Town Overview Tucked into the Pioneer Valley, West Springfield is a town of tradition and simplicity. It is a community of townies and lifers.
6
Town History Settled in 1635 for good farming land, West Springfield was not incorporated until 1774. Travel across the Connecticut River to weekly town meetings and church congregation was dangerous. It was not until a family of three died in the crossing that West Springfield demanded their own meeting places. At the time, West Springfield was larger than its neighbor, Springfield.

Town Today West Springfield today is largely residential. The former farming land has been used for houses and commercial land. The property value is much higher than that of Springfield and has a brand new high school and middle school. This type of community has attracted many families, the median age of the town being 39. It is an ideal place to own a home, easily accessible to other areas to work.

The Meaning
THE W To represent the differentiation between West
Springfield and Springfield, the letter mark highlights its defining feature, being west of Springfield.
SEPARATION The Separated W visually represents the
separation of the two towns. The negative space of the W is occupied by the river.
THE WAVES The Connecticut River is the separator
between Springfield and West Springfield, it is what lead to the establishment of the town centuries prior. The contrasting weight of the river reflects that of the W and logotype.

The Meaning
NOE DISPLAY Designed by Schick Toikka, this display,
transitional typeface has high contrasts in its terminals and strokes. The sturdiness and bold but refined style is reflective of the traditional town.
GRAPHIK Originally released in 2009 by Commercial Type,
Grpahik is a geometric sans serif typeface. It was created for maximum flexibility in communication. This rational sans pairs well in juxtaposition to the bold contrast of Noe Display.
HARRIET This typeface is a rational serif typeface —
inspired by design popular in the mid-20th-century, Harriet draws from both transitional faces and modern faces. This text face works seamlessly with varying styles of headers and displays.
