them adjustable storage as well as temperature, light and color control of the room. Because the hive is designed for 3-6 month stays each room is equipped with a full size bed, allowing for plenty of space for one, but some room for loved ones to visit.

“A strong colony culture of collaboration, cooperation, and trust happens uniformly and automatically at every place within the hive. There is a belief that being ‘in colony’ will produce something exceptional, far greater than doing it alone.” - Deborah Mackin, Survival of the Hive: 7 Leadership Lessons from a Beehive

Project: Hybrid Building Date: 2014 Goal: Turn this garage into a hybrid building - take an

existing theater and natatorium and have them coexist in one building, while adding an additional program of my choice - reception halls.

POGUE GARAGE Combing an existing garage in downtown Cincinnati with a theater and a natatorium, to serve as a new piece of hybrid architecture for the city.

Concept + Program One of my main concepts was to incorporate waves/undulations into my design. The garage is only located a couple blocks from the Ohio river, and from the roof there are beautiful views of the Cincinnati hills. I did this by making a roof that would feel like hills when on it. At the same time, from the ground the movement of the roof would be viewed more as waves. I brought waves into the two main programs as well. I added waves in the Natatorium as a visual guide for swimmers as well as undulations in the theater for acoustical purposes.

Reception Halls

Functionality + Impact Because the programs are so different I wanted there to be no interaction between them. I continued the double helix up the center as a way to separate the levels. I also brought in extra elevators and stairs in order to give them separate entrances. The Theater and reception halls would enter off of the east elevators and then exit down the spiral, whereas the natatorium enterance would be off of the elevators in the center. Because of the double helix even if these events happened simultaneously the programs would never interact.

The green roof would serve as a park open to the public, making a large area for people to enjoy some much needed green space in Cincinnati. Image the view of the WEBN fireworks from this roof! It would also serve as a nice intermission space for the theater for part of the year.

RENDERINGS A collection of renderings and projects from my time at the University of Cincinnati.

Stair Section After studying a stair on the University of Cincinnati’s campus I built it to scale in Rhino. After exporting the line work I rendered over the line work with colored pencil, pen, and watercolor and then added scale figures on Photoshop. What made this stair stand out to me is how it is repeated outside of the building as well.

Emblematic Drawing I created an emblembatic drawing by investigating a stair on UC’s campus, looking into the circulation, materials, massing, vertical and horizontal components, and natural lighting. I then made diagrams on top of plans and elevations. I sketched the stair, and then combined the sketches and the diagrams into the final emblematic drawing.

Interior Space This was a study of a Starbucks on our campus. Hand drawn with people photoshopped in, I wanted to recreate the same relaxed atmosphere one feels in the space. I focused on the red and yellow pendants. The pendants are what make this Starbucks different than other locations.

Room Render This is a rendering made from the first sketchup model I had ever made. We were just required to make an interior space and design it however we wanted then had to export and bring the model into photoshop. I chose to make a sitting room, looking into a dining room.

INTERNSHIP Examples of some of the work I have done on my two 4 month long internships at Kadlec Architecture + Design in Chicago.

Kadlec Architecture + Design This is a collection of autocad works completed while at Kadlec Design. During my 8 months there I worked on plans, elevations, construction documents - floor finishes, reflected ceiling, partion, demo and power plans, schedules and details. Left Top: Exterior elevations, proposed exterior changes for a second residence in Arizona. Left Bottom: Reflected Ceiling plan of a single floor residence in Chicago. I helped on the construction document set. Below: Set of drawings for a small kitchen remodel in Chicago. I created all of the below drawings.

Kadlec Architecture + Design Because Kadlec is a firm of only 8 people I had the opportunity to work on many different tasks. In addition to Autocad I also helped pull finishes, fabrics and furniture. To the left I have included a plan (rendered outside of Kadlec), the fabric palette and the pulled furniture which I helped gather for this living room.

Also I was given the responsibility of creating two of Kadlec’s ads. The one on the left ran in the January 2016 issue of Architectural Digest, and the one to the right ran in October 2015 of Modern Luxury Interiors - Chicago. I was also entrusted with the task of making a portfolio for Kadlec. https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/54611399/kadlec-architecture-design

PERSONAL A collection of personal projects, done in my spare time.

Bathroom Remodel Over summer 2014 I remodeled our small 5’ x 5’ 6” powder room. With help from my Dad I ripped out and installed new drywall. On my own, I then did the mudding and sanding. I laid the tile and grouted. I painted the walls, ceiling, door and base boards. I designed the bathroom on an extremely small budget, spending about $800. The colors of the bathroom were chosen off the mosaic tiling detail.

Sketches + Artwork These are just some of the many sketches and drawings that I have done. Some are from my sketchbook, and some finished hand renders. I enjoy working mostly in pen, watercolor and colored pencil.
