Welcome We would like to thank everyone that has supported our bull sale over the years. This year marks our eleventh year in the seed stock business. We have made many friends in the cattle and livestock industry. We take the confidence you have placed in us to improve your bottom line very seriously. Like our operation, you rely on the livestock to support your families and pay your bills. It is so neat to see the loyalty, recognition and approval of our bulls by the ranches that stock them. Some of you have bought bulls since day one and we sure appreciate it. We are very proud of our heritage and the previous generations that have done so much for us. They have helped pave the way and provide a way of life that we love so much. Our father, Jeff Roche, had the idea to purchase the ranch that he was raised on and the place his father managed for 40+ years. Justin and Dusty were barely double digits in age and the year was 1992. We were all excited because it was bordered by the property that our grandparents, Doug and Doris Roche, had purchased from Grandma’s dad, Job Hadfield. The year we bought the ranch claves were in the high seventies, lambs in the high forties, wheat was at $3 and interest rates on loans were 10%-plus. Somehow, we have managed to make it so far! When we started on our own we purchased 100 head from Homgren Conner Cattle Ranch and 250 head from our great-grandpa, Nick Chournos. Currently, we run 1,000 head of cow/calf pairs and 4,000 head of sheep. We haven ot been convicted of being the smartest, but we do know how to run and make and ranch work. We have taken the same approach to our bull program. We continue to improve the quality every year and this is our best offering yet. We say that every year, so it’s a good thing! These cattle know how to get out and work and will produce a profit for you in a commercial environment. They have to or you don’t have a ranch. We believe the best way to stay profitable is to take advantage of crossbreeding, especially maternal heterosis, and quality research proves that. Mathernal heterosis is the most valuable tool available to improve cow performance and herd profitability. With the low heritability of mathernal traits, like fertility and longevity, a breeder can spend a lifetime trying to make the same progress for those crucial traits that can be realized in one easy cross. Studies show an equivalent of 1 to 1.5 extra calves over the lifetime of a female in favor of crossbred cattle because of the combination of greater longevity and extra calf weaning weight. If we could purchase a pharmaceutical that added that much performance and profit there is little doubt that producers would stand in line all day to buy some. We welcome you to the sale and want you to know that we stand behind these bulls 100%. If for any reason you’re not completely satisfied, we will make it right.
2
Sincerely,
RocheRanches Jeff, Justin and Dusty Roche

2-YEAR-OLD BULLS These 2-year-old bulls are really good. I hope you take the time to study them individually, as there are many quality inividuals and a selection of bulls that will work on heifers. These bulls have been out on the range since they were yearlings and they have sound feed and legs. They will be able to handle even the toughest ranges. These bulls fertility tested extremely well and all have above average scrotal size, which promotes fertility in their daughters. Bid with confidence on these coming 2-year-olds as they are coming into the prime of their lives. On a side note, the 2-year-olds in our last two annual sales have been, on average, $400 cheaper than the yearlings, so don’t sit on your hands on these guys!

This is a bull that definitely has it all: calving ease, growth and all the maternal traits that will leave you an awesome set of replacement heifers. This bull is very deep and travels like a cat. He also posted an impressive 5.35 test gain, which was top among his contemporaries. His dam is a super productive young cow and his grand-dam is still producing at 13 years of age! What more can you say about In Focus? One of the Angus breeds truly great bulls with a positive energy EPD +2.38, Beef +94.64, Scrotal +2.10 and Docility +22. You cant go wrong on this bull.

Another In Focus son that will impress on sale day. These In Focus cattle are especially good on a crossbred set of cows. This bull has the disposition of a Hereford but without the cancer eyes and white necks! This guy is super deep sided and soggy. His dam is a really good cow by Bill Conley’s Maverick, who was a bull ABS sold a lot of semen out of. This bull is bred for calving ease on the top and bottom of his pedigree. In Focus sons have topped our sales many times. Most often purchased by our good friends and excellent cattlemen, Mike and Jed Mcmillan of Morgan, Utah. Roche Ranches

Another bull that really gets out and fills his tracks and travels well. If you’re looking for a purebred Angus that looks like one should, then don’t hesitate on this guy. His mother is by Jipsey Earl, the native Scottish bull we have used for several years. They are super good cattle that weigh around 1,100 lbs. mature and milk really well while keeping in good flesh. His sire, Game Day, is #4 bull in the breed for Weaning value at $84.27 and has an energy EPD of +26.40. My good friend, Dennis Hunzeker, bought a paternal brother to this bull last year for $5,000 and commented on how well the bull looked this fall after breeding cows.

This bull could stay looking good on rocks and thistles. He is double bred Emblazon on the top and bottom of his pedigree. He maintains a lot of stretch on his moderate frame and would be best used on commercial cows. He will create good steers and treasured females to put in your replacement pen. I sold a paternal brother of this bull about seven years ago to my good friend and cousin Sonny Munns for $2,500. They recently sold him after using him for seven years! Here is a good heifer bull that still managed 5lbs of gain on test! This bull’s sire originates from the world famous N Bar herd of Sinclair, Wyoming, where they have line bred cattle for many years ensuring calving ease and the maternal genetics of the Angus breed. This bull is loaded with carcass traits. His sire boosts a marbling EPD of 1.26, which is the top 1% of the Angus breed and a energy EPD of +43.99 also in the top 1%.

If your wondering why this bull does not have weaning weight, yearling weight and test gain numbers, it’s because he spent the winter on the forest above Inkom, Idaho. He was without his mother and only the elk and deer for company. We finally got him back around the first of April when he came down to the freeway above Lava. We loaded him in the trailer of our neighbors! You can feel confident in turning this bull out on the Mojave Desert and have him come back alive and well. This is a really well bred bull combining In Focus and Jipsey Earl. Everybody likes a bull with a story and this guy has one.

This guy is a big, bold, blaze faced stud! I really understand why people like the Hereford genetics, especially for there docility and mothering ability, but for the life of me, I don’t understand why a commercial cattleman would want one of those white necked purebreds when you can have a good black polled bull like this dude. His sire, Magnum, is old school Hereford with performance and was a bull Select Sires sold a lot of semen out of. His dam is a larger framed Angus cow that goes back to the VanDyke ranch of Montana, so she has to be good. 4

This bull you have to see in person to really appreciate. He is so wide and deep he will hardly fit in a chute as a two-year-old! This bull is red with a blaze face. He looks like a Simmental, but is a true F1. His dam, by Jipsey Earl, carries a red gene like many of the old angus cattle do. This gene is what allowed this red bull to come out of a Purebred Registered Angus cow! This bull will do many good things for your cattle. Look at the performance: he weaned off his 1st calf heifer dam at 880lbs and posted a yearling weight of 1,225 lbs. This guy is quiet as a mouse and will let you scratch him in the pen. We pulled semen on this bull for our own use and will have semen for sale on him at $20 a straw collected at Hoffman’s in Logan, Utah.

A brockle faced bull that will never throw a white-necked Hereford; that all of your cattle buyers just love. As a cattle broker, I often hear the buyers complaining about the Hereford marked calves. This guy is a paternal brother to Lot 9 and is a little more moderate framed than his brother, but still carries the same performance. This bull is out of a first calf heifer that has a gorgeous udder and good disposition. This bull could work on first calf heifers. His sire, Magnum, boosts a marbling EPD of .84 and a ribeye EPD .89, so, there’s a lot of carcass here to go along with the maternal traits of his outstanding mother.

He is paternal brother to the top selling Simmental yearling that went to Cody Miller of Pocatello, Idaho, for $5,500. This may be the best bull of the sale. His sire comes from the world famous Ohlde herd of Kansas that are known for their ability to efficiently convert grass to beef and their high rate of fertility. This brute’s dam is a very long bodied cow that goes back to the world famous New Design 878. New Design 878 is still producing semen for ABS at 17 years of age! J6 413, his a 11-year-old cow, that is still going strong and making a living in the desert of Nevada, grazing year-round. His grand-dam was also a super productive cow, producing until 13 years of age. Even though there is not an EPD for longevity, it is bred into this bull. Longevity is one of the most important traits to ensure profitability in ranching.

This is a bull that will work on heifers and he is one of the most attractive bulls in the sale. Mustang is a bull that is really popular with Select Sires and has sold a lot of semen the last couple of years. This bull sits on a very correct set of legs and feet and has the stride of a cat. He is out of an absolutely gorgeous first calf heifer and displays femininity and fleshing ease that we all want in our females. This bull is a female maker; bid on him with confidence.

His Sire, Progress, is the world’s #1 high accuracy marbling bull with a EPD of 1.80 and a beef value of $101.05. We have AI’d to Progress for over 4 years and for being advertised as a carcass bull; he still throws sons and daughters with moderate frames and loaded with muscle and guts. His dam comes from a long line of super productive females. We have retained three daughters of J6 860 in the herd and J6 637 produced until she was 16-years-old and was one of my all-time favorites.

Another bull that descends from the Domino line of cattle. J6 127 is my favorite cow out of all, the F1’s we have out of Domino. These cattle are super good and have the dispositions of puppies. The Simmental comes from his sire J6 Vindicator 049, that will be on display. Paternal brothers sell as lots 46,47. This bulls paternal sire is BCC Bushwhacker, who is a pathfinder and a legend in the Angus breed.

This bull descends from J6 790, who is a very moderate framed powerhouse. She has raised three bulls that we have sold and they have averaged $3,500. J6 790 might be a cow that your not necessarily very fond of when you go to tag her calf, she is very protective, but she lives on the top of the mountain all summer and gets bred and brings home a homerun every fall. She weighs 1,100 lbs and managed to wean off 68% of her body weight. His sire, J6 Domino, is a half blood Hereford that is a breeding machine and always stays sound and looking good. He will also be on display and for sale, he is very impressive.

A red son of Beef Maker, who is a top performing bull in the Simmental breed going from a .4 BW to a 75 WW and over 100 for Yearling. This bull can be used on heifers and will throw almost all red calves on red cows and almost all black calves on black cows. His dam is a straight black cow that I purchased from Yardley’s - a 10-year-old cow that is still going strong. This bull is extremely attractive.

This bull is bred top and bottom calving ease and will be a great heifer bull. His dam is a super productive daughter of LCC Gravity, she was the favorite of many who came and looked at the heifers in California. She is very deep and correct. J6 225, the Grand dam of this bull, is still very productive at 13 years of age and we have retained seven daughters out of her. Beef Maker might be the best all around son of Shear Force, bid with confidence on this super complete bull.

This is the bull that we call “Oreo.” He is sired by the famous Fat Butt of SEK Genetics who has sired many high selling bulls and heifers. This bull’s dam is a very good cow that goes back to the famous J6 637 who produced until 16 years of age. This bull has a little bit of color and is a harder muscled bull, but would click really well with mostly angus sired cows. Roche Ranches

This bull displays a ton of masculinity and length. He will impress many come sale day. His dam is a gem of a cow that never misses and has two daughters retained in the herd. J6 Kiddo 086, as a calf, was a favorite of Sonny Munns, who is a partner with us on our Idaho Ranch and is as good of a cattleman as there is, running a very nice set of cows on minimal inputs. If he’s good enough for Sonny Munns, then he’ll work for you. Don’t hesitate to own this brute.

Here is a double bred calving ease bull by Mytty In Focus who has generated high sellers for us year after year. This three-year-old bull has bred cows from California as a yearling to a two-year-old in the Nevada desert. He will be able to handle any range and be able to breed a lot of cows without problem. He is very tight sheathed and correct. His dam is a very neat moderate framed cow by OCC Magnitude.

This bull will have sons that sell the same time. So, if you like them you will probably like their sire. He has an outstanding disposition and a ton of length and is super smooth. Rito Revenue is a moderate framed bull that is chuck full of carcass. He goes back to one of the greatest beef bulls of all time GAR Predestined, who is still alive at 16 years of age. Don’t hesitate to bid on these older bulls, as they have a lot of years left in them. This bull did almost 4.5 lbs a day on test.

This guy was my favorite of the 2012 calf crop. His sire, Vindicator, is a Select Sires bull that many have used because of his calving ease and his ability to maintain performance while keeping frame score under control. This bull has a huge top and is very deep, he displays heavy bone yet is a low birth weight bull. He also has worked from the coasts of California to the deserts of Nevada. Several sons sell the same day. 22

Blaze faced and super soggy. His dam is a 1,200 lb. cow that weaned this monster at 800 lbs as a first calf heifer. She continues to be very productive. This bull has a little leather on him and is a little looser in his sheath, but that extra leather indicates to me that his daughters will be very easy fleshing, good doers. His son, Lot 46 will be a sale favorite and if you like him, take home his sire as well.

This bull should be in one of the major AI studs because of his unbelievable growth and early maturity. This bull measured an incredible 44cm scrotal circumference as a yearling and posted an incredible 900lb weaning weight. The weaning weight was not because he followed around a creep feeder all summer while on his mother; he did all this while grazing with his awesome Grid Maker dam on the Pebble Creek National Forest at 7,000 ft. elevation. This bull is larger framed but has a lot to him and has a extra big set of feet. He has as much performance as any angus bull that I’ve had the privilege to be around. He’s got some really good sons in the sale also, don’t miss out on the chance of a lifetime to own this bull.
Thank you for joining us! We look forward to seeing you again next year! Roche Ranches

A very good 4-year-old bull by Domino. Domino is a breed leader for calving ease and performance. We have many daughters out of this bull that are calving for the first time and they have very nice udders with plenty of milk. Lot 70 is an absolute breeding machine that stays sound and looking good; he bred cows all summer in the Nevada desert. His dam is a very good 1,100 lb. cow that we have retained two heifers out of.
