Our instructors are true water professionals and our updated training materials cover the practical skills you need to do your job well and keep up with your certifi cation.

T he Georgia State Board of Examiners approves all courses for the Certifi cation of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Laboratory Analysts for basic training, advanced training, and recertifi cation points.

JIM POFF Jim entered the water profession while attending college at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. His fi rst water job was working summer months as a lab analyst for Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District at the Jones Island Water Quality Laboratory. During his time there, he had the opportunity to take part in water quality monitoring activities on Lake Michigan and several rivers in the area. There was no turning back after those experiences. After college, he moved to Georgia for a position as a Chemist with the Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA). During his career at CCWA, he served in many diff erent roles experiencing/ managing all operational aspects of a top-notch water utility. Upon retiring from the Assistant General Manager position in 2018, he accepted a position with GWWI. He is currently serving as the GWWI Manager & Senior Instructor.

SKYLAR LIPSON Skylar entered the water and wastewater fi eld as an operator overseeing a rural water district in his hometown in Kansas. In his experience, he has overseen nearly all levels of water and wastewater treatment including private management, compliance monitoring, and daily process control. Currently Skylar holds every available water and wastewater license that is issued in Georgia (Water & Wastewater Class 1, Industrial Wastewater, Collections, Distribution, Water & Wastewater Lab), as well as licenses in South Carolina, Mississippi, Kansas, Alabama, GAWP Maintenance Technologist Class 1 and a level three Professional Operator in water. Skylar is currently the maintenance program director for GAWP and a training specialist with GWWI.

RICK WILSON Since 2009, Rick has been in the water and wastewater industry, where he was formally trained under Denny Ivey with Environmental Labs and Services. His experience has ranged from collecting potable water samples on commercial airliners to setting up BOD for the City of Carrollton WWTP. Since March 2018, he has been the lead instructor for water/wastewater laboratory and wastewater for operators at the Georgia Water & Wastewater Institute. Rick graduated from the University of West Georgia and currently holds a Georgia wastewater Class 1 operator license, a Georgia Class 3 water operator license, dual certifi cation in water and wastewater laboratory for analysts, as well as an ABC grade 2 wastewater laboratory license.
