T

errita Torres Designs is a very unique clothing brand. Designed by Territa Torres, who is probably one of the most original innovative emerging designers we’ve seen in a long time. Her ready-towear line utilizes pleated details as the main element throughout her beautiful collection. Boldly feminine, innovative and expressive for the hustling woman on the go with comfort and style is Tarrita’s personal style of fashion. While attending The Art Institute of California San Diego (AICASD), Territa was encouraged by her professors to create their own original designs. During Fashion Week San Diego 2015 Territa showcased for the first time her ENVY collection, this was also her first time creating her own designs. After thinking about how she could set herself apart from already established brands including fellow emerging brands, she decided to use the pleat as the main focal point of her designs. After sharing her idea with 2 close friends they both told her not to go with the

pleat. Since she had already pleated 3/4 of the fabric and had done the patterns and mockups, Territa decided to move forward with her original plan. When the collection was shown on FWSD’s runway, she felt a sense of accomplishment and was proud of herself. Her brand won 3rd place in the Top Designer category from that night forward

ward. Elsa Schiaparelli, a surrealist fashion designer has shown her to not follow trends and fads and always try to achieve a state of stand-alone designs. Roberto Cavalli without a doubt has influenced her the most, his work is impeccable and stunning. His views on beauty come from life experiences of travel and art. Its amazing what he can see beyond what is in front of him. Territa looks forward to scheduling travel time for visiting art galleries and museums when it is time to create a new collection. The one thing that Territa would like to see change the most withing the fashion industry, is for consumers to purchase from new emerging brands instead of supporting “who’s hot now” celebrity brands. She is formally trained, with a degree and always learning new techniques for

Silvia Kal Actress, TV Host, Writer & Model

S

ilvia Kal, Actress, TV Host, Writer and Model from Madrid Spain, is a hidden gem amongst creatives today. Being very humble, Silvia has quietly managed to book some of the best acting and modeling gigs in both Spain and the United States. She is known in the film industry for Goya’s Ghosts, Crypto Game and many more movies and TV series which you can see in her IMDB bio. Her modeling portfolio is packed full of other editorial spreads where she has appeared in various magazines from around the world.

Q: At what age did you first start modeling?

A: I didn’t start until I was 18 be-

a guy friend who was obsessed with presenting me to Miss Spain, haha. I never tried to enter Miss Spain, but all these people made me believe that maybe I should give it a try. I was fortunate to do my first shoot with a wonderful photographer whose work was beautiful and her attitude was fantastic. First experiences are always so important to determine if you want to keep doing something or not.

“I want to create photos that people will remember and not just quickly scroll by in their news feed”

Q&A with DASHA ART Dasha Matrosova

Q: What or who motivated you to start creating photographic art?

A: In my early childhood days, I re-

ally liked designing various things. I learned how to sew, knit and I loved to draw, all of which, led me to become a photographer and creating my photographic artworks. I decided to study photography while studying at a university. Then I realized that I wanted a modern, artistic job that would compliment me. I have now been working in the field of photography for 6 years.

Maria Aristidou Luxury Fashion Designer “The knit provides a comfortable feeling all season round” Model: Angeline Parent

In 2015 Maria Aristidou introduced her first A/W 2015 Capsule Knit Scarf Collection, a beginning of a new concept in her designs. The uniqueness and versatility of knitwear inspired her to first explore and then create, using luxurious threads and elaborate techniques, various knit patterns. The craftsmanship of detailed hand embroideries adds to the uniqueness of Maria Aristidou’s Knit Fabric Collections for the couture evening wear and accessories The designer’s collections all made in Cyprus, include women’s couture knit eveningwear, knit wedding dresses luxury knit beachwear for men and women as well as accessories such as scarves, turbans, and headbands. Maria is currently working on a new scarf collection for men and women A/W 2019220. She is also working on

46

her new Luxury Beachwear Collection for both men and women, as well as her new S/S 2020 Women’s Couture Collection. If that’s not enough, she is finally going to create her men’s Capsule Collection, with this she is very thrilled! So far Maria has created 7 collections.

Maria Aristidou Being inspired by designers such as Jeanne Lanvin, Alber Elbaz, Marie Grazia Chiuri, and the unforgettable Alexander McQueen, has led to her amazing creativity. Her goal is to make her clients feel Luxurious, feminine, modern, classic while at the same

time, unique for its “knit niche” and handcrafted embroidery. The knit provides a comfortable feeling all season round. Maria’s style of dress is also, comfy and classic with details that stand out. Most of her design process can take up to a week or two, but to produce the fabrics, and the collections, usually take up to 4-5 months each season. The process of each collection production starts from sketching the collection. Once the sketches are finalized, the fabric pattern is designed in great detail for the knit machine technician to transfer it to a computerized program for the knit machines. Then, a series of tests to decide what yarns will be used for each pattern, how thick or thin the fabric will be, color sampling combinations, hand-embroidery design testing, quality, and durability checks, etc, follow. At the same time yarns such as wool, viscose, lurex,

such as wool, viscose, lurex, cotton, silk, and velvet (depending on the season) are ordered from France and Italy to produce the desired fabrics for the collection. Cutting, hand embroidering and sewing follows. In each step of the couture collection, from making the fabric till the sewing stage there is always a testing period because the collection is the prototype, thus, the production process many times always goes through changes to receive the desired outcome. When asked had she ever struggled financially in the fashion industry, she replied, “The fashion industry is quite an expensive business to start with especially when a brand has no outside finance. Even though I may experience some financial issues, things are getting better with a lot of work and persistence”. Maria Aristdou’s portfolio is very impressive! Every design she creates is from scratch. The only fabric purchased is the lining. The art of knitwear is not only luxurious but wearable all seasons, comfortable, classic and at the same time modern. There is a lot of work, love, and passion about it and she is proud that everything is produced in her home country Cyprus. I’m sure you will agree, that the “MARIA ARISTIDOU” brand will soon become a household name within the luxury fashion industry worldwide.

Raquel Designs are created by Fashion Designer Raquel Chavez, a woman who has a passion for fashion and desires to follow the same pattern of her grandmother who was a seamstress. Raquel is a native of San Diego, California. Raquel presented her first collection in 2014 during the Golden Scissors awards, which is part of the San Diego Mesa Fashion program. Then in 2018, she presented her “Day To Nightwear” collection in the House of Blues in San Diego. In 2019, the new collection was presented during the “Fashion Fest”, a part of Fashion Week Latina, and then presented again during “Experience Fashion Night”. “This collection was created with dedication and love”, stated Raquel. Being inspired by the streets of Paris became the driving force behind her new SIRAP collection which means Paris spelled backward. This collection was designed with tones of Spring colors and fabrics. The collection was constructed in a French style with a different silhouette that fits well with the woman’s body.

Wearable, versatile designs, created for work and play, full of personality and color, for women who don’t want to look the same as everyone else. According to Christina., New Zealand is bright, fresh and has so much amazing landscape and color. She is inspired even when being out in the country hanging with her horse. She is also part Greek and is inspired by the culture of Greece.

wears Lilika and loves it, they now have a great friendship, and keep in contact with each other after initially meeting at LAFW. Some TV hosts/personalities have also worn Lilika over time. When asked how Christina wanted women to feel while wearing her designs she stated the following: unforgettable, unique, elegant and fabulous inside and out! When a woman walks into a room wearing Lilika, I want her to feel like all eyes are on her. She knows that at best there are only a handful of outfits like she is wearing around the world. I have always said, there is more to just putting on a pretty dress, it is the way it makes you feel, makes you move. There is power in feeling amazing and what I would love is my designs to make a woman feel like that! Christina is very passionate about designing and styling, to her these two components go hand-in-hand. Her true desire and purpose is to make women feel beautiful inside and out. That is why she wrote a book to share her journey. You can find her book, “Passion, Fashion & Heart which was recently released and became an Amazon Best Seller. Even though she is passionate about fashion, she is equally passionate about helping and guiding women on how to dress for their body shape. How to feel good and not just be about the clothing they wear but also about what they love in life, to follow their dreams. Christina is not all talk, she walked away from a corporate career to follow her passion for fashion.

Maraley “Balance of modern and traditional, the balance of masculine and feminine, the balance of needed and wanted”

and innovating by combining modern pieces with their traditional embroidered pieces. Although she was quite popular among her friends and family back then, designing was nothing more than her hobby and passion. The real deal was the creation of exquisite Maraley collections that she decided to share with a world years later. Maraley collections have a lot of deeper meanings for her and one of them symbolizes the bridge between Asia and Europe: through conservative masculine-looking corporate wear and flirty, feminine embroidery. Attributable to the fascinating and rich historical and cultural background of her country, At the age of 7 Mehri Babayeva, the designing and embroidery craft intimately intertwined with their women’s owner of Maraley created her first embroidery handcraft for her mother. daily life up until this date. Embroidery handcrafted when women would hum When she turned 17 she created a heart-felt melody and decorate their her first dress design for her prom clothing with beautiful and intricate patcelebration. After Mehri moved terns goes back to Ancient Silk Road and to Europe for her studies shortly Nomad times. after, she started experimenting araley, the go-to brand for beautiful, elegant and game-changing clothes for women is nestled in the heart of truly Asian Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. Maraley is committed to delivering high-quality, elegant pieces through seamless customer experience throughout the world. From premium fabrics and impeccable workmanship to custom tailoring and exquisite embroidery - Maraley’s work-of-art pieces are all about the details.

102

The core concept that lies behind all of Mehri’s designs is Balance. Balance of modern and traditional, the balance of masculine and feminine, the balance of needed and wanted. During her earlier years in a corporate environment in the banking industry, Mehri according to her words, was all too pushy and dominant almost like a man losing her feminine touch as she grew in her career. She remembers wearing plain traditional suits and office clothing and that felt like the outer expression of her growing inner dissatisfaction with herself. Mehri was longing for colors, liveliness, vibrancy and this was the point when things started changing for her. That shift is reflected in her first exclusive collection: a sophisticated fusion of traditional masculine work-wear and refreshing feminine embroidery: a shift in favor of “desired” rather than “needed.” Ever since the inception of the Mara-

ley brand, Mehri’s personal style is the Maraley style. As someone who started from scratch, she has been wearing many hats: designer, business owner, production manager, you name it. It will come as no surprise then that she is also her brand’s ambassador. Whenever she has an important meeting or company function, Mehri pulls out either something from her collections or own customized designs that sit well and feel good. In general, she doesn’t always choose designs that only fit her, but also designs that are in season, fashionable and in style at the time. One of Mehri’s favorite designers is fine woman’s wear designer Roland Mouret, for she admires his simple yet very elegant style. Famous for draping and fitted silhouettes, his designs celebrate femininity. Mehri can easily identify with his native awareness of sensuality. Although he lacked some designing skills in his early years of career, his natural taste allowed him to create impeccable clothing and become one of the fashion world’s icons. His life story encourages and empowers any “natural” designer who follows his passion and love for designing. When we asked Mehri, “Is there anything you would you like to see change within today’s designing industry?”, she stated, “In my opinion, the change in the fashion designing industry is not an external event. It is possible and is already happening as many women start making conscious choices for their personal fashion style. It’s a shift that happened in my life in favor of desired rather than needed. When women are confident enough to wear something they desire rather than a piece that needs to be in your wardrobe because it’s a last scream of fashion. The digital and creative age we live in makes it possible to choose from a diversity of designs from young and talented designers and it has been never easier than now

to build your unique style and to express your authenticity. Unquestionably, it takes courage to break through fashion stereotypes and stand out from the crowd with your style, innovative work or any other creative endeavor but I believe we all are well along the way to that positive change”. Having traveled all around the world from a young age, Mehri believes that her self-reliance has given her the strength to build her own path in life and make choices based on self-questioning and self-exploration. She believes that this also holds true for fashion style as well. While ever-changing fashion trends dictate women what to wear and how to wear, Mehri’s sincerest desire for women is that they find their own unique style that expresses their own individuality. Mehri believes that the beauty and uniqueness of her collections are the first steps on a women’s journey to their self-discovery through their authentic fashion style. For Mehri, vibrant colors and exquisite embroidery designs are external celebrations of women’s inner joy and light. Mehri would love to see every woman wearing her collections, but since from a practical standpoint it is not quite possible, her target is cosmopolitan cities with a largely female population of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, such as New-York, Toronto, Los-Angeles, Sydney, Dubai, and many others. Mehri or the Maraley brand represents the uniqueness of every woman. Mehri feels that when women embrace and express their authenticity through their own style and their own choices in favor of desired, rather than needed, they become an inspiration for others to shine the way they are!

Global Fashionista “Creating meaningful content around the world for the luxury television network, Cinémoi”

Jackie J Studio Cinémoi Q&A with Jacqueline Chambers Q: What motivated you to start creating luxury fashion content and videos? A: It all started when I decided to go to fashion school. I was looking at international business courses and my college admin said I should look at doing something that I’d be happy doing even if I wasn’t getting paid. Fashion was a nobrainer. School and internships lead to me meeting my business partner, which ultimately lead to me creating content for brands and media organizations around the world.

Jacqueline Chambers Photographer: Vincent Chan

Jacqueline Chambers is a Los Angeles based content creator, event planner, online marketing strategist, wardrobe stylist and founder of lifestyle blog TGIFguide. She also runs her own content creation and marketing company, Jackie J. Studio. Since founding her first online publication, Forward Fashion, Chambers has continued to be a respected voice in the fashion/media industry, working with brands and pro-

ductions including LA Swim Week, New York Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week, Toronto Fashion Week, Miami Swim Week, and many more. From organizing one of the first-ever live streams at Karl Lagerfeld’s nomination for an award at NYU to working with the award-winning television network Cinémoi, Chambers is constantly traveling around the world to find and create new content for her viewers.

Q: What fashion content are you the proudest of? A: I’d have to say the time I live-streamed Karl Lagerfeld when he accepted an award from NYU. This was back in the day when live streaming was barely a twinkle in social media’s eye, so it was pretty exciting to be involved in something like that. And also, to meet Karl, of course! Let’s

Q: What are some challenges you have faced in sharing your content with the world? A: Let’s talk about wifi issues! If there is ever an issue with wifi, my whole world is in disarray. I’m so grateful for the hotspot on my phone. It even worked in the middle of the Mongolian steppes! Q: What role does social media play in your business? A: Social media is beyond vital for my business. I always explain to people that social media is a tool, just like a hammer, you can use it to break things or build things. I like to use it to build relationships, events, contact lists, you name it, for my clients and myself. I will say that instead of getting lost in hours of content consumption, however, it is wise to have a strategy when it comes to scrolling through your feed so you don’t waste too much time. Q: Where do you see your company five years from now? A: I definitely see India in the future. There are so many exciting things going on in that part of the world. I also have Nigeria on my radar along with many other exciting places! The keyword is definitely expansion! Q: What luxury fashion brands have you provided video exposure for? A: First and foremost, for the luxury fashion and lifestyle network, Cinémoi. I have also had the pleasure of working with many designers during fashion week including Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Armani, and lest I forget all of the PR legends at PMK, EMC Bowrey and more. I have even scouted fashion trends for the global trend forecasting company, Fashion Snoops.

Then once the new year rolls in there are all of the Awards shows, then comes Fashion Week, Coachella, it never ends.

Q: What are some of your fashion traveling experiences? A: Most recently I had the great honor of interviewing fashion designers in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It was so inspiring to see how passionate Aigerim Akenova of Kazakhstan was about designing sustainably for her brand Aiken and how hard the ladies behind Rano Klicheva work to stay ahead in the booming Uzbek economy. For this reason, she uses her phone voice recorder and note pad to capture all her random musical ideas. She can be walking down the street and coming up with cool lyrics. For her, this is a lot of fun! Currently, she is working on her new songs which is a lot of hard work. Also, she is working on her visual concepts and ideas for her new music video. She also has to complete the choreography for the video so that she can dance. Even though the choreography will be challenging, this is all very exciting fo her. When asked who her musical influences were she stated that she was very much influenced by music icon, Ed Sheeran a person she feels knows how to write a good song. Also on her list is, Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Rihanna, and, she doesn’t really didn’t want to say this but she absolutely loves Taylor Swift. Ksenia feels that now is the time to release her music to the world! With a good social media marketing campaign, she knows that she can reach her audience and doesn’t have to be signed to a major record label. For Ksenia, this is the best time ever to be an independent artist. After listening to her well thought out lyrics and music, I’m sure you will agree that Ksenia is going to be a huge success! MELANIE MERINEY “Pittsburgh girl with a Nashville soul” Singer & Songwriter

In this endless modern-day sea of new music artists, you always wonder who will be the next artist to stand out amongst them all. Melanie Meriney is that one! Her pop country music vibe is very polished and sucks you in from start to finish. Meriney considers her style to be urban country pop! Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, she became influenced by a lot of rock, hip/hop, and pop music. However, her mother always played country radio around the house, so she fell in love with the lyrics and the stories that country music provides.

had the coolest job in the world. The next day, she had her mother sign her up for voice lessons and never looked back. By the time Melanie was 18, she relocated to Nashville and by 2011 she released her first EP All The Good Songs, and in 2013 Melainey Meriney was nominated for Nashville’s Independent Music Award for Best Female Country Artist. Since then Melanie has released a host of other singles which you can listen to at the end of this article. Today Melanie has performed in many venues and opened up for some big-name artists. Playing mostly in Nashville, except during the summer plays festivals and other full band shows out of town. cessibility of the Internet allows anyone and everyone to put music out there, making it more difficult to set yourself apart. However, for the most part, it’s awesome to be able to reach people all around the world with the prevalence of social media and distribution sites. It puts the marketing power more in the artist’s hands, and in this way, I’m able to connect more personally and meaningfully to my fans”. Q: Who are your musical icons and influences today? A: Shania Twain is my ultimate musical icon- she has such a unique sound and is inspiring in all the hurdles she has overcome to get to be the superstar she is. Lately, I have been listening to a ton to Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Fleetwood Mac, Danielle Bradbery, and Dan & Shay. Q: Which songs do you perform the most and do you include any covers during your live performances? A: Most of my performances are primarily original song sets with a few covers thrown in occasion-

ally. While I love and appreciate other artists’ music, I always feel like I best represent myself as an artist/writer with my songs. I always end up playing my current releases most- this past year, it’s been the songs off of my “Up In Lights” EP! Q: What advice do you have for other singers and songwriters? A: Don’t let anyone tell you who you are. It’s easy to be swayed by trends or pressure from higherups in the business. But after taking a few years to hone in on who I am as an artist, I can say with confidence that being a unique individual with your own message is going to get you further than being a less authentic copy of someone or something else. Q: What other hidden talents do you have? A: I can skate! I played AAA travel ice hockey growing up and throughout high school. I only stopped when I moved to Nashville. Singing and songwriting are my true passions, but ice hockey has always had a special place in my heart. Being from Pittsburgh, I’m a huge Penguins fan!

Q: How long have you entertained people for a living? A: For about 8 years Q: Who or where do you get your motivation from? A: I mostly get my motivation from other artists, seeing other people work on their craft every day makes me wanna do the same and achieve more in my career. Q: What are you currently working on? A: I just finished 2 of my new tracks and looking forward to releasing them soon, also have a couple of exciting events ahead! Q: How large is your fan base? A: I have fans pretty much from all over the world. When I go visit any country, I go to meet someone who has already known me from social media which is super cool. Q: Where do you see yourself in the next 2 years? A: In the next 2 years I see myself touring the world more and performing in many different countries that I’ve never been to before. Q: What do you like the most about what you do? A: I love music and being able to share my music with the world. This is the biggest gift I could ever ask for. Also, I love to DJ for big crowds, the energy you get from hundreds of people is something else!

Q: What are your favorite cities and countries to visit?

162

DJ Eliza May

A: I’m from Russia, and Russia is and always will be my favorite country. But I love traveling, and I am very excited about any country I have the privilege to visit. The last 2 countries I have DJ’d in were Bahrain and Oman which I enjoyed a lot. Next month I’m traveling to Taiwan for the first time, I can’t wait! Every country has something interesting to offer and I have so many more on my list to visit! Q: What advice would you give other similar DJ’s? A: Keep working towards your goals and improve your skills every single day even when you are not in the mood for it or too tired. If you give your craft enough of your time, efforts, and energy you’ll see the results you desire. Q: How do you start the day before work? A: I start every day from shower and breakfast. Never skipped breakfast in my life, I’m a huge foodie and without that first meal my whole day would be ruined, lol. Q: Do you demand a lot from yourself? If so, please give an example. A: I don’t know if that’s a lot but I am trying to stay on top of my game and spend time not just on perfecting my skills and making new music but also on taking care of my health and look. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading books, enjoying small things in life like walks on the beach, good food, or enjoying an interesting movie. Q: What is the most enjoyable experience you have had as a DJ?

163

164

A: Seeing new places and meeting new people is a very enjoyable part of my work. Also, the feedback from people after my sets about how they liked it and how my music made them feel always makes me happy. Q: How many Instagram followers do you have? A: 51K at the moment. Q: How important is social media to you? A: It is an important platform for sharing your craft with people. I think it’s amazing that through social media many people from other countries I’ve never been to can hear my music and see my videos without me traveling there. Q: Do you have any other hidden talents that not too many people know about? A: I used to be a pretty good piano player but haven’t been playing for a long time now. I also swim well and love baking. Q: What would you like everyone to know about you the most? A: I’m just a girl who follows her dreams and works hard to achieve her goals. I’m grateful to be where I am right now but I have so much more to do and not going to give up no matter how hard my road will be. We look forward to hearing DJ Eliza May during her next performance.

Q: What other hidden talents do you have?

A: I’m also a dancer. I’ve been danc-

Q: What do you think distinguishes a professional model from an inexperienced one?

A: Apart from knowing better how to

pose, or what is flattering, etc. a professional model knows better her worth and doesn’t let people take advantage of her.

Q: What do you look for in a good make-up artist?

A: The makeup artist is KEY!! I’ve been in many situations where the makeup artist was so bad, they can destroy your shoot. Many times I prefer to do my own makeup. But a good one can make you look so much better!

already changing. Opportunities for all shapes, colors, ages, and conditions. Another thing I’d change is what is called, “Callback and Avail”. When you go to a casting, the only one in the room is the person who does the casting or the casting director. If they like you most times they call you for a second audition called Callback. In this one, they bring the producers, etc. If they like you, they call you to put you on Avail, which means they are deciding between you and 2 or 3 other girls and they want you to hold certain days and not take any jobs, go out of town, etc. I find this unnecessary and disrespectful. Why can’t the producers come to the first audition? I understand that they are busy, but we are too and going to auditions, getting ready and driving for hours across town takes our whole day. Then they want you to put those days on hold, just in case they want to hire you. Can’t they make up their mind from the begging?? And if there is a reason why they can’t decide yet, then they should pay you if they are asking you to reject other opportunities or put your life on hold. This is something we should all flight for. Keep on the lookout for Silvia Kal!
