ACADEMIC WORK Le Joyau du Liban, Beirut, Lebanon Tutored by : Ar. Qhawarizmi Norhisham Bakhtiar Amir
A year has passed since the horrific Beirut blasts, Lebanon has become a living nightmare of surreal proportions. With recent economic recessions, lack of international funding & aid, political turmoil, sanctions and a pandemic crisis, Beirut is at the very heart of grave danger to losing its status as a city of cultural and art importance. With thousands of artists migrating out of Lebanon in search of a better life, this study concentrates on a few key points that would lead to a hub that will re-welcome artists and lovers of culture. This creates an opportunity to relate the lost Archi-tectonics of Beirut with its endangered Art and Culture. As basis to begin permutations to find an architectural narrative, this study uses data from the blast zone such as the particles of movement and node of explosion, to remind us of the unconscious life before and the consequences of ill-diligence.

The Dancer and The Space Fluid Movements Contemporary (ballet and modern) and traditional dances (dabkah) of Lebanon consists of fluid movements and rhythmic steps. These various types of movements can be compared to the organic motions of water. To reflect on this thought, fluid masses are then manipulated to mimic these revolutions.
Materiality These fluid masses require the interpolation of parametric forms, a combination of eye-catching and of ocular-flexible materials. This leads to the application of metal space frames and glass panelling. This also reflects the nature of the port’s materiality which mostly includes metal-based structures.
Lebanese Facade Patterns To create the skin of architecture that would allow similar atmospheric nature of a bazaar, patterns that are found in lebanese traditional houses are used. Through different permutations, these patterns would make up the facade. These included the manipulations of famous patterns found in Mashrabiyas.
The Warp Spaces should reflect the nature of their users. As the dancers practice, they are surrounded by a vortex like space that flow and twist to mimic their movements. The layering of panels follow the revolutions (orbitals) of the dancers to further immerse the users into their actions and perambulation.

ACADEMIC WORK Kwong Tong Cemetery Funeral Parlour Services, Malaysia Tutored by : James Lim Chin Wai
CITY X CEMETERY The aim of this project is to utilise architectural phenomenology as a mean to positively manipulates its user’s experience in urban cemeteries, and that it is vital for the advancement of an urban context. Linkage to this urban cemetery space is for the benefit of all, regardless of race or faith as a kind reminder that death favors none and that to that oblivion will we return to at the very end. This project explores many writings, experimentations and case study observations of similar sites around the world, as part of an initiative to boost social interactions with the heritage cemetery park, and also create awareness or education to remove stigma or taboo. Since the site is located in the heart of the city, it is imperative that we intergrate it within the urban fabric as a usable space and green lung.
The Architecture of Death within the Urban Fabric In architecture terms, memory is the recollection of the atmosphere of a space. To evoke such memories, spatial qualities would have to include the manipulation of a space to be picked up by the 5 human senses. In such a manner, certain emotions would trigger the recollection of a memory.
A sense of place The memories recollected in the site are those of our past and history. What memories make up for Kwong Tong Cemetery? What other purposes have Kwong Tong served for the users around? This section discusses the existing routes used within and around Kwong Tong Cemetery, and how to better connect its users. By understanding the importance of Kwong Tong as part of the Urban fabric, then only can we move towards utilising it more than just a space of death and utilitiy, but rather a space that celebrate life and congregation. The memories recollected in the site are those of our past and history. Regardless of race and of origin, all of KL’s inhabitants are tied historically to the Kwong Tong Cemetery since it is the final resting place of the founder of Kuala Lumpur, Kapitan Yap Ah Loy as a collective memory. Individual memories are seen in the daily funeral rites carried out at the site with the large collection of individual graves and collabriums. Translated Landscapes Translated Landscapes as explained by Christopher Schulz in Genius Loci, are both the essences of the landscapes and the manmade structures that have shaped the landscape. In this case, the Kwong Tong cemetery is filled with thousands of tombs that make up its contour and serves as the inspiration for later design strategies. This is also where the axis of the tombs found in Kwong Tong Cemetery are reflected against the Contour Lines.
