hese relationship building conversations are nonverbal and are expressed by the posture, attitude and foot placement of the horse! They are beautiful to watch and rewarding to both handler and horse to perform! The reward for the person is the expression of peace and confidence and softness that comes from the horse and the reward for the horse is the comfort and peace that comes from the handler allowing the horse to experience the freedom that lies between well thought out and comforting boundaries! Just a closing thought; not even one hand fed treat was used to produce the beautiful picture of horse human relationship that I just painted for you! Treats are tools used by horses to control people! In fact there is a warning that horse shoers use to help each other to stay safe: it goes something like this. Watch that big bay horse because he is a carrot eater!! Just a little insider info for you!!! Lol no I really am serious stop feeding your horse treats out of your hand before you create some sort of dog torturing rabbit out of your horse!!

About our cover! Maddie Alden & Marlowe Weis With Like a Boss, AKA “Hawk” Photo submi1ed by Trisha Rackers Like A Boss aka Hawk was won off of a dollar raffle ticket at a high school rodeo. He was a registered 3 year old QH. He lived in a field until he was five then sent to Columbia Equestrian Center to be trained by Kris Wallace as a Hunter. Since then his owner, Cole Rackers, and Hawk have won many MHSA and MOHJO State Championships the past few years. Maddie Alden age 8 (Rider) and Marlowe Weis age 7 (Assistant Coach) met and trained together all of 2016 at Columbia Equestrian Center. They often competed against each other, yet remained the best of friends. When Maddie moved up to cross rails, Marlowe was there cheering her on! Their Moms, Jodi and Erin who also ride, became best friends too. They both have strong quarter horse roots and have their own horses who they compete with in the hunter ring and at local fun shows. The girls are very supportive of each other and all of the other riders when ever we are at horse shows. They are always together ringside taking pictures and cheering their teammates on. Both girls won year end 2016 Reserve Championship awards through MHSA. This photo was taken at William Woods University at their Jumping Derby last fall. Maddie and Hawk competed against much older girls and placed well. These two girls will go far in the show ring!
About the Contest! In January we ran a cover contest through our Facebook page. We were on the search for your best horse show photos! What an overwhelming response we had!!! There were over 16,000 hits on the contest, and 75 wonderful photos were entered! The top entries were neck and neck on the close of the contest. So close that it was hard to call! (votes were still coming in through out the night of close!) We decided to award the top three photos with three separate magazine covers! Please look for our next two winners on the April (Trisha Rackers photo entry) and May (Kim Hansons photo entry) covers! Thank you to all that entered! Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for future contests!

and how it relates to the body. Equine iridology was used extensively in the United States until about the mid-1940s, when the Industrial Revolution and the use of modern medicine made it, and all other forms of holistic treatment, less popular. In most of Europe, however, holistic treatment was embraced and has further progressed that it is now is used for breeding and race performance in thoroughbred horses. The eye is the ďŹ rst organ to form inside the brain of an embryo. It carries literally all the information of nerve damage that may have occurred in a foal during birthing. It has been found that the iris can reveal inherited kidney weaknesses as early as 6 weeks of age. This information can include from which parent the imbalance has been inherited, and is extremely valuable when determining what bloodlines to breed. A kidney weakness does not mean a kidney disease,
The eye is mapped into sections, each governing separate body parts and organs. To the trained eye it is fairly easy to determine which organs and body parts are aected. The iris can also show past or unresolved old injuries and identify fairly new ones. The iris gives information about the digestive system, toxicity, worm infestation or damaged ulcers, etc., as well as information about temperament determined by the central nervous system. This information can indicate if there has been possible damage to a nervous system. With knowledge of this information one is able to pinpoint behavioral problems as well as performance problems. For example, a horse that seems to lack focus might simply have a problem in their digestive tract, which may be easily remedied with herbs or a change in diet. Iridology is a very good tool to use to be able to determine whether or not to purchase a horse based on its physical history.

August 2, 3 August 2nd 9am-August 3rd Hiking survival School August 3rd, 6pm– August 4th 6pm Equestrian Extension 8-12th Grades and Adults welcome! Registration due by APRIL 14th! Experience level: No experience required. Taking a hike or a horseback ride in one of St Louis’s many beautiful parks is fun and enjoyable until something goes wrong! Unforeseen circumstances like sudden weather chanhes, trail wash outs, an injury, falling off and losing your horse and even your horse spooking and running with you for a few miles from your intended trail do happen. Preparing for these evens take a little planning, skill and a “go kit” that includes the tools you will need. We’ll use Hidden Acres Homesteads large acreage & trails to learn to prepare for losing your trail and finding yourseld on-the-grid without cell phone service; even to be able to handle the unexpected overnight out in nature! Go Kits are included! The evening will include a camp out with tents and cooking with cast iron over the campfire!
