This is a portfolio of the research and design proposed for the city of Rocinha during my final studio at the University of Minnesota's College of Design. With the World Cup in 2014 and even larger Olympic Games in 2016 both taking place in Rio de Janeiro, just a few miles from Rocinha, this favela will be getting a lot of attention in the upcoming years. This intervention hopes to break up the dense blanket of uniform building mass and introduce a site sensitive network to improve conditions and help sustain future growth. It therefore proposes a solution at two scales; one effecting the favela as a whole, and the other serving the locals at an architectural scale. All research and research based diagrams were done collaboratively as a studio under the instruction of Dan Clark. City scale intervention was designed by myself and Christian Borgan. Architectural scale intervention and all visuals created by myself.
