Retirement community hosts planting, cleanup

InhonorofEarthDayon Tuesday,April22,residents,staff,vendors, familiesandfriendsof HavenwoodHeritage Heights,afaith-basedcontinuingcareretirement communityspanningtwo campusesinConcord,will join192othercountriesto notonlyobserveEarthDay buttomakeadifference.

Thiswillincludeafullcommunityeventtojump-start thelandscapingseason,includingraking,spreading dirt,mulchingandageneral clean-up.

At11a.m.thecommunity willcompleteacelebratory tree-plantingceremony withabarbecuetofollow.A totalofsixtreeswillbe planted.

“Wehavewellover100 residentsvolunteering,as wellasstaffandothers

comingtogether,’saidJane Poitras,vicepresidentof HeritageHeightshousing.

“Thisisanopportunityfor neighborstohelpneighbors,stafftoworkwithresidentsoutsidetheoffice,and communityvolunteersto experiencethespiritofour community.”

TheSundaygatherings typicallyattract300to500 carsandupwardsof1000attendees.Cars&Coffeealso hostswhatorganizerscall ‘TheMainEvent’,anautomotiveshowandcelebrationevenlargerthanany otherSundayofthe season.Lastyearsawover 1000carsand5000spectators.Thisfall,TheMain Eventwilltakeplaceduring thefirst-everConcordAuto Rallyweekendin September,afullweekend's worthofcarshowevents andfestivities.

Applications open for Leadership Greater Concord

TheGreaterConcord ChamberofCommerce’sannualleadershipprogramfor areaprofessionalsisacceptingapplicationsforthe classof2026.Leadership GreaterConcordhasintroducedover650community memberstocivicactivity andvolunteerpossibilitiesin NH’sCapitalRegionforover 30years.

Thishighlyimmersive programbeginsin September2025andcontinueswithmonthlysessionsdaysthroughMay 2026.Participantswillgetto knowdifferentaspectsofthe cityduringday-longsessions thatcoverhistory,artsand culture,education,livable communitiesandsmart growth,governmentand politics,thecriminaljustice system,economicdevelopment,communicationsand themedia,andhealthand humanservices.

“IhavelivedinConcord myentirelife,andI’ve

learnedthingsaboutthecity anditsbusinessesthatI neverkneworneverexpected,”saidclassof2025 participantNikkiStuppard ofShakerRoadSchool.

“Whetheryou’renewto workinginConcordorhave beenhereforever,itisagreat experience.”

LeadershipGreaterConcordoffersanall-starlineup ofspeakers,including prominentbusinessand civicleaderswhoareactively workingintheGreaterConcordcommunity.Notable

speakershaveincluded:City ofConcordMayorByron Champlin,GovernorKelly Ayotte,nonprofitleaders, representativesfromthe ConcordPoliceDepartment, andmore.Theprogram’s small-groupformatencouragesmeaningfulconversationswiththeseleaders,fosteringconnectionsthatextendbeyondgraduation.

WhileLeadershipGreater ConcordprovidesdeepinsightintotheCapitalRegion, therelationshipsformed amongclassmatesandpre-

sentersareattheheartofthe program.Participantsbuild strongbonds,engagein candiddiscussions,anddevelopanetworkoftrusted peers.Manygraduatesgoon toserveascommunitypartners,nonprofitboardmembers,orcivicleaders,leveragingtheirexperienceto drivepositivechange.

Author releases children’s poetry anthology warner

Warner-basedpoetand anthologistMattForrestEsenwinereleasedanewanthologyofchildren’spoetry atthestartofthemonth.

Thebook,titled“AUniverseofRainbows:MulticoloredPoemsforaMulti-

coloredWorld,”isillustratedbyartistJamey Christoph,basedinCornish.Theanthology,which includespoemsfrommany well-knownchildren’s poets,combinespoetry withscienceandnature.
