Spring into Service Kayleen’s Keynotes Hello Key Clubbers of the Rio Grande Valley! My term is nearly coming to an end, and I just want to say that it has been a pleasure getting to know you all! District Convention is right around the corner! Now is the time to start deciding and electing your officers for the upcoming year! This will help strengthen your officers since they have the opportunity to shadow the current officer. Key Club is a yearround service organization! Yes, we are even supposed to meet during the summer! (what what) If this is news to you, it was news to me when I first became Lieutenant Governor! Okay, we can all learn and grow in Key Club together! Keep it classy and sassy, Division 11!

Yours in service,

Kayleen Cantu

Officer Elections Is it a good idea to elect so early? YES. Electing officers in February or March is usually the time at which most clubs within the TexasOklahoma District elect the new officers for the upcoming Key Club year. The earlier, the better!

How will it help the club? When you elect your officers before summer begins, the elects of the current officer will be able to “shadow their person. This helps them become better acquainted with the position, and your club is going to benefit from their experience. The less time it takes for them to learn, the faster you can accomplish things!

Harlingen High – San Benito High – Lamar Academy – IDEA San Benito

Has your club Paid their Dues? Marine Military Academy – McAllen Memorial – La Feria High – Los Fresnos High

IF YOUR CLUBS HAS NOT PAID THEIR DUES, YOU ARE NOW CONSIDERED “SUSPENDED” BY THE KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION.

SO MAKE SURE TO PAY YOUR DUES! AS LONG AS YOU PAY YOUR DUES, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THIS STATUS! TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!

The Governor’s Project What is the Governor’s Project? The Governor’s Project this year is called the B.R.O Project and B.R.O. is an acronym for Brothers Reaching Out. Every year, the District Governor chooses a project for the Texas-Oklahoma District to participate in. Our District Governor, Brian O’Hara, has chosen to partner up with Children’s Miracle Network hospitals inside the Texas-Oklahoma District by providing service and also by fundraising.

What does this mean to us? Children’s Miracle Network, a network of hospitals across the nation, provides medical care to all of their patients regardless of economic and social status. Children’s Miracle Network hospitals total over 170 across the United States, and over 20 of them can be found here within our District. These hospitals change our communities and as Key Clubbers, we can help them. Check out the T-O District Website at tokeyclub.com for more info!!!

The District Project What is the District Project?

Did you know?

The 2012-2013 District Project is also known as The Eliminate Project. The purpose of Eliminate is to rid the literally, eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus off the face of the earth by vaccinating mothers for the deadly disease.

1 child dies every 9 minutes from Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT). So by the time it takes you to read this newsletter, one baby will have died from Maternal Neonatal Tetanus.

Why does this matter to us? Every mother should have the right to a healthy birth for her child. Every baby has infinite potential. Protect the connection.
