Filipinos, Koreans invited in ‘Korea Week’ celebration

The Embassy of the Republic Korea in the Philippines, KCC and the United Korean Community Association in the Philippines (UKCA) will be holding “Korea Week,” a week-long activity from October 11 to 16. Korean National Day Reception As a way of celebrating the establishment of Korea, the Korean Embassy in the Philippines will hold its National Day reception at the Korean Ambassador’s official residence on October 11. Korean Film Festival Five Korean movies will unreel at the 2016 Korean Film Festival from Octo-

ber 13 to 16 at SM Megamall. Movies to be screened are “Ode to My Father”, “Beauty inside”, “Confession of Murder”, “How to use guys with secret tips” and “The Suspect.” Admission is free. Window on Korea The National Library of Korea, KCC, the Ateneo Korean Studies Program and the Rizal Library will host the 2016 Window on Korea Event from October 10 to 13, 2016 at Ateneo De Manila University Leong Hall. The event aims to promote the university’s Korean Studies collection and encourage scholarship on Korea by featuring diverse aspects of contemporary Korean culture through a series of activities and seminars. 2016 HRD Korea Job Fair Human Resources Development (HRD) Service of Korea will have its networking and job-fair at Aim Conference Center on October 13, 2016. Test on Korean Proficiency Exam KCC will be holding the 48th Test of Proficiency on Korean (TOPIK) examinations on October 16, 2016. TOPIK, a Korean language test both for foreigners and overseas Koreans studying Korean, is generally used as a measure of proficiency in the said language by those whose native language is not Korean.

OFFROAD Fan Meeting K-pop boy group OFFROAD will hold a special fan meeting for their Filipino fans on October 14, 5PM at the KCC Wave Hall. The group debuted on September 2012 with the song “Bebop”, followed by their second digital single “Head Banging” which was produced by Block B’s ZICO. Korea’s National Foundation Day ‘개천절’ (Gaecheonjeol) Celebrated every third of October, the National Foundation Day of Korea is in commemoration to the founding of the Korean nation in 2333 B.C. by the legendary god-king Dangun. A simple ceremony is held at an altar on top of Manisan Mountain in Ganghwado Province.

Hangeul Day ‘한글날’

Hangeul Day or Korean Alphabet Day, is a commemoration held every October 9 in Korea to remember the creation of Hangeul, the country’s native alphabet invented by King Sejong. On October 9, 1443, hangeul was invented and disseminated with a thorough explanation of logic behind each stroke of its characters.

2016 Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival Filipinos and Koreans will once again showcase each nation’s culture as the annual “Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival,” commence on October 15, 2PM at CCP. The Festival is divided into two parts. The first part will feature Korean traditional performances Serotonin Performing Arts Company and Seoul National University (SNU) Korean Music Ensemble. The ABS-CBN Orchestra and Metro Manila Community Orchestra which will be led by Conductor Mr. Gerard Salonga will also present ‘Beautiful Nation’, ‘Salidummay’, ‘No piu andrai’, ‘One Fine Day in October’ together with Korean guest singers. The Philippine-Korean united chorus team, which is composed of 330 members, will perform Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ together with the ABS-CBN Orchestra and Metro Manila Community Orchestra at the last part of the program. For the second part of the Festival, there will be a Korean and Filipino K-pop

Contest, 8 Filipino and Korean teams will compete for the grand finals. K-pop group, ‘The King’ and popular ballad singers, Hwang Yohan of ABSCBN’s ‘I love OPM’ and Filipino artist Derrick Monasterio will also have special performances during the competition. Admission is free.

K-Ribbon Exhibit & Promotional Performance

KCC together with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea will have its ‘K-Ribbon Selection Exhibit’ at Shangri-la Mall, Mandaluyong City from November 2 to 8. As part of its promotion campaign, there will be special performances from Serotonin Performing Arts Company, who will play the Korean traditional instrument Nanta and Kpop group OFFROAD on October 16 5PM at the East Atrium of Shangri-la Mall.
