Application for 2017 Korean Speech MARCH FILM AND Contest opens CONCERT SCREENINGS: Filipinos fluent in speaking Korean language are once again invited to take part in the 2017 Korean Speech Contest. Organized by KCC, United Korean Community Association (UKCA) and University of the Philippines, interested parties are required to compose an original speech that would relate to the main topic of “My Treasure.” Applicants may submit their forms on or before March 22, 2017, with the announcement of qualified applicants on March 25. Contest is open to Filipino citizens of all ages with good proficiency in Korean language. They must not have lived or stayed in Korea for more than one year in the past three years. This year KCC will be holding the 2017 Korean Speech Contest regional competitions on April 1 in the cities of Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Baguio, Pampanga and Manila. Winners of the regional leg will compete in the grand finals which will be held on April 29 at University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. Regional grand prize winners will win 5,000 pesos and a roundtrip to Manila to compete in the grand finals. The grand winner for the grand finals competition will win a roundtrip to Korea courtesy of Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) and a cash prize of 15,000 pesos. Go GANGNAM! K-Food Festival at Novotel
Novotel Manila recently held its Korean Food Festival last February 21 to 27 at Food Exchange Manila – Novotel’s in-house buffet restaurant. Titled, ‘Go Gangnam! A K-Food Festival,’ the event was in partnership with Korean Cultural Center and Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam. The festival aims to promote the further the Korean cuisine in the Philippines and foster an even healthier cultural exchange between the two countries. Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam’s Chef Kim Jong-Man also arrived from Korea to attend the launching of the food festival.

사군자 & 민화: Korean Traditional Painting class at UP KCC ART EXHIBIT: ‘Eternal light’ by Han Ho
UP Korea Research Center in partnership with Asian Center, UP Diliman and KCC together with UP Arirang recently conducted “사군자 & 민화: Korean Traditional Painting” class. Lee Tae Jeong of KCC conducted the workshop on Korean Traditional Painting Sagunja and Minhwa. The participants had a chance to make their own korean traditional painting using Korean traditional fan as canvas.
KCC opened its Korean media art exhibition ‘Eternal Light’ on February 9 at KCC Exhibit Hall, Taguig City. The exhibition features 15 artworks and installation arts of Korean contemporary artist and performer, Han Ho. In ‘Eternal Light’, Han Ho explores on the diversity of human emotions, inner conflict, and hope. According to him, he creates tiny holes in his paintings to let the light pass through. The result of this repetitive process creates a new form of art in his painting. During the exhibit opening, Han Ho did a performance art wherein he produced a series of light reflections from different people. He calls his performance art as “Light Human.” The ‘Eternal Light’ exhibition will run until April 28, 2017 at the KCC Exhibition Hall. Admission is free.
