I can’t believe this is the tenth year we have had the privi lege of putting on the Western Exposure. It is always a lot of work, beginning in April, and especially during the fall to get everything ready. I truly look forward to every second I get to spend in Iowa. I honestly think of Iowa, and the people I deal with out there, as my second home and family. I great ly enjoy and appreciate the friendships I have been able to develop during my time in God’s country.
I truly believe we have improved the cattle every year and one will truly be impressed with the quality from top to bottom. Our philosophy is rather simple around here: we focus on raising cattle that are versatile for all mar kets. I don’t think you ever want to chase one trait or one market. Eventually, the winds will shift and one will be left standing at the altar of a dead market. We strive to market a female that can be bred multiple ways and click mated to many different sires.
Out here, in the Wild West, it takes a different animal to survive. One can’t understand until they have seen the country were we run our cattle. Not only do they have to raise a marketable calf, the cattle have to deal with predators, fires, drought and work hard to find grass at times; the majority of these fe males were raised in these conditions and know how to survive. I truly believe that is why they are received so well in the Midwest. These cattle know how to clock in and clock out everyday! Nothing pleases us
Feel free to call whenever to talk about cattle. I am proud of this group. No, they aren’t fluffed up, super clean, and clipped for a show, but they are honest. They have never had a bath and trust that policy won’t be changing around here. We don’t have time to baby these things. They are in their working clothes and ready to go to work. They will only look better once they make it to their new home. Thank you for the interest and we look forward to see everyone in Dunlap on January 7th.
- Trevor Roche
Welcome to the 10th annual exposure. A very versatile and maternal set of bred heifers we bring to you. You will see in person these heifers style, power and look not only stems from the sire but the cows behind them. OWN THE FACTORY! Each year I get calls after these heifers calve and many have heifer calves. If you can’t make it to the sale, please call and I will give an honest opinion on any of them or I will put you in contact with a sale rep. See ya Saturday January 7th in DUNLAP, IOWA!

I have been a faithful follower of the Faber program for about 10 years. I took a sip of the Kool-Aid 10 years ago and I’ve been sucking it down ever since. 10 out of 10 times if you walk into a room with Dr. Faber and me, he will be the smartest guy in the room. I pick his brain a lot and he has been a great help. I think he feels sorry for me and my six hungry kids! I have put a lot of faith in Faber’s Chantel donor, but the Maximus donor has been almost as successful. If you ask me, she’s the Scottie Pippen to Michael Jordan. Both are Hall of Famers, and this was my top pick from his heifer calves last year. I know there are plenty of Simmentals in the world, (we need more like we need more lawyers) however, I feel like this Pays to Believe daughter can do many different things. I think she can easily raise steers with her moderate size, sound feet, legs, and great hair. I also believe she can raise great percentage females or even bulls at the commercial level. About the only thing this thing can’t do is make you a grilled cheese sandwich because she’s that good. Clean by pedigree.
Lot 2 is very similar to her half-sister with a great profile, hair coat and balance. Not quite as powerful as lot 1, but Onset will do that to a guy. This gal is simply beautiful from all angles. Breed her to some freaky club calf sire and I’m sure you will land right in the middle, or keep her maternal and enjoy the drop dead gorgeous females. THF

I’m not going to say he’s the next great In God We Trust son, but he does have the best name with today’s woke cancer culture society. He is TH Free with a black nose and awesome hair. Can we all just agree that modern-day Angus suck? They have nothing to them but hair and belly, which, last I heard, does not convert well other than at an IVF Center where a recipient can raise their calves. They have gone way too far and are trying to come back, but I’m afraid everything’s so closely related the show ring needs an out-cross badly. Here is an Angus female I got from my good buddy and neighbor, Bobby Lax. He’s just down the street and still lives in the good old days of power and look, like an Angus should have. This female is my type. She has power, pedigree and papers. I like his cattle so much I bought his Lot 1 this year as a future donor for myself. THF

Isn’t that awesome how we are all responsible for the things people did 200 years ago but nobody will take responsibility for their personal problems today? It’s always someone else’s fault for the way they act or conduct themselves. Well, this heifer is the way she is because of me. I did a horrible job torching her and I should have taken my time. Her top line looks like I took a weed eater to it. She is a beautiful Red Angus, and they are getting hotter by the day. She is an embryo calf out of our lead Red Angus donor back home. Now that the cattlemen have John Fetterman on their side, I’m sure we are going to see a huge price change and a breakup of the big four meat packers. If there’s anyone that could do it, I have my faith in the guy that can’t form full sentences nor decipher a question. How big of turd was Dr. Oz that he couldn’t beat the guy that literally can’t speak coherently? It’s just sad who we send to Washington these days. Pretty soon I’ll be in there and you will all know the end of Western Civilization is near. Both sides are disgusting and I’m sure our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves. The best thing you can do to distract yourself during times like these is purchase a Hereford female. She will bring you more problems than you can ever imagine and at the same time, lick your hand. She was going to be a show heifer for my little girl but she has a father that hates showing cattle. He loves to sell them, but despises showing them. We never haltered her and she ran with the rest in the high country this summer. She’s about as pretty as they come for a Hereford and certainly one that deserves a second look. The Hereford gene is strong in this one. I am pretty sure her cognitive score would be about the same as Fetterman. THF

I’m not a great trendsetter but I am a really good copycat. The last few years there have been some very successful Deja Vu cows raising some of the top sires and steers across the country. These things are like three peas in a pod, and you can pick which one you like the best but one thing’s for sure they will return on your money. I grew up around Saler cattle, I know exactly how they feel. There was nothing worse than sorting cows with my dad and having a mix-up and hearing him say, “Stop them!” as they come running 48 mph towards me. That was like asking the Dunlap JV football team to stop the Tennessee Titans with Derrick Henry at the goal line. Once they were moving one direction they were not stopping. After looking at these videos it might be confirmed that I am the worst at sale prep. I clipped and torched these by myself over three days and by the time I was done you could have offered me another cow to clip or a cliff to jump off. I would have been swan diving during my free fall. Things are a little ranchy out here compared to the usual Midwest presentation. Nobody has seen a bath or a blower. They are what they are, and I think the industry is starting to appreciate that. Don’t get me wrong, I wish they all looked like dialed-in show heifers, but they don’t. I certainly could have done a better job with this one. But she is in her working clothes and one of the better females in the sale. Even dirty and covered in crap I could use this one all day. Super long-sided, yet big middled, which is hard to come by in a rocket front end. Not tested.

Duke is a full sib to Equity. Equity is currently in the Hartman bull battery and doing a great job. Duke is like Stephen Baldwin and Equity is Alec Baldwin. Although brothers, one is obviously more famous, but I would have to say the other is a better actor and hasn’t shot anyone. Some of the best females we have sold in Dunlap were Duke daughters. This is another prime example. She is out of a great donor cow that has landed females in the homes of David Faber, Bob May and Ward Eckloff. It wouldn’t be bad to join that group unless you were picking a basketball team. Clean by pedigree.

What is a woman? Such a difficult question to answer into today’s society. If you’re the newest Supreme Court Justice, your answer would be, “I don’t know.” If you’re a woke liberal, there are 30 different definitions, but you will not allow anyone to be defined by any of the above definitions that you previously stated. But if you’re a true cattleman that understands what produces and generates, this is what we are looking for. Anything out of the 752 Driver donor will work. She sold in the sale about seven years ago but had a bull calf instead of a sexed heifer calf. The buyer thought I lied to him, so I bought her back and she’s generated over $100K. How’s that for Karma?!

Don’t you love all the May heifers that are being born in the world now? Granted, there are probably a few out there, but let’s be honest. One of the great Achilles heels of the cattle industry is our inability to collect and submit honest data. The dairy industry does an impeccable job with this, and they are making true advancement extremely rapidly. We, on the other hand, are fibbing about our weaning weights to sell a bull to our neighbor. If you want a perfect example of genetic advancement, I will use the weaning weights from my dad’s commercial cowherd he ran on the Winecup Ranch in Northern Nevada. The first year he weaned his calves off the cow at 625 lbs. After 20 years of intense genetic selection (aka buying middle of the road bulls from everywhere) the calves sold at 435lbs and weaned 45 days. I don’t know if we are improving! This heifer is a true May, and she is obviously not as big as the others, but she is as cute as a button. She’s out of the donor cow selling as Lot 119. I have all the faith in the world that this girl will produce checks. Now, if you will be able to cash them is another question. Go talk to your local HVAC, contractor, landscaper, beauty salon owner or car dealer, and tell them you want their product or service at zero percent interest and in six months you will (hopefully) pay them. They will look at you the same as your grandparents would look at a Berkeley professor explaining the numerous genders. Don’t worry though, you can always ease their nerves with writing a check they can’t cash. That always smooths everything over. Not sure how the Simmental association will handle this one, but she is a true half-blood. Not very often will you find a white half-blood, but I think this one bred to a red and white bull would make awesome 3/4 yellow Simmentals. Looks like Matt Rhule is going to be the last victim to the impossible expectations of the Nebraska fan base. I don’t know how many Memorial Stadium can hold, but I know it’s north of 90K. Rhule basically married into a family with 90,000 mothers-in-law. They will love him during the six months of the honeymoon phase, but once the first loss comes, the mumbling will begin. I honestly hope he does turn the program around. It’s better when Nebraska is at the top of the heap. Till then, I will keep talking my trash. Plus, I only have about nine months to do so before BYU enters the Big 12 and gets their teeth kicked in. I’m afraid the only thing we will be competitive in is scriptural Jeopardy, but even Baylor may give us a run for our money there. This Broker female originated in Nebraska. I bought her when Bill Withers sold out about three years ago. He had a beautiful set of cows and I probably should have bought them all. Very maternal with growth and the ability to survive. Her Here I Am should be awesome with the amount of belly and softness she possesses. She sold a $5,500 bull last year in my bull sale. Clean by pedigree.

Colyers are known for their awesome Herefords (if there is such a thing). They also have some awesome Angus. They are obviously out shined by the Herefords and their reputation, but Kyle knows how to breed them whether it’s a Hereford, Angus or a Zebu. It wouldn’t take him long to have the best of any breed. This Angus donor raised a $20,000 heifer calf in her first shot that sold at Hartman’s and has raised multiple high selling bulls for my sale. Here is the opportunity of a lifetime for the cowman wanting to make the neighbors jealous. “Tude” is a purebred Border Collie that is completely trained. He has every command needed to make your buddies more envious then 500-bushel corn. He has a perfect bye, away to me, down, walk up, and will listen to anyone. He is the real deal. Take all the credit that you trained him, or tell the neighbors you found him but guaranteed he will be talk of the town once they see his handle. Fire the worthless hired man that lies on his hours and buy this dog. You will never regret it!

First of all, I want to thank Trevor for this bear hunt. We went to North Central Idaho with Jay Roche and two other guides. Between their stories - some true, and some I’m not so sure about - and the scenic country, it was quite the experience! Trevor calls it “God’s Country,” but I’m not sure about that.
We hunted with dogs that had GPS collars, across creeks, rocks, trees, snow and other obstacles. At one point, the bear was 12 miles away from us and circled back and ended up 1.2 miles away. The dogs treed him, thank heavens, because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to walk 12 miles in the mountains to shoot him. The hospitality Jay showed us was second to none. Besides wrecking two four-wheelers and tearing the front end out of one pick-up, everyone came back in one piece with lots of pictures and stories.
I could go on and on about this hunting trip, but Trevor said to keep it short! Thanks again, Trevor, for one hell of an adventure.

Over the past few years we have placed thousands of frozen embryos from numerous producers across the United States. We noticed a great range of conception rates and quickly realized we needed to do quality control. In 2022 we built our own in-house, IVF Center where we are able to aspirate and use our own in house lab and technicians to provide a quality consistent collection. Conception rates reign supreme in the embryo transfer game. By eliminating variables and inconsistencies we are able to provide our customers with a consistent conception rate making embryo transfer a profitable venture.
