‘Opulence’ exhibit features Korean traditional royal art Korean traditional artworks, historical items, and portraits of the previous kings are some of the artworks displayed at the recently opened exhibit of KCC titled, “Opulence: The Art of Korean Royal Palace” on September 2. The exhibit aims to present the Korean cultural heritage through the reinterpretation of the artworks inside the royal palaces during the Joseon dynasty. 19 artworks created by the artists from National University of Cultural Heritage (NUCH) in Korea are displayed in the exhibit. Korean Ambassador KIM Jae-Shin, in his welcoming remarks, expressed his delight to witness the popularity of Ko-

rean culture in the Philippines. He added that upon his arrival in the country April last year, he was surprised to see the Filipinos’ positive reception towards Korean cultural-related activities. “Today’s exhibition is a very good opportunity to show the beauty of our traditional art. We will try to continue this kind of opportunity to introduce our culture more to the Filipinos,” said Ambassador KIM. In his speech, NUCH President KIM Jae-Yeol said that the exhibit is a remarkable step in spreading the Korean traditional and cultural heritage to the Filipino and Korean community. . Korea is a nation with a long history.

Spanning over 5,000 years of different eras, that has its own distinct dynasties. Its last dynasty, the Joseon Dynasty, ruled over the Korean Peninsula for more than 500 years, from the fall of the Goryeo Dynasty in 1392 until the Japanese Occupation in1910. “We have high hopes that this exhibit would be a meaningful step in introducing Korea’s history and traditions to the international community”, KCC OH Choong Suk said. The exhibit is co-organized by NUCH in Korea and is KCC’s third exhibit for 2016. The exhibit will run until November 18 2016 at the KCC Exhibition Hall. Admission is free.

Korean Film Festival to open in six cities The Korean Film Festival, organized by the Korean Cultural Center and Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines, is one of the largest celebrations of Korean cinema in the country, with screenings of the greatest Korean films from 2012 to 2015. From September 8 to October 16 2016, the Film Festival will be held in six cities, Pampanga (September 8 to 11), Davao (September 15 to 18), Iloilo (September 22 to 25), Cebu (September 29 to October 2),

Chuseok, family members gather to visit their ancestral homes. As a tradition, Koreans usually sit around and make rice cake called, “Song-pyeon” together. This year, Chuseok is celebrated from September 14 to September 16.
