Welcome to Chundy Land and Cattle’s 9th Annual Maternal Performance Bull Sale. I hope this message finds you in good health and excited about the current cattle markets. We are excited to announce that our sale will be held at Ogallala Livestock Auction Market this year. The sale will begin at 2 p.m. Mountain Time. We understand that change can bring challenges. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of us.
We take great pride in offering Maternal Performance genetics, where we believe true performance starts with the cow. Our genetics are designed to strike a perfect balance between strong maternal traits and excellent calf performance. Coming from a commercial background, we understand that selling pounds at weaning time is how we earn a living. Additionally, it is crucial that our cows breed back and have increased longevity. We are committed to providing you with animals that meet your needs and exceed your expectations.
The bulls have been DNA parentage verified and have enhanced EPDs. We will post ultrasound data, updates,
and the sale order on our website and Facebook page. If you have any questions, feel free to call or text us. As in previous years, we’ll offer a first breeding season guarantee, and all bulls will have passed a semen test prior to the sale. We will continue to winter the bulls until late April, when we will begin delivery. If you need your bull earlier, just let us know on sale day.

Cattle will sell under the Terms and Conditions recommended by the American Angus Association. The terms of the sale are cash. All settlements must be made at the close of the auction. Any disputes as to bids shall be settled by the auctioneer, whose decision shall be final and shall bind purchases to the announcement of the sale and sale price.

BreeDing guArAntee
All bulls selling for $3,500 or more will be guaranteed for the first breeding season. The breeding season is defined as the 90 days following bull turn out. 100% of the purchase value minus the salvage value of $2,000 will be given as credit toward next year’s sale or a replacement bull if one is available. Should a bull be injured, Chundy Land & Cattle needs to be contacted immediately and bulls must be diagnosed by a veterinarian. All claims need to be submitted by September 1, 2025.
Wintering AnD Delivery
All bulls will be available to be picked up sale day and a $50 credit per bull will be applied. All bulls will be cared for free of charge until April 30, 2025, after that a $5.00 a day per bull will be charged. We will deliver all bulls free of charge within a 300 mile radius of Imperial, Nebraska. We will start delivering bulls at the end of April.

All bulls are on a complete health program and bulls are certified virgin bulls. The bulls have been vaccinated and dewormed and have tested negative for BVD PI. All bulls have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam unless they were too young to test. These bulls will be noted on sale day as such. All bulls will be guaranteed fertile before you turn out. Interstate health papers will be furnished on all bulls. Scrotal measurements will be available by sale day. Herd health and BSE is performed by Dr. Troy Worth of Veterinary Services (308) 8824838.

Bulls will be available for viewing at the ranch anytime. Directions to the ranch from Imperial, NE; take the Spur highway 15A west out of Imperial to Champion. Turn west on Road 734. Continue on for 7 miles and turn South on Avenue 320. Take 320 south for 7 ½ miles and the driveway is on the west side of the road marked with a Chundy Land and Cattle sign. The bulls will also be available March 13, 14, and 15 at Ogallala Auction Market.

American Angus & American Simmental EPDs Definitions
Calving ease direCt (Ced)(Ce), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in firstcalf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
birth weight epd (bw), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
weaning weight epd (ww), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling weight epd (Yw), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Maternal Milk epd (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.
Marbling epd (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
ribeYe area epd (re), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Genomic Testing & Genomic Enhanced EPDs
AmericAn Angus AssociAtion genomic enhAnced ePds
Genomic results are a way to enhance predictability of current selection tools, to achieve more accuracy on EPDs for younger animals, and to characterize genetics for traits where it’s difficult to measure the animal’s own performance for the trait, such as carcass traits in breeding stock or maternal traits in bulls. With the investment in genomic technology, this means that in addition to the pedigree, performance and progeny information that are used in the calculation and reporting of Angus EPDs, genomic test results have also been incorporated into the EPD.
Genomic-enhanced EPDs (GE-EPDs) are important because they make use of the results from the DNA test in addition to all other sources of information to provide added accuracy and reliability to the animal’s EPD. In fact, depending on the trait, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they had already sired 8-20 calves.
*It is important to note that genomics do not completely describe the variation in the traits of interest. Phenotypic measures collected by Angus breeders, such as birth, weaning, and yearling weights, ultrasound scan data, carcass data, etc., continue to be an important part in further development of improved genomic panels, not to mention an important component in EPD calculation.
how Are genomic test results rePorted?
The results of genomic testing are provided in percentile rankings, based on a reference population of more than 15,000 tested Angus animals. Ranks range from 1 to 100 with lower numbers generally favored for most traits. Some traits for which percent ranks are available, are not yet included in GE-EPDs powered by AngusGS. These include ranks for heifer pregnancy, measures of feed efficiency and end-product tenderness, which are relevant to Angus breeders as well as their bull customers, cattle feeders, and consumers.
When making selection decisions for traits that have EPDs provided by the AAA, the EPDs should be the selection tool of choice. The EPDs account for all sources of information available on the animal – pedigree, own record, weights/measures, and genomic results.

GeneSeek Genomic Profiler (GGP) Bovine 100K lassos the knowledge of industry leading scientists who have designed and processed more animal genotyping arrays than any other organization. The new generation GGP Bovine 50K leverages Neogen’s leading SNP selection processes to precisely choose the best 100,000 SNPs. This delivers more accurate evaluation of genetic merit, genome wide selection, comparative genetic studies, and higher density imputation. The GGP Bovine 100K contains all the content from popular lower density commercial arrays. Additionally, it has validated and retained the most informative SNPs from the original Illumina Bovine SNP50 and Illumina Bovine HD Bead Chips. Utilize the best content from the most commonly used commercial genotyping arrays, and for a low affordable price, PLUS comprehensive parentage, disease and trait relevant SNPs.
Enhancing Maternal Characteristics
At Chundy Land & Cattle, we are committed to enhancing maternal characteristics and traits. Our focus is on producing females with exceptional maternal qualities, and we utilize two primary programs to help achieve this goal. The Maternal Plus program is implemented with our Angus cows, while we use Total Herd Enrollment (THE) with our SimAngus cows. These programs are vital tools in our ongoing effort to improve the quality and productivity of our females. I’ve added a bit of information from each program on this page to provide further insight.
Maternal Plus: This program goes beyond reporting only the calves you plan to register. It encourages the collection and submission of data on all females, regardless of the calf’s registration status. By doing so, it helps better characterize both individual and herd productivity. The program also ensures that donor cows and females producing high-quality commercial calves are recognized and credited for their contributions.
Total Herd Enrollment (THE): While a wealth of information is routinely collected on sires, tracking dams presents a unique challenge. THE is a dam inventory program specifically designed to monitor each dam’s productivity and her genetic influence on her progeny. By submitting data annually, thousands of breeders help make it possible to calculate maternal trait EPDs with greater accuracy. This, in turn, empowers breeders like you to make more informed selection decisions by identifying the highest-performing cows in your herd.
