2017 AHCA Missouri State Championship AHCA (American Horsemen’s Challenge Association) is a national organization that combines obstacles and horsemanship. Their national championship is in October at the Missouri State Fair Grounds in Sedalia, MO. Here are the 2017 MO State Champions and a few words about the state championship being held at Von Holten Ranch located just 14 miles SE of Sedalia, MO.
Rider: Kiley Gibson Equine: Sweety Division(s): Wrangler & Youth Words from Kiley: “I like the competition because it helps me improve. I like the people in MO AHCA because they are nice and friendly. I was happy that Von Holten Ranch has a covered arena so I didn’t get rained on. My haflinger made me happy by becoming a competition horse. I like that the AHCA is about horsemanship and I like riding the great trails between competitions.”

Rider: Andrea Caponetto Equine: QTS Dunnit Royal aka “Sage” Division(s): Novice & In Hand 2 Words from Andrea: “My favorite thing about AHCA has been meeting amazing new friends, challenging myself to reach new goals, and being able to accomplish those goals and grow as a team.”
Rider: Sherri Cale Equine: Dawn’s Jayhawk aka “Pete” Division(s): Limited Amateur & Legends Words from Sherri: “The best part of the season was by far the people that I competed with in the championship. The support we had for each other to do better every ride, the challenge of each competition, and of course, my beloved Pete was my favorite part of the State Championship.” Rider: Emily Gomez Equine: Bucks Fancy Rose aka Maya Division: Green Horse 1 Words from Emily: “My favorite part of the MO State Championship Series was advancing my relationship with Maya. We’ve really been through a lot this year and I have learned so much about her and myself. My other favorite part was meeting so many new wonderful friends.” WWW.HOOFPRINT JOURNAL.COM ©

Rider: Kathy Tyre Equine: Gato Commado aka Gato Division: Amateur Words from Kathy: “I really enjoyed the opportunity to experience so many different obstacles! Through this year’s training, I have improved my riding skills and strengthened the bond between myself and my mule. It was a pleasure to meet so many wonderful people and form new friendships for life.” Rider: Debbie Murry Equine: Dun My Lucky Spice aka “Sage” Division: In Hand 1 Words from Debbie: “My favorite part of the championship series was riding this incredible horse and enjoying every moment of her training. She has taught me as much as I’ve taught her.” Rider: Terri Hatcher Equine: I Will Smash Division: English Words from Terri: “What I liked about the State Championship was showing how barrel horses are well educated, spending a lot of time with my horses, wonderful new friends and treasured old friends, helping others, and camping conversations.”
Rider: Tyler Ayler Equine: Peppy Dawn, HESACDCUTTER Division(s): Open, Green Horse 2 Now that AHCA has grown in Missouri, Von Holten Ranch has partnered with Eagle Ranch in Collins, MO for the 2018 Missouri State Championship. The two facilities believe in the vision of AHCA and with AHCA requiring the host to pay back 50% in each division. Von Holten Ranch and Eagle Ranch will provide options for competitors to take their winnings, apply winnings to future camping, or credit them toward a buckle or leather products. At this time championship buckles are not able to be provided but are available at a discounted price for purchase. With the foreseen growth in AHCA by 2019, the divisions should be large enough to provide buckles and other amazing prizes to competitors. Above: Kiley Gipson Below: Meaghan Groenemann
In order to become the next MO State Champion, your top 8 scores will be combined. Ties will be broken by greatest number of firsts, seconds, etc. World Champion Lee Hart will be at Von Holten Ranch before each AHCA in 2018 for a training clinic. My journey has just begun,
H
i, Mustang Brilliant A itude here. WOW! What an adventure I have just returned from. I was in the 2017 Extreme Mustang Makeover and I am so grateful for everyone who joined me on this journey and those who have followed along from afar. It was a very dierent experience for me down in those big buildings, big arena and people walking by continuously. You should hear the talk. Have you ever been just still and heard what everyone around you is saying. People saying isn’t he beautiful, what is he going to bring at the auction, where is he from, have you heard of his trainer, some said I could never own a mustang, and many put their hands through the bars to wave, I prefer to use the bars to scratch but whatever you need to do I suppose. There were kids in the stall ways riding their bikes, watching computers; it was like static on a TV to me, nothing like at home where it was peaceful and serene.

his competition started with 123 trainers in May and ended up with 60 making it to the show to compete. I won the handling and condition class, was 11th in the maneuvers and down a ways in the trail. The average of all 3 classes put me 3rd overall positioning me to be one of the top 10 ďŹ nalists. Now the slate was wiped clean and we all began the ďŹ nal two runs on Saturday. Saturday morning early was a reining pa ern and Saturday evening the freestyle. I have to admit I lost my serenity going into the ďŹ nals, I was scared especially when I looked up and saw a horse moving as I was, it was me on the big screen! I made it through and placed 8th.
My trainer purchased me at the auction and I am backing home in Missouri with the Cappel’s, ready for the next phrase of my life. I hear I will be going to schools, organizations to share how an a itude is connected to your results. I believe I have a story that will interest all and I am going to share it through a book that I am writing called, the journey of Mustang Brilliant A itude, Look at me – Find yourself. I am so grateful for you who have been following along, it has and will continue to be fun ‌ Mustang Brilliant A itude

rainers view: It is a good expression of life. Your not in this thing alone, there are people are around, people want to join in and journey with you. I believe that is true for everybody, however’ it can only be expressed when your willing to step out of your box of comfort and strive for something bigger than yourself. When you’re willing to do that, doors of opportunity will open, connections with people will be made and you will learn about yourself in the process. The awareness of the importance of direction from trusted mentors becomes invaluable. This horse show was merely an avenue to allow deeper appreciation and awareness to express itself.

Tranquil Companion Healing touch for Animals Ž Encompassing animals with energetic healing through stress and pain relief. Imagine being able to study the Equine Iris and determine whether you should ride or show today– and what to do about it‌
This is all possible with Equine Iridology Ellen Collinson School of Equine Iridology hosted by Tranquil Companion, enrolling now for September classes! Iridology is one of the most beneďŹ cial and rewarding sciences one can learn. It is a safe and painless and non intrusive form of diagnosis, via the study of the iris using magniďŹ ca on. In this way inherited gene c strengths and weaknesses as well as tendencies toward certain ingrain/system dysfunc on may be ascertained. Professional iridologists agree that acute, subacute, chronic and degenera ve condi ons of the body are all reected in the iris. Iridology is now part of the curriculum for many colleges, including, the medical schools in Moscow and in the Medical Department of the University of Paris Nord. Which is why French equine trainers know immediately what an equine iridologist is.
Ellen Collinson’s School of Equine Iridology is now being oered in the Un!ed States, hosted by Tranquil Companion. Cer ďŹ ca on can be completed in as li le as ďŹ ve days. Curriculum includes four levels of training with prac cal's at the end of each day, books are included. We oer cer ďŹ ca on, life me mentorship, advise, and tools for se+ng up your own prac ce as well as lis ngs on the Tranquil Companion and the Ellen Collinson’s School of Equine Iridology Resource Page and Websites. STALL SAFETY Here are a few tips on handling your horse in and out of a stall. Catching your horse safely in the stall- As you approach the stall assess your horses behavior. Make sure your horses head is toward you at the front of the stall. Drop your lead rope around the horses neck and back him up just a little to move to the other side so you can put the halter on your horse. Once you have your horse secured make sure your horse gives you enough space to move toward the door. Hold your horse back and open the stall door. Make sure the opening is wide enough and bring your horse out. Releasing your horse safely in the stall - As you are leading your horse toward the stall in order to put them away, pause for a moment before leading in. You should be ready to go into the stall first leading your horse behind. Don't try to squeeze through with your horse at the same time. Make sure the door is open wide. Don't let your horse crowd you by asking them to take a couple steps backward if needed. Make sure you are approaching straight and lead the horse through turning the horse away from you once you get in so that you both are facing the front of the stall. Safely put the lead rope in one hand and close the door. After releasing your horse from the halter, make sure you step in front to prepare to exit the stall. These tips are brought to you by the Certified Horsemanship Association and Schellie Blochberger CHA Instructor APHA/AQHA Professional Horseman
