about me
I am an industrial design student soon to graduate from Northumbria University’s BA(Hons) Design for Industry degree. I have over a year of industry experience and during my degree secured placements working for companies including Philips Design in Eindhoven, Cosatto Baby Products and Gola Classics footwear. My placements alongside my university studies have helped me to develop my core design skills, (sketching, prototype modelling, Solidworks and the Adobe suite). I am passionate about product design and innovative design thinking and research. I recently won a 2015 RSA Student Design Award for my competition entry ‘Babybiome’, an integrated product and service design exploring public awareness of the Human Microbiome and Newborn babies, soon to be exhibited at the Eden Project this summer. I am looking to relocate to London to pursue a career in design, seeking immediate employment.

There is an increasing demand in the Nursery Industry for male centred product design and marketing, alongside a growing preference amongst males to value babywearing as an influential factor in aiding bonding with their children at an early stage. However the market is infiltrated with baby slings valued as feminine in form and baby carriers that are complicated to understand and use.
The Joey InfantVest offers the versatility to carry your baby alongside conveniently storing all essentials. Inspired by the outdoors the carrier is lightweight with a low profile design made from tear resistant Ripstop Fabric and a breathable 3D airflow reverse to reduce heat and moisture, providing ultimate comfort to parent and child.

presentation of concept
“The Joey carrier tackles the growing need for 'dad centric' design in the nursery sector, which is incredibly difficult to address without appearing too novel or stereotypical. The Joey InfantVest strikes that balance primarily through its intuitive, simple to use, fastening system and the subtle styling and tailoring, appealing to dads needs without being overly masculine. - Stephen Shaw, Associate Product Design Director, Cosatto Ltd.
