VERSATILITY TESTS TEAM’S STRENGTH Coordination, cooperation and collaboration are three important elements in any horse and rider team. Pinto Horse Association Amateur member Katie Beaumont has spent the past four years enhancing the team she forms with her 5-year-old mare Bikinis N Martinis. This year, she will be testing that connection in the Amateur Versatility Showcase. “She (her mare) always tries really hard,” Katie said. “She want’s to please you.” The showcase will take place in the Ford Truck arena tonight after the last class in arena one. Katie participated in the combined versatility in 2006. She said the most exciting part is changing between events. “You have to know each other backwards and forwards,” she said. “If you’re not a good team, you’re obviously not going
to be ready in time.” Tonight, Katie will compete in halter, western pleasure, English pleasure and barrel racing during the versatility class. Her team is prepared, including her grooms. She does not normally participate in barrel racing, but has practiced the pattern a few times. Always looking for new opportunities, Katie is most looking forward to the halter section of the versatility. The amateur does not usually take her horse in that class, but enjoys doing something different. “I’m just excited. It’s just a fun class,” she said. “I’m excited for my groom team too.” Come watch Katie and the other amateur riders compete for the versatility title tonight. After the showcase, the amateur hippology results will be awarded as well as the versatility awards. PWC Press • No. 4 • Page 1
