H
ow many ways can YOU ride a horse? The Trixie
Chicks Trick Riders, an elite all-female specialty act team based out of Springfield, MO, take the bond between horse & rider to the next level. From hanging by one foot with their heads dragging on the ground to standing proudly atop their horses at a full gallop, the Trixie Chicks travel across the country entertaining crowds at rodeos and horse events. The team is currently composed of the following riders: Kelsey Temmen (23), Shelby Epperson (25), Kelsey Scott (24), Katy Tennison (24), and Shelby Feltrop (18) as well as their trusty AQHA & APHA steeds named Cookie (11), King (15), Lightning (12), Count (15), Cinch (13), and Sparky (15). Most of the girls are either currently enrolled, have attended, or have graduated from college where they each had an emphasis in agriculture. WWW.HOOFPRINT JOURNAL.COM Š 2015

The equine industry is extremely competitive, especially in the world of trick riding. Equestrians alike are all trying to find a way to stand out and be different. The Trixie Chicks have found a way to make that happen and probably not in the way you would imagine. They pride themselves on their emphasis on crowd interaction. When trick riding performances take less than 5 minutes in the arena, the Trixie Chicks have found that they can make the biggest difference and impact by what they can bring to the table outside of that arena. As soon as their performance is over and they have taken the time to cool-out and care for their horses, they return to the arena to sign autographs, take pictures, and answer any questions that the crowd may have. This is a chance for the Trixie Chicks to interact directly with the people who were cheering for and supporting them earlier in the show and also allows them to help motivate those fans towards reaching their dreams, especially if it involves becoming a trick rider! Trick riding is already extremely dangerous and has to be done under the supervision of a professional, but many people take for granted the specialized training, proper equipment, and amazing horses that make it possible to stay safe. The Trixie Chicks have spent the past six years training with trick riding professionals and legends around the country and in Canada. This, combined with the knowledge and experience they have gained from years of performing, has allowed them to become one of the most well-known and sought after trick riding teams in the world today. However, their passion doesn’t just end with performing; they also love to share their passion for trick riding with the next generation through clinics and lessons. Whether you plan to try and become a professional trick rider or just try it for fun to say you did it, trick riding clinics and lessons with a trained professional are the safest way to learn about the sport and all that it entails.
