The EBKC, yeah, that’s right… The (E)BKC. Otherwise better known as the European Bully Kennel Club, founded in 2008 by Andrea Selvaggi, some of you might know him as 'Dre' from Corleone Kennels who brought the first American Bully to Europe. Andrea is also co-founder of the IBKC (International Bully Kennel Club) together with Guillermo 'Memo' Ocampo from the OG Double SS Kennels. Over the years a strong necessity of giving Europe its very own 'European-born' organization that recognizes and gives credibility to the American Bully Breed in every European Member State, in order to promote it and protect it by all means necessary, was the inception of the European Bully Kennel Club. As many of us in the bully breed community know, putting together a sanctioned show can be a very hard and tedious process. But just imagine having to put together a registry? From scratch, not for a country… But for a continent. For someone like Andrea who is an articulate man, the quest to bring bully perfection to his homeland Europe started when he was introduced to the American 'Bully style' Pitbull by non other than Mike Gallo of Devil’s Den. Andrea was not only impressed, but intrigued at what he could do 'for' and 'with' the breed as far as revolutionizing the whole outlook of the movement right from his own territory. “In Europe at that time, the dogs we had were classic American Pit Bull Terriers, lines like Chinaman, Colby Et Etc.”Never had this side of the world seen Dogs with those heavy-built frames, massive heads and thick bone structures. After being introduced to this style of dog, Andrea got heavily involved in the U.S. bully community when it was still in its infancy. he lent a hand to some of the well-known forefathers of the breed, such as Dave Wilson to help him and the Elite Edge push the new terminology at the time for this type of dog 'The American Bully'. Andrea was also the first to judge the first ABKC Super Bully Show in Thailand.
He was the first-non American judge to fly to a foreign continent and represent for the American Bully. In 2008, he felt that there wasn’t enough attention and awareness of the breed in Europe. In 2010 the 'EBKC' held its first show in the Netherlands, as it was one of the largest of bully communities at the time. Since then over 25 shows have been thrown by the EBKC, that number might be small for the USA but for Europe its very high. All shows where paid from their pockets without sponsors, not even allowing the public to sanction shows. Andrea stated that “For a registry that was fairly new and built upon strong standards, it just wasn’t an option and they must keep the integrity of the breed alive at all costs.” He went on to say “any Tom or Dick can get a show sanctioned, but do they really know what they’re doing? Do they really know the breed? Can they really deliver… A show?” “The EBKC was founded to be unbiased and balanced and not become a tool for a few individuals to host their owns shows and chase their own points. We throw each show like it is an International Main Event'. In the years to come the EBKC took a stand where other registries have not, such as every dog registered with the EBKC receives individual inspection to insure breed standard applies, mandatory microchipping as applicable by European Law and giving value to the EBKC documentation, recognizing & registering American Pitbull Terriers and educating the public on how they are differentiated from American Bully Breed. In our interview with Andrea we asked him what his goals were for the EBKC, he went on to say that his goal for the EBKC is to have far more shows and do with the Bully breed what Europeans have done with other breeds in the past… Refine and restructure. We had a chance to look inside one of the EBKC’s shows and were absolutely amazed at the diversity. Different nationalities that come together like Dutch, French, Italian, German, Russian, all together for the breed. People getting along together like a true international event. bree “IBKC is a spawn of the hard work i have done with the EBKC” says Andrea who established his kennel ‘Corleone Kennels’ back in 1998. The IBKC which also has a very strong following in Mexico, Dubai and South Africa as well seems to be on the same path as the EBKC. As registries seem to evolve, the Bully breed and community seem to have come a long way, evolution is really a main key to relevancy and respect. We applaud the EBKC for trailblazing and remaining consistent in their efforts for this breed and we see a bright future for them!
5 BULLY BREEDS: ENGLISH BULLDOG By Keeping It Bully Magazine (Sourced by Dog Breed Info Center)
DESCRIPTION
The English Bulldog is a wide, medium-sized, compact dog with short legs. The body and head are massive with extra skin on both the skull and forehead falling in folds. The cheeks extend to the sides of the eyes. The muzzle is wide, short and pug with a broad, deep stop. The black nose is broad with large nostrils. The dark eyes are deep set. The rose ears are small, thin and set high on the head. The jaws are massive, very broad, and square with hanging upper lips. The teeth should have an under bite. The tail is either straight or screwed and carried low. The short, flat coat is straight, smooth and glossy. Coat colors include red brindle and other shades of brindle, solid white, solid red, fawn, fallow, piebald, pale yellow or washed-out red or white or a combination of these colors.
HEIGHT & WEIGHT
Height: about 12 - 16 inches (31 - 40 cm) (there is no prescribed height, but shorter Bulldogs are more prized when being shown) Weight: Males 53 - 55 pounds (24 – 25 kg) Females 49 - 51 pounds (22 – 23 kg)
TEMPERAMENT
Although the English Bulldog’s appearance can be somewhat intimidating, it is among the gentlest of dogs. Just the same it will see off any intruder, and few would risk a close encounter with a dog brave enough to bait a bull. It is described as a very affectionate and dependable animal, gentle with children, but known for its courage and its excellent guarding abilities. Bullheaded and determined, this breed can be very persistent. They do not give up easily. Bulldogs are very much a people’s dog, seeking out human attention and loving every bit it can get!! A lot of human attention is required for the breed's happiness. Some English Bulldogs can be a bit dominating and need an owner who knows how to display strong leadership and understands alpha canine behavior. A Bulldog who understands its place in the human pack is nice to, and reliable with all people. This breed is good with family pets, but some can be combative with strange dogs if they do not see themselves as followers in their pack. When Bulldogs are young, they are full of energy, but slow down as they get older. They snore very loudly, most have drool and slobber tendencies and are messy eaters. Bulldogs that display guarding behaviors, such as guarding furniture, food, toys, or other spots in the house, or that are dog aggressive do not have humans who are being the dog’s pack leader. This behavior only happens when dogs are allowed to take over. These behaviors can be corrected when the owners start displaying the proper leadership. Dogs that feel they need to run the home are not as happy as dogs that know they are human fol lowers, as it is very stressful for a dog to need to keep "his" humans in line.
MARVELOUS
MR. MARVELOUS Double D’s Bully Style Pits was founded by Alex Ferraro in 2009. Located in Peoria, Illinois, Double D’s is the home of ABKC Extreme Champion Mr. Marvelous. Alex’s interest in the American Bully breed came from its similarity to the American Pit Bull Terrier. He was intrigued by the American Bully’s greater mass, bone, and all around calmer temperament. As a dedicated family man, Alex felt that finding this breed was a dream come true. The American Bully very best in appearance and temperament. combines the ve As Alex’s knowledge and experience increased, he began to develop a vision for a very specific American Bully look. He admired dogs such as Mikeland Kennel’s “Nitro" and Goochland Pits’ “Mr.Gucciano”. This very blood he had grown to love led him directly into the show ring, a passion that continues today. In 2011 Alex founded a show group called “Atomic Bullyz Midwest” that currently includes 7 kennels with 12 American Bully Champions. Alex made it very clear to us that he believes in a total package bully, not just a pedigree to turn heads. “We want a fully functional American Bully with head, neck, chest, drop, spread, topline, top skull, eye separation, angulation, mobility, and above all... temperament” says Alex. Double D’s Bully Style Pits is striving to keep their American Bullies just that, American Bullies. A strong muscular built dog that commands respect where ever they go. That being sai said, Double D’s Bully Style Pits has incorporated several bloodlines into their program, mainly Daxline, Gottyline, Hennessyline, and Razors Edge blood. But not limited to those blood lines only. We love clean extreme bullies here at KIB and one of Alex’s favorite extreme but yet clean bullies is ‘Big Poppa.’ Alex is a firm supporter of the CBM (Clean Bully Movement. ) As we spoke to Alex in depth it became clear that he’s all about supporting the bully community and most importantly he strives to produce quality American Bullies that are extreme and bully, as well as correct and mobile. “Each breeding we put together is done not just by researching pedigrees, but also looking at trait specific features making sure both the male and female complement each other from all aspects!” says Alex.
Q: Where did Extreme Champion Mr. Marvelous come from? A: Mr. Marvelous is off of Frank Lucas X Stacy Dash, a Moura Bullies production and came my way via Diamond Life Bullies Eric in California. His blood consists of 50% Gotty and 50% Razor’s Edge. Q: What are Mr. Marvelous’s best features? A: Man, that’s a tough one, i’d have to say Marvelous is an amazing boy. In person he is 16 inches tall, with a 25 inch head, 11 inch forearms, level top line, thick rear, clean bite, and tips the scale at 85-90 pounds. He has a lot to offer but the thing I love about him is that he is a mobile extreme, he can run, gate, prance, play, this dog does not get short of breath or lay down after two feet of walking. I love it, I love his mobility. Q: Where do you see yourself in the future? A: No one knows the future, but I can honestly say our future looks bright, with every show we attend we meet good people in the bully community and have been building bridges to the west coast, east coast, down south, and of course here in the midwest. Next is the international level! Both Double D’s Bully style Pits & Atomic Bullyz Midwest are here to stay. KEEP AN EYE ON US THIS YEAR!
5 BULLY BREEDS: BULL TERRIER By Keeping It Bully Magazine (Sourced by Dog Breed Info Center)
DESCRIPTION
The Bull Terrier is a strongly built, muscular dog. The body is well rounded with a short, strong back. The head is long and strong, oval-looking in shape, almost flat at the top, sloping evenly down to the nose with no stop. The nose is black. The eyes are almond-shaped, small and deep-set, dark in color. The ears are small, thin and close together. The long neck is very muscular, with robust shoulders. The tail is set low and on the short side, carried horizontally. The coat is dense, short, flat and harsh to the touch. The AKC recognizes two color varieties, the White Bull Terrier and the Colored Bull Terrier. The White Bull Terrier is allowed to have colored markings on the head, but nowhere else on the body. The Colored Bull Terriers may be black, brindle, black-brindle, red, fawn and tricolor with white markings.
HEIGHT & WEIGHT
Standard Bull Terrier Height: 20 - 24 inches (51 - 61 cm) Weight: 45 - 80 pounds (20 - 36 kg) Miniature Bull Terrier Height: 10 - 14 inches (25 - 33 cm) Weight: up to 24 - 33 pounds (11 - 15 kg)
TEMPERAMENT
Though this breed was once a fierce gladiator, he is much gentler now. A Bull Terrier might have a preventive effect and it might defend its owner in a truly critical situation, but it isn’t bred to be a guard dog. Courageous, scrappy, funloving, active, clownish, and fearless, the Bull Terrier is a loyal, polite, and obedient dog. They become very attached to their owners. The Bull Terrier thrives on firm, consistent leadership and affection and makes a fine family pet. Bull Terriers like to be doing something and fit in well with active families where they recieve a great deal of companionship and supervision. They do not do well in situations where they are left alone for 8 hours a day. With the right type of owner this breed is a joy to own, but not recommended for most households. Fond of both grownups and children, but if they do not get enough physical and mental exercise they may be too energetic for small children. Children should be taught how to display leadership toward the dog. Meek owners will find them to become very protective, willful, possessive, and/or jealous. Bull Terriers may try to join into family roughhousing or quarrel. They need very firm training and lots of exercise. Bull Terriers must be given a lot of structure, or they may become destructive. Be sure to socialize them well and remain their pack leader 100% of the time, otherwise, they can be extremely aggressive with other dogs. Unaltered males may not get along with other male dogs. They are not recommended with other non-canine pets such as rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs. They make excellent watch dogs. This breed can be somewhat difficult to train.

HEIGHT & WEIGHT

TEMPERAMENT
The Shorty Bull is a good-natured, even-tempered, stable dog. This breed needs leadership and will not thrive without it. Proper human to canine communication is essential. Very willing to please. Makes a great companion and is ready and willing to work.
ORIGIN
The founders of the Shorty Bull are Jamie Sweet and Amy Krogman. The Shorty Bull is a new line of bulldogs that are being bred in the miniature size. Unlike a lot of other bully breeds bred down in size, the Shorty Bulldog does not contain Boston Terrier or Pug in its lines. These dogs are being bred for their working ability and physical traits and not solely on looks.

The Elite Edge was in the building as well with Jonathan Rivera bringing through Masterpiece who won best of extreme in show #1. Overall winner in show #1 was Blue Force Chops of Blue Horizon, our show #2 overall winner was Trigunea (Triggy) who belongs to Johnny Rivera and is a couple wins shy from being a champion! We’d like to thank our judges Derrick Dennis and LyQuin Broadus for doing an excellent job and working through the technical difficulties. After everything was said and done our evening closed out with a beautiful sunset. We can’t wait until we see everybody at the Midwest Bully Expo 6 and maybe this time we’ll bring an umbrella or two!

GRANDSLAM BULLY BASH 5 Hey guys, Israel here with Keeping It Bully Magazine! We had a terrific time at the Grandslam Bully Bash 5. The show was very well put together and organized, all classes ran smooth. At this event we had the opportunity to not only see some of the world famous celebrity dogs, dog but we also got the chance to see an actual celebrity. NFL superstar Safety Michael Griffin was in the building showcasing some of his very own breeding stock and show dogs. I’d also like to give a shout out to Black Label Kartel, who were in full effect representing at this event. The only thing that could have been better at this event would have been 10 degrees warmer weather. This is the fifth annual Grandslam Bully Bash to date, I had the opportunity to be there for the first one and coming back after 5 years, I must say this show has lost no momentum! Some new faces, some old, but the same love is still in the air. KIB SHOW REVIEW: 2013 ABKC FINALS Hey guys, we’re coming off fresh from yet another one of the big shows here in the midwest. This time... It was the 2013 ABKC Finals. The venue for this show was a whopping sports dome in Aurora, IL! Being the last show in 2013 everyone made sure to come out and show their very best. We had appearances from The Elite Edge, Bullypedia, American Bully Dog Apparel, Team Midwest, The Empire, and many more! Among the great appearances was the one and only #1 ranked American Bully GR. CH. Beastro. Who took home Best Grand Champion to end of his year with a bang. One of the biggest highlights of the show was the generousity of The Bully Market by donating a Beastro stud credit to the Kendall County food pantry. The stud credit was then auctioned off for $1,300 alongside a kennel setup donation from Purecountry Kennels which sold for $250. A combined amount of $1,550 were raised for charity at the end of the evening. The turnout of this event was truly astonishing, with over 1,000+ people through the door. Yet again the ABKC Finals deliver and do not disappoint. All we can do is sit patiently and wait for the 2014 ABKC Finals. See you at the the next show!

KIB SHOW REVIEW: EBKC WINTER BULLY EXPO We’ve heard of many shows that’s for certain, but by far Europe seems to be the place booming for the American Bully breed right now. Ever since the introduction of the EBKC, the bully breed movement in Europe has been unstoppable! This time we cover the Winter Bully Expo. A true great experience, the amount of registered dogs was amazing and the vibe in the air was very positive. What we were highly impressed with as well were the trophies and plaques provided for the winners, all very high quality and very different from your usual bully head trophies. The Olympic Sport Centrium was the perfect facility for this event, accommodating more than 500 people and more than 200 dogs easily. Getting this one of a kind inside look into one of Europe’s premiere shows was exactly what we were looking for. We’d like to thank Andrea Selvaggi for the experience, hospitality, and opportunity to be able to bring this to our supporters. This won’t be the last of our Europe show coverage! You’ll see much more from KIB and Europe in the near future. Who knows? Maybe even a show or two!
