Tacloban rep wins 2016 Korean Speech Contest

Call for Applicants: 2016 Taste of Korea Contest Philippine Round

KOREAN Cultural Center in the Philippines, in partnership with Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Culinary Institute will be holding the 2016 Global Taste of Korea Cooking Contest on July 2 at LPU. The cooking contest is open to Filipino citizens aged 18 and above, both professional and amateur cooks who are passionate about Korean cuisine. KCC recently held a Korean Culture Caravan at University of Santo Tomas last April 29. Students were given a chance to taste Korean Food; fit and take a picture of them wearing Hanbok and play Korean traditional games. Raffle prizes were also given away to guests.

A 26-year-old volunteer teacher from Tacloban City won the grand prize in the recent Korean Speech Contest grand finals held last April 30 at the Ateneo de Manila University. Angeli Marie Baclea-an, who bested 10 other finalists from Manila, Cebu, Baguio, Iloilo and Davao, won a six-day Fun Korean Language Trip to Korea courtesy of the Korea Tourism Organization Manila (KTO) and 30,000 pesos.

Placing second is Christine Dizon of the Philippine International College followed by thirdplace winner Janine Laddaran of Ateneo de Manila University. This year’s panel of judges was composed of LEE Jong Min, wife of Korean Ambassador to the Philippines KIM Jae Shin; KIM Jong Ho, principal of the Korean International School; LEE Jong Hwa, professor at the University of the Philippines (UP); PARK In Shik, director of KTO Manila; and KCC Director OH Choong Suk.

2016 1st Term Class Graduation also represent the Philippines in the Grand Finals which will be held in Korea. The winner for the grand finals in Korea will win $ 10, 000. Application starts on May 10 to June 10 2016. The Korean Cultural Center recently held its graduation for the 2016 first term of classes last April 23. Students of different classes showed a series of performances and video presentations on stage. Classes such as Korean traditional dance, gayageum, K-pop dance, taekwondo and Nanta tshowcased their talents on stage. International Fair & Nolja: Korean Day in UP

Various cultural and scholastic partners of University of the Philippines (UP) teamed up for the UP International Fair last April 25. Hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students were introduced to various international learning opportunities through study abroad programs.

On April 26, Korean students of UP and KCC held the Nolja: Korean Day. Korean cultural booths, Korean food and Korean-related activities were prepared for the attendees to enjoy. To cap off the event “I love OPM’” finalist Jmorning and cover dance group Se-eon wowed the audience with their performances.
