MODEL DECAL DOES NOT TELL THE COMPLETE STORY
Launched as part of a ‘new’ generation of Manitou NewAG telehandlers back in 2016, the nominal 7.0m lift and 4.1tonne capacity MLT741-140 V+ reached UK users in late 2017. A key feature of the new models was the adoption of just one transmission type, a stepless ZF ‘hydrostatic’ with no powershift version. From late 2020, MLT741-140 V+ models switched to Stage V power units and a new DANA transmission with a powershift MLT741130 PS+ arriving in late 2021.
To
Manitou attached the NewAG tag to its telehandlers in 2016 to outline developments to include a higher specification cab, operator aids to improve ease of use and performance with detail changes to make machine maintenance easier. At the same time, the company also sought to rationalise its product offering, limiting the number of model variations heading down the production line.
This meant customers wanting a powershift transmission MLT741 were out of luck. To cater for their needs, dealers would have pointed them toward the identically sized MLT737-130 PS+, albeit with 10hp less power at 130hp and 150l/min as opposed to 170l/min hydraulics. If this lacked capacity, the alternative would be to step up to the larger MLT840-145 PS+ with 140hp and 200l/min hydraulics.
Although this helped ensure Manitou users in the ‘powershift’ camp did have an alternative to the ‘hydro’ MLT741-140 V+, Manitou did recognise there was a demand for a powershift 741. To meet this, the MLT741130 PS+ was made available from mid-2021. This model is based upon the MLT737-130PS+ but with a larger rear counterweight and the increased diameter lift ram taken from the 741. This was not a new idea; the previous generation MLT741-120 was subject to the same ‘upgrades’ to up its capacity over the MLT735-120.
In outline, the MLT741-140 V+ launched in 2016 was offered with:
• 136hp Stage IV Deutz four-cylinder engine DOC and SCR exhaust treatment.
• 170l/min hydraulics.
• V+ hydrostatic stepless by ZF transmission featuring a single Rexroth pump powering a sealed gearbox with two internal radial piston motors. Speed range 0-40kph.
• Classic, Premium and Elite specification choices, with the latter accounting for around 90% plus of UK sales.
• Michelin XMCL tyres standard initially but subsequently varied due to supply problems.
• Regenerative hydraulics, where boom lowers under gravity (option with Classic specification).
• Intelligent hydraulics with auto boom movement controls on Elite, option on Classic and Premium models. During the production run of the Stage IV
MANITOU
MLT737-130 PS+ PREMIUM

Comment: Up until the introduction of the MLT740-130PS+, users looking for a powershift MLT in the 7.0 lift category would have needed to step ‘down to the 3.7t capacity MLT735. PS+ MLT741 is essentially the same but has an extra 500kg counterweight and larger lift ram. Expect one to carry a £3K to £5K premium over a like for like MLT737.
Price point: Fair from around £58,000, good examples nearer £60,000.

MLT741-140V+ ELITE
Year: 2022
Condition: Ex-demo
Comment: Stage V models with DANA transmission will be a rare used find, those that enter the market typically being ex-demo models. These may have an enhanced spec to include cameras. Low hour examples will command near new money.
Price point: From £95,000
engine models, several changes were made between 2017 to 2020. These include:
• Single windscreen wiper replaced by a twoblade system that offers the same coverage but with a reduced wiper pressure to eliminate the risk of windscreen scratching. Replacement two-blade wiper kit upgrade available.
MANITOU
MLT741-140V+ ELITE
Year: 2021
Condition: 2,450
Comment: Late Stage IV models with ZF transmission now among the more likely used finds. Ensure the transmission runs smoothly and check the handler has a dealer service history. These variants are not known for problems but if the transmission does play up it will need specialist attention. Rare to find Premium or Classic spec, these commanding up to £5,000 less.
Price point: From around £68,000 but sound examples on good tyres nearer £78,000.
MANITOU
MLT741-130 PS+ PREMIUM
Year: 2022
Condition: 650
Comment: Powershift MLT741 models offered from mid-2021. Not as popular as V+ variant and essentially based upon the MLT737. Most will have Premium spec package but check. Pricewise they can command similar used money to a V+, largely due to their scarcity.
Price point: From around £78,000.
• Electric door window fully retracts when lowered.
• ‘Blue button’ JSM activation switch fitted from early 2020. This must be pressed to activate the controls when entering the cab or if there has been no JSM movement after 10 seconds. A point to note if you are not familiar with this generation of MLT741.
WHAT’S USED
Hydraulic lock and release is standard on the Manitou headstock. If you get the chance to hitch up to a bucket or set of forks it will quickly highlight any problems. This area works hard so check for play in the pivots. New bushes are relatively inexpensive and not difficult to fit.
Cone and pin ‘Matbro’ hitches remain popular, with alternatives, such as the JCB Q-Fit having a following. When going to view a machine, find out what carriage is fitted as swaps can add an unexpected cost.
If you look at the axles, you will see drain and level plugs on the differential housing. If these show evidence of having been removed it is a good sign. The internal axle brakes contaminate the oil as they wear so changing the latter is important.

With the introduction of Stage V engines in late 2020, further changes to include the following were made:
• DANA transmission replaces ZF. This is a less complex design that uses a single Rexroth pump to power two separate Rexroth motors, one of which is coupled to the pump via a single clutch pack. This disengages this motor at around 19kph to reduce fuel use at transport speeds. Both motors engaged at lower speeds to boost tractive effort.
• Stage V Deutz engine has combined DFP and DOC with SCR exhaust after treatment.
• JSM Auto Power added. In outline, the engine speed is varied to automatically respond to hydraulic demand, with the ‘throttle’ pedal independently controlling the travel speed. This feature can be switched on or off, a point to note if the system appears not to function on a used buy.
• ‘Blue button’ JSM switch replaced by capacitive sensor. This should be activated as the JSM is gripped. Those new to the system may ‘miss’ the sensor area but it is something users become familiar with.
V+ Elite specification will include the Vision in-cab display, less common Premium and Classic handlers having a smaller and less comprehensive Harmony unit. It is possible to retrofit the Manitou Safe View camera system to Vision equipped loaders, but not those with a Harmony display.
Most prefer it to the ‘Blue button’.
• Automatic parking brake that operates on the enclosed axle brakes. The previous ratchet manual handbrake system could see the cables and levers to work the brakes seize.
• ‘Easy Step’ lighting illuminates cab steps.
• ECO-Stop will automatically stop the engine if the driver leaves the cab for an adjustable period of between 3 to 30 minutes. Can be deactivated as it is possible to leave the machine stopped with the ‘ignition’ still on. With reference to the MLT741-130 PS+, available from Mid 2021, its specification is shared with the lower capacity MLT737-130 PS+ model. This means it has a Stage V 130hp power unit, 150l/min hydraulics and the PS+ six- speed power shift transmission with Auto Shift.
SPECIFICATION PACKS
In addition to the core specification, Manitou offer Classic, Premium and Elite packages with, as previously mentioned, the latter proving the most popular in the UK. In broad outline, the key features of each are as follows*.
Classic: Base model with mechanical Grammer seat, basic radio, Harmony in-cab display, four work lights on the cab and hand throttle.
Premium: Key enhancements include air suspension Grammer seat, Bluetooth radio, four LED cab work lights, manual air conditioning and regenerative hydraulics.
automatic adjustment air-con, automatic wheel alignment, CRC active boom suspension, continuous flow hydraulics, electric mirrors with de-icing and intelligent hydraulics.
*PS+ models not offered with hand throttle, regenerative hydraulics or intelligent hydraulics.
From this outline, it is clear the Elite package offers some key advances and features. This will explain why an Elite of the same age, condition and hours as the much rarer Classic
or Premium may have a sticker price some 5% to 10% higher.
KEY CHECKS
Manitou has its own attachment carriage design, with hydraulic lock as standard on UK and Irish specification MLT machines. Alternative carriage designs can be fitted, so ensure you check before going to view a machine. It is all too easy to overlook the cost
MLT loader cab has not changed since launch but there will be a few detail differences between various models when it comes to the JSM controller. Fairly early in the production run, a blue button was added to the rear face of the JSM. This had to be depressed to activate the controls. Customer feedback saw this replaced in late 2021 by a capacitive sensor (Arrowed) that allows the JSM to work as it is gripped. If a used buy does not respond to JSM inputs you may not have pressed or touched either.
WHAT’S USED
of swapping between systems. If you have a range of attachments, it makes sense to try and stick with a compatible carriage. Dealers may be able to swap carriages to suit but do not assume this will come without additional expense.
A dealer should ensure the carriage and related ancillaries are in good order but still look for wear and damage. A simple way to do this is to fit and remove a bucket and check how securely it fits. If there is play in the connection points, seek advice. Also look over ancillary attachment hydraulic couplings and hose runs.
Moving to the axles, the various pivot points last well if routinely greased and with these machines this is eased by the remote grease points. Front axle King Pins and track rods are the most liable to wear, with the easiest check being to fit a bucket and to use this to raise the front of the machine. It is easier to pick up wear when the is no load on the axle. The rear axle tends to be less liable to wear but still look it over. Worn track rods can be picked up by a waggle on the steering.
WHAT’S USED
As to the brakes and axle differentials, a key is to ensure the correct specification oil has been changed typically once a year or at 500 hours. Each axle takes around 7 litres and changing it regularly will help protect the brakes from premature wear. V+ hydrostatic drive can mean the brakes do not work as hard in yard work. Pinning down a heavy trailed load from a high transport speed, however, is different. Check the brakes work as expected in other words.
The fully mechanical handbrake on Stage IV engine models, as previously mentioned, has cables and levers that act upon the axle brakes. Well worth ensuring the brake holds and releases, a reluctance of the handler to roll when stopped on a slope suggesting further investigation is needed. The automatic electronic system of Stage V models should be more reliable or, more accurately, be less prone to problems relating to poor maintenance.
The rear hitch is a simple item but ensure the lift ram is not bent and that the clamp claws are in good order as they do wear.
BOOM AND RAMS
The main rear lower boom pivot was a key check point on previous generation MLT handlers, the remote grease points of the NewAg models making this less of a concern. Visible play in any pivot as the boom is raised
All MLT ‘700’ models have Deutz power units, with Stage IV and Stage V power units and related ancillaries looking pretty much the same. Coolant header tank fluid should look clean and the engine checked for leaks. Problems with these power units are rare but as with all modern engines poor quality AdBlue and fuel can lead to running problems.

in the boom and typically last well. They are not difficult to renew if worn.
ENGINE
Not a lot to say in this regard, the Deutz power units typically giving little trouble subject to the usual reminder to check the engine oil has been changed to schedule and that the oil showing on the dipstick looks in decent condition.
On later Stage V models with a DPF, the regeneration system does a good job if allowed to do its thing. The warning system on the dash display will show when the next regen is necessary. As with any engine, check for leaks and ensure the coolant is clean in the header tank.
In work, remember the power unit on V+ models can have its automated control come into play as a function is activated. If the system does not suit your way of operating the handler, it can be turned off but it is worth sticking with as it can save on fuel. A good seller will outline how the system works.
TRANSMISSION AND HYDRAULICS
The ZF transmission in Stage IV models is not known for problems but, if it does play up, it will need attention from a ZF specialist.
It is a ‘complex’ item. The Stage V engine model’s move to a DANA design was not made because the ZF was troublesome but more to reflect dealers wanting to be able to ‘fix’ the transmission if something does go wrong. As it employs readily available Rexroth motors and pumps, this later design should be easier to work upon if needed.
When it comes to the hydraulics, all you can do is ensure everything works. A dealer system check will highlight if there are any problems. The more complex control software and sensors employed on Elite models are not known for any typical problems but that is not the same as suggesting they never play up. If something is amiss it can usually be traced to a faulty sensor. As a used buyer you really do need to work the hydraulics on a non-dealer prepared machine to see if you can pick up anything amiss.
CAB
Manitou clearly spent a lot of time in the development of the NewAg MLT cab. Access is via a single step with a triangular cab floor cut-out that makes getting in and out easier. The one-piece door with electric window is heavy so make sure it has not been damaged as it will be costly to fix. Check the widow winds down and ensure the air conditioning system operates. A lot of yard only MLT users do not need the air con so it can suffer from dried out seals.
The Vision in-cab display screen of Elite models, and smaller Harmony unit in the Classic and Premium variants, will provide useful information with reference to various operating parameters and it is well worth thumbing through the menus. The functions will show up as the associated button or dial is moved.
GENERAL CONDITION
If you get a chance to view a used buy before it heads off for preparation in a dealer workshop, grab it. You can pick up a good clue to the machine’s past care just by looking at its overall condition. The main chassis, axles and booms on these machines are based upon wellproven components. Manitou build quality is good, with paint fade and overall finish holding up well. A dealer prepared machine should, in other words, look good even on a machine that has some hours on the clock.
REGENERATIVE HYDRAULICS
WHAT’S USED
Regenerative hydraulics operate by allowing the boom drop by gravity, rather than being actively pushed down by the hydraulic circuit. The thinking behind the system is that it saves power, with spare oil flow available for any other function operated at the same time.
Automatic modes include Quick Lift. This will extend the boom while lifting. Other automated functions include retaining the headstock in its set position as the boom is raised, bucket shake and a return-to-position system. These functions can be turned off so make sure they are activated if you want to try them out.
Mechanical handbrake lever a quick Stage IV engine identifier, although pictured unit is of the design fitted to previous MLT generation. Cables and the levers that act upon the internal axle brakes of these models can seize.
THE ZF TRANSMISSION
Manitou’s single-range stepless gearbox is supplied by ZF on Stage IV models and uses a hydraulic pump to drive a pair of radial motors at low speeds to provide maximum torque, but kills one of them at speeds over 20kph to save on fuel. That means there is no swash plate like you would see in other machines, which the company says requires more flow oil to produce the same torque.
It works well and delivers seamless ‘shifting’ but if it does go wrong it will need specialist attention.
WHAT’S USED
The standard tyre size on the MLT741 is 460/70R24 on both V+ and PS+ models, with earlier models from around 2017 to 2018 possibly running Michelin rubber, later and current models leaving the factory on Alliance tyres. If another brand is fitted this will suggest the tyres have been changed at some point with the caveat that the factory would have fitted a brand that was available at certain times. Most ag spec handlers will be fitted with cleat tyres but block patterns are available.

dealers typically have a buyer lined up for a trade-in. A good number of these popular models do not make it to the wider retail market in other words.
In broad terms, Stage IV V+ models with the ZF transmission are the most likely used find, with retail prices starting at around £45,000 for a late 2017 6,000hr plus machine with Elite specification, machines of the same age but with around half those hours retailing for between £55,000 to £60,000. As with all used machinery there are no hard and fast rules. At the other extreme, ex-demo V+ Elite models with a good spec may sell from £95,000 plus, new retail prices starting at around £103,000.

with a Manitou dealer. A late used buy may have a tempting sticker price but if the purchase will need to be financed, compare it with buying new. There may be a deal to be had.

TELEMATICS AND EASED MAINTENANCE
From 2020, telematics monitoring was offered free for the first three years. It provides connected machine monitoring to cover servicing and GPS location for user tracking. On a used buy, the system may have been left active or switched off completely, so check. The system carries a monthly subscription of around £16 although this will be at the discretion of a supplying Manitou dealer. If buying from another source, you will need to contact your local dealer to see if the system can be activated.
Operators of previous generation MLT models will note a few changes made to ease routine maintenance. These include remote grease points for the rear and front axles pivots and the bottom lift and compensator ram pins. There are also remote grease points on the wheels to lube the king pins and lower pivots points. According to Manitou, these have reduced wear in these key areas.
The manual handbrake system uses cables acting on levers to apply axle brakes. The system works fine but it does rely upon the operator checking the system is not caked in muck and ensuring the levers are not seized. It is not unusual for the parking brake to seize. The electronic system fitted to Stage V engine models is fully automatic and because there are no exposed parts, it should be less prone to problems. Still ensure the handler does not roll if parked on a slope.
A further four grease nipples are positioned at the rear, these providing lube access to the rear axle pivot as well as the lower main and compensator ram bushes.

Owing to deadline dates this is the first opportunity I have had to look back at tractor festive events of which there were many in our area.
The amount raised from these road runs and other related events across the UK for charity from this time of year must be well over £100,000 when you get down to it. A lot of effort went into making them all happen and I was able to visit a number of them in the South East and East Anglia over this period. This is my tribute to all those that made the effort to take part and organise these events and to the families who came and enjoyed the events which are
becoming more difficult to organise every year.

BRADLEY’S CHARITY ROAD RUN
Sunday 15 December saw some 120 tractors of all ages, plus a number of lorries and 4 x 4s, assemble at the South of England Showground, Ardingly, Sussex for Bradley Woodward’s 5th Tractor Road Run. It was held in aid of St Peter & James Hospice and Kangaroos Learning Disability Charity.
Bradley tells us more: “The first year was meant to be the only one, as I wanted to raise funds for a charity close to my heart and I thought to myself how can I make other people’s Christmas better? Having a passion for tractors and machinery, I thought why not bring like minded people together around the festive period and also make the community happy.”
After a breakfast roll the road runners were ready to leave the site. The tractors and lorries headed through Ardingly, Lindfield, Haywards Heath, Cuckfield, high streets which were packed with people who come to see the parade. Bradley said: “This is what it’s all about, bringing everyone together and raising money for charity. This is what gives me the buzz to do it all and helpers have been rather short this year.”
He added: “a big thank you to the sponsors, especially: NFU Chailey, RW Motor Engineering, Simax Group, Ernest Doe, Starbright Chemicals and the South of England Showground for the venue. It looks as though we have raised £4,000 from the event. I must not forget all our marshals who kept us all safe. Also to Jo and John Parnaby for organising the raffle. Roll on the December 2025 Run!”

HUGE CROWD AT HASTINGS
Co-organiser Andy Munday of Westfield Christmas Lights staged with fellow organiser Trevor Chearman the amazing Hastings Christmas Lights Tractor Road Run. Started at 6pm on Saturday 21 December at The Strade, Hastings (This is part of Hastings old town by the traditional fisherman’s market).
The weather was dry and reasonably warm for the time of year and this brought out a huge crowd to watch it all. Andy Munday takes up the story: “Westfield Christmas Lights was started back in December 1975 when my mother and father along with the Tomsett’s put some lights up on their houses. This was then followed by a few neighbours and over the years this has grown and grown into a fantastic display of lights in the whole village. The free light display starts from 1 December
and lasts until New Year’s Day and each evening lights up Westfield.
The event has now raised £123,500 for local charities including Veterans Growth, Charity for Kids, St Michaels Hospice, Hastings and SERV Sussex. In fact Ken Munday was awarded a British Empire medal in the King's birthday honours list in June 2023 for services devoted to charity and to the community of Westfield a wonderful achievement.”

Here they travelled along Hastings seafront then on Harley Shute to Sedlescombe, Westfield, Three Oaks, Guesting, Ore then on to the Old London Road and back to The Strade.”
What an evening it was too with Patsy Chearman out with her late father’s Fordson Dexta with low slung exhaust. After finding high top she was away and was well wrapped up for the event! The Playfoot’s Muir Hill was also on the run, but Jonathan was sadly not here suffering from Covid-19, he certainly missed a spectacular evening which raised £3,726 from the event.
WET AND WINDY AT SEDGEMOOR
The weather forecast for southern England on New Year’s Day did not sound promising, however having left home in the dry I was hopeful of staying ahead of the rain, but it was not to be.
Vehicles attending the Sedgemore Market Centre were well down on previous years and I imagine a few turned back as the weather deteriorated. Some of the vehicles present however made the journey worthwhile, so having seen and recorded the best and got soaked in the process I soon left for home, but looking forward to the season starting ahead.

HILL BILLY’S CHRISTMAS ROAD RUN
It all started at 10.30am on Sunday 22 December at Blackberry Farm near Otford, Sevenoaks, Kent when 55 vintage and a few classics assembled for this excellent annual charity event who are all part of the Hill Billy Tractor Group.
Many were also FFA members, and there were more dressed up Father Christmas’ than I have ever seen in one place before. Tea and

On Saturday 4 January the NT&EC staged their first ever New Year’s event at Fendick’s Fisheries, Whittington, Norfolk and it turned out to be a huge success and is something certainly needed in the area. The weather was warmer and less windy than on New Year’s Day which helped matters. There was a fine turnout of just about everything and people as well. It certainly looks set to become an annual event.

Before they left the farm complex some £465 had been collected as they headed towards Green Lane, Wrotham on to St Clare’s and The Bell Inn where they stopped for a break. It was approximately 11.30am when they arrived with Becca, Jim and Roger collecting in the buckets. The road runners
then headed for Noah’s Ark, Seal, up River Hill and through Sevenoaks high street where there was a huge crowd watching. It was then back to Otford and Blackberry Farm at approximately 2.30pm.
By the end of the day the team had raised £1,119 for Kent Air Ambulance. Congratulations to everyone involved. We thank John Gee for all his help in compiling this information.
SIX-BELLS A BIG HIT
Some 142 tractors took part in the annual Six-Bells Road Run, which started at Jeff Burgess premises, Cross In Hand, Heathfield, East Sussex on Boxing Day. There was music, plus free mince pies and refreshments for everyone, as they arrived on their steeds for the day. The fog and mist lifted somewhat, for everyone to enjoy this annual event. Emily Burgess waved them on their way. Emily has now taken over the running of the excellent garage repair business from her father Jeff.
At 10.30am the runners took to the roads, all masterminded by Brian Tompsett and his fellow marshals. They travelled via Waldron and ended up eventually at the Six Bells, where

they were joined by further tractors that had made their way straight to the site.
All in all a great event, some people didn’t leave the Six Bells until gone 3pm to make their way home in the, by then, dusk light.

PUNTERS COME OUT IN DROVES
The Larling Angel Charity Road Run on Boxing Day is the biggest tractor road run of the day, held not far from Norwich, Norfolk. This year saw 231 booked in at £20 per head in very foggy conditions, with 89 of the entries vintage and classic tractors many from the Ford, Fordson and New Holland stable.
Organised by the Stammers family these days, with Gavin at the head of affairs, this family is very much steeped in farming and local industries in the area.
Placed just off the A11 it’s easy for people to travel to the start, which is at the immaculate Larling Angel Inn and a roaring trade was done there all day and night. The crowd was huge, with at least 1,000 people there at the 10.30am start. This year’s chosen charity was Norfolk

The 20 plus mile route travelled through Larling, Shropham, Great Ellingham, Little Ellingham, Caston, Thompson and the lunch stop was at Great Hockham just four miles from the finish at Alex Beards Farms who sponsored all the fine food and refreshments.
It was great to see the multi-winning British High Cut Ploughing Champion Shaun Garrod here with his ploughing Fordson Dexta. In fact his family stepped in to save this event a number of years ago when no one came forward to take it on.
As the event went on the fog and mist became worse, as did the light rain, but all in all a great occasion, especially the wonderful lunch. Gavin tells us that the event has raised just on £6,000, congratulations to everyone who took part.

KUBOTA ADDS FLAGSHIP PIVOT STEER
TELESCOPIC
Kubota (UK) Ltd has revealed its largest pivot-steer telescopic loader to-date, as it moves deeper into the materials handling sector to provide a wider range of solutions for agriculture.
Called the RT305T-2, this new pivot-steer telescopic loader sits at the top of Kubota’s 10-model RT range, and boasts a 1.2 tonne capacity up to its maximum lift height of 4.3 metres thanks to its centrally-mounted, two-stage telescopic boom.
A maximum horizontal reach of 3m can be achieved with a 750kg load, and for those seeking additional stability, the RT’s fourtonne operating weight can be increased by 200kg through the use of a bolt-on, additional counterweight. Complimenting the telescopic loader’s powerful lift and reach is a low overall height of 2.27m and an overall width of 1.34m.
Manoeuvrability is provided by a maintenance-free centre-pivot joint with 45 degrees of steering articulation, creating an outside turning radius of 3.15m. Four degrees of joint oscillation contributes to keeping all four wheels on the ground, when negotiating uneven terrain.
LOADER TO RT RANGE
Hydraulic performance extends to 70 litres/ min through an auxiliary circuit, with the option of up to three double-acting services for powered attachments. The telescopic loader features a proportional joystick with two double acting hydraulic services, and a hydraulic locking headstock is fitted as standard.
Hose burst check-valves and load-moment control for forward over-turn protection meeting EN15000 certification, are also part of the standard specification.
Power for the range-topping RT305T-2 comes from an EU Stage V compliant, fourcylinder turbocharged Kubota V2403 diesel engine producing 66hp. Its DPF offers a 6,000 hour maintenance interval, contributing to a low cost of ownership.
Like other models in the RT range, the driveline is hydrostatic. A Bosch Rexroth hydraulic motor drives both Carraro axles through mechanical driveshafts, and offers two speed ranges – 0-15kph and 0-30kph. The powertrain includes multidisc brakes and permanent four wheel drive, with differential locks on both axles to further boost traction.
Pro Inching control enables engine rpm to be preset on a dial, with the foot-operated throttle pedal then used as a travel pedal, to precisely manage forward and reverse speeds.
Four versions of the RT305T-2 telescopic loader are available; two are canopy-equipped models in standard and high-specifications, and two use fully glazed cabs with a one-piece door and a right-hand opening window –again, in standard and high-specification derivatives. Specification differences see the standard versions shod on 480/45-17 tyres, with high-specification models gaining 500/45-20 tyres, along with a combination towing pack that comprises a jaw hitch and 50mm tow ball.
All four RT305T-2 derivatives benefit from an air-suspended seat, while cabbed versions can be equipped with an optional air conditioning system. Boom float and boom suspension can also be specified.
Engine service intervals are every 500 hours, and all four models are offered with a two-year, 2,000-hour warranty. Pricing for Kubota’s RT305T-2 telescopic loader starts from £55,000 (€66,000 ROI).
A new fully UK-compliant Kumm-Technik KTS transport tanker was launched at LAMMA 2025 by J Riley, sole UK importer of the German manufacturer’s premiumquality slurry-handling machinery range. The new KTS 32 Light is an articulated lorry semi-trailer. It is particularly well-suited to transporting digestate and slurry out to applicators working in the field and will suit contractors and hauliers specialising in this sector.
Features of the new low-deadweight tanker trailer include:

NEW SLURRY TRANSPORT TANKER
£11,000 ADDED TO CULTIVATE A GENERATION FUND
A record-breaking LAMMA for Kramp provided additional funds to its Cultivate a Generation grant scheme for 2025. The revenue comes from the proceeds of its sales on the Kramp stand at the event. Added to the existing commitment, £51,000 of funding is available to successful applicants.
With decent event footfall and a bigger stand, Kramp smashed last year’s total LAMMA sales on the first day. Kramp’s LED work lights, Knipex pliers, and Rossi boots proved particularly popular with visitors.
“We were selling to farmers at LAMMA to show them the range available if they visit a dealer stocking the Kramp range,” said Leo Copping, field sales manager for Kramp UK. “This was made not-forprofit by donating the proceeds to our Cultivate a Generation grant fund.”
Elsewhere on the stand, Metcalf’s Agricultural Engineers won the competition for £3,500 worth of its Kramp Workshops Solutions racking. This is an integrated racking system that allows quick and accurate restocking of consumables.
“Kramp has supplied us for many years,” said Ray Metcalf. “They are a great company to deal with.”
“We popped by the Kramp stand for a cup of tea, and my wife entered the competition while I was catching up with the Kramp team, so it was a complete surprise when I was told we won. We plan to add it to our existing workshop racking.”
KVERNELAND GROUP INTRODUCE NEW PRODUCTS
SYNC
This newly developed implement gateway for all Kverneland Group ISOBUS-equipped implements has been introduced to simplify and improve data exchange between the implement and farm office.
A telematics system, Sync is geared towards improving operational efficiency, and it operates with an ‘always connected’ protocol through ISOBUS and mobile network connectivity. Doing so enables Sync to seamlessly transfer data from the implement to IsoMatch FarmCentre, Kverneland’s integrated farm management platform.
Sync also enables real-time tracking of operational behaviour and diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s). Users can also benefit from remote support functionality through the Kverneland ServiceCentre, enabling dealer technicians to analyse data and resolve issues promptly and remotely.
Added functionality includes synchronisation with Kverneland implement apps, for example to establish precise machine location and tracking, and improving the security of implements stored at remote locations.
CURVEPILOT
Curve Pilot is the automatic management of side-shift on Kverneland’s new flagship
butterfly mower, the 55100MT Vario.
Fitted as standard, Curve Pilot automatically shifts both rear mowing units by up to 400mm, in response to tractor steering. This innovative feature does not need any GPS input or autosteering integration to operate. Instead, Curve Pilot uses a simple gyroscope to sense turning movements, which then controls side-shift on the rear mowing units to prevent striping that can occur between the front and rear mower units when following headland curves or mowing around obstacles.
Curve Pilot enables the operator to make full use of the working width, rather than having to accept a less-than-ideal overlap on headlands for example, which can restrict the working width and reduce output.
The 55100MT Vario replaces the 53100MT Vario and retains many of its proven features, such as QuattroLink bed suspension for contour following. The butterfly outfit uses a pair of nine-disc cutting beds offering a working width from 9.8m-10.2m, with conditioning achieved through a semi-swing steel tine conditioner. Conditioning hoods offer dual adjustment at both the front and rear of each hood, to adjust the intensity of conditioning to suit crop volume. In addition, the rear part of the hood allows rapid change-over from swathing to spreading. The 55100MT Vario can also be retro-fitted with BX swath groupers which, thanks to quick release couplings, can be fitted and removed in a matter of minutes.
LATEST ADDITION TO THE BOSS LINE UP
The PathCross ATV is described by its manufacturer, AODES, as its newest sensation and a trailblazer in their offroad series.
The PathCross boasts a modular design and a choice of several models featuring V-Twin engines in 650cc, 1000cc and the new single cylinder 525cc displacements. The main features include an Active Emission Cooling (AEC) system, superior ground clearance and suspension travel, hydraulic breaking operating four-wheel disc brakes, and an adjustable front and automatic rear differential system. The PathCross complements the range of vehicles Boss distribute and support in the UK.
The Corvus Terrain range comprises the EX4 100% electric 4x4 utility vehicle and DX4 rugged diesel UTV. The Terrain is designed from the ground up for agriculture, grounds care, forestry, and construction work. The Powerland Tachyon is a complete, fully electric (Li-ion) road-legal ATV with tractor
homologation, and environmental benefits.
The Paxster range features all-electric, compact, and agile utility vehicles suited to an exceptionally wide range of applications. Built for sustainability, they are available as new, and 2nd Drive last nut and bolt factory refurbished models. Faunamaster products
include multifunctional and timesaving compact seed drills, sprayers, and flail mowers designed for use with an ATV, UTV, or tractor. Boss also distributes the Air-ROPS AR-QUAD, an automatic rollover protection system for ATVs that expands when the rollover is irreversible.
JCB FORMS JOINT VENTURE FOR MOBILE GREEN HYDROGEN INFRASTRUCTURE
The UK’s hydrogen industry has been given a transformative boost with the formation of HyKit, a joint venture that will produce agile infrastructure to move, store and utilise green hydrogen.
The venture has been formed by JCB, investment company HYCAP and green pioneer HydraB Group to manufacture key products for the clean economy.
Starting in 2025 from a state-of-the-art unit in Oxfordshire, HyKit will build a suite of products to assist hydrogen distribution, including mobile compressors, storage solutions and refuelling systems.
Developed in tandem with JCB’s hydrogen engineering division, the products will provide vital infrastructure for operators of hydrogenfuelled machinery and vehicles in the construction, agricultural and transportation sectors.

the HydraB group, which owns a suite of companies in the net zero space including zero-emission bus manufacturer Wrightbus, hydrogen distributor Ryze Power and H2 producer Hygen Energy, said the new company is a vital stepping stone to further hydrogen adoption.
“I first started talking about hydrogen in 2019 and ever since then we have been steadily building a network of companies that can get this industry on its feet,” Jo explained.
“Between us we have delivered hydrogenfuelled buses, diggers and telehandlers; now we are focusing on the infrastructure to bring it all together.
“Our commitment to the industry is clear –we are putting the ecosystem in place to help businesses realise that hydrogen is a vital part of the UK’s energy mix.”

Horsch has announced a new model in the Avatar drill family with increased capacity and the ability to deliver up to four separate components.
The Avatar 12.25 LC comes as standard with a 9400 litre triple tank that is split 50:15:35. In addition, a Horsch MiniDrill with a 400 litre capacity can also be mounted to the drill. Available as a 12m model only, the Avatar LC offers a 3000 litre increase over the 12m Avatar SD.
The seed wagon layout increases the drilling window with the large tyre widths reducing compaction even in wet soil conditions. The double support wheels at the wings ensure low tracks and optimum adaption to the soil. With its one row design of SingleDisc coulters and

a row spacing of 25cm, the Avatar 12.25 LC is ideal for mechanical population control and for different sowing methods, such as direct seed, mulch seed and into standing catch crops.
Thanks to the well-proven folding design, the transport dimensions are very compact with an outside width of 3 metres for road transport.

NEW SHARE OPTIONS, SPOT-SPRAYING SYSTEM AND 0% FINANCE PACKAGE
OPICO is launching a series of new options for Farmdroid’s FD20 weed-and-seed robot.
To help cater for a broader range of soil conditions throughout the growing season, the Danish manufacturer has introduced A-shares and L-shaped knives to fit to the machine’s inter-row weeding arms. Where previously the only option had been low-draft weeding wires, the new blades are designed to deal with larger, more mature weeds and help in getting closer to the crop plants.
This is particularly important in a growing season when poor weather stretches the interval between hoeing passes, allowing weeds to grow on and get ahead of the crop. The more aggressive action of the new shares also helps to break up capping and surface compaction, particularly in the wheelings, aiding rainfall penetration and providing a flush of mineralised nitrogen for the crop.
In addition, Farmdroid’s new spot-spraying system is designed for either in-row or inter-row applications of pesticides and micronutrients, it provides targeted doses rather than broad-brush, blanket coverage.
The new set-up can be used to target either the crop plant or the bare ground in between. In that way insecticide, fungicide, fertiliser and selective herbicide rates can be cut to a fraction of the normal broadacre rate. Studies conducted in Denmark have shown that the system can
lead to reductions in herbicide use of up to 94%. It also means cheaper non-selective herbicides can be used between the crop rows. While Farmdroid has gained a name for herbicide-free weed control in row crops over the last five years, this latest development broadens the energy-independent machine’s appeal and extends its reach to conventional growers looking to reduce their reliance on agrochemicals.

PERFORMANCE WITHIN REACH
The year 2025 marks thirty years since JCB ventured into the telescopic wheel loader market, focused mainly at the agricultural and waste handling markets, writes Matt Pinnington of Haynes Agricultural.
Since then the name JCB has become synonymous with the image of British farming, whether it be on the silage clamp, in the dairy or loading the drill, but as the face of the industry changes, so must those who supply it- and JCB has taken on the challenge with customary gusto.
Vineyards are one of the few places you wouldn’t expect to see a yellow and black liveried machine, but with a width of just 1.56m the new TM110 telescopic wheel loader will sit neatly in a 2.2m row, and would be perfect for moving dolav bins in and out of rows, or tipping into presses at harvest.
The machine’s design takes after its larger siblings; engine at the rear to act as counterweight, cab or canopy platform towards the centre of the machine – the pivot point is directly in the centre, providing a stable and predictable turn, which means that the safe working full height payload is 1,100kg even at full chassis articulation.
The boom is mounted low down on the front half of the machine for excellent forward visibility and has a maximum lift height of 3.5m for lifting items onto mezzanines, or for stacking empty bins out of season. The headstock is a standardised Euro hitch, meaning a
plethora of box turners, pallet forks and buckets are available from your favoured supplier, or transferable from most tractor loaders. Auxiliary hydraulic flow is standard, and easily capable of spinning a box turner – with adjustable flow control to fine tune performance at the front end.
Providing the horsepower for all this versatility is a 50hp Stage V engine with no AdBlue requirements, driving the wheels through a 30kph hydrostatic transmission- both axles are equipped with diff-lock for use in slippery harvests.
The seating area can either be an open canopy with roof, front and rear screens, or as an option a heated, fully enclosed cab can be specified. Next to the suspended seat, transmission and hydraulic controls fall easily to hand on a joystick used on the larger machines from the range, enabling forward to reverse shuttle and boom operations to be carried out without the operator’s hand leaving it. LED driving and work lights are standard to illuminate the darkest of barns.
The TM110 was revealed in the UK at the LAMMA Show on the 15th and 16th of January, with machines available for demonstration and orders across the South from Haynes Agricultural.

The people you meet want you to do well and challenge your perceptions, while respecting your points of view. The experience has broadened my horizons and opened my mind up to new possibilities.”
Applications are welcomed from those aged 25-45 residing in the UK and working within or influencing the farming, food, horticulture, rural and associated industries. There is no requirement for academic qualifications or a connection to Nuffield Farming, but a passion for the chosen study topic and a willingness to learn are essential.

COLLABORATIVE APPROACH
There were plenty of new things to see at Kirkland UK’s Christmas-themed open day in December, but many of the friends who attended were far from new.
The relaxed atmosphere at the Kirkland UK’s Griffins Farm base, just outside Maidstone in Kent, highlighted the company’s low-key approach to providing customers with the advice and equipment they need in a collaborative way.
“Today is about chatting to old friends, perhaps making some new ones, having a drink, some food and some fun,” explained Richard Pendry, newest member of Kirkland UK’s three-strong sales team.
“I’ve never sold anything in my life,” he admitted, “but I’ve spent 22 years as a farm manager, so I know what farmers and growers need –and, more importantly, what they don’t need.
“At Kirkland we make sure we only sell people equipment that we know will do a great job for them and help them grow their business. We build relationships for the long term based on a partnership approach. Farmers can’t afford to buy kit that is used once and is then stuck in the back of a shed somewhere.”
There was plenty of machinery on display at the open day – some of it for sale at generous, ex-demo prices – but selling was clearly secondary to the food, drink, fun, live music and general party atmosphere that marked the day.
In a particularly seasonal move, Kirkland UK’s Hollie Kamel
abandoned her usual admin, health and safety and HR role for the day, instead entertaining visitors with her fabulous singing voice, performing Christmas classics at intervals throughout the event.
There were games to play, food and drink to enjoy and plenty of opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues or test drive some of the ex-demo machines around the large outside area at Griffins Farm.
The event also allowed Kirkland UK to show off the dealership’s new parts area, its display ‘stage’ for highlighting new machinery, an exciting new partnership with Kramp and a generally more welcoming layout.
That layout now features a familiar sight to anyone who has enjoyed a drink with the Kirkland UK team at the Vineyard & Winery Show or any of the other farming exhibitions the company supports throughout the year. The converted vintage lorry with a drop-down side that opens to reveal a bar is now part of the welcome on offer in the revamped showroom.

The team – which prides itself on its family atmosphere – has also built a new parts area to one side of the showroom. Previously tucked away behind the scenes, the sales desk is now highly visible and set to welcome customers old and new in search of spares, consumables, wearing parts and other items, including clothing.
“The parts desk is now straight in front of customers when they walk in,” explained parts manager Ben Short. “We have also boosted the range of items on sale by around 25% and generally put more of a focus on making it easier for customers to pick up the things they need.” Reflecting the ‘family’ vibe at Kirkland UK, Hollie Kamel pointed out that the team had “rolled their sleeves up and built the new area themselves”.
The increased range on offer from Kirkland UK is only part of the story. The dealership has become an agency for Kramp, an online supplier with an impressive 600,000-plus items from major brands in stock.
Kramp only sells through dealers, which means the link up has given Kirkland UK’s customers an opportunity to access an unbeatable range of spares and consumables for tractors and other machinery via an online app, in some cases at a discounted price.

Tom Ballingal, Kramp account manager for the south coast, said the Dutch company supplied vineyard, agricultural and groundscare parts across 24 countries in Europe, offering a one-stop shop for well over half a million items, delivery to the door and dealership support via the customer’s chosen link, in this case the Kirkland UK team.
“Kramp can supply everything from a PTO to cab glass, consumables, oils and spare parts from 4,000 brands, all ordered quickly and simply via the app and delivered to the customer’s door, usually the next day,” he pointed out.
Another innovation in the refocused
showroom is the addition of a floodlit ‘stage’ where Kirkland UK can showcase particular machines it wants to highlight. At the open day, the star attraction was an Antonio Carraro Tony 11700V vineyard tractor, which fruit and vineyard machinery sales manager Tom Wheatley pointed out was the first in the country.
Tom said the innovative new tractor, powered by a 112bhp Deutz engine driving a continuously variable transmission (CVT) was designed to deliver less driver fatigue and increased productivity. “It’s an ideal machine for a range of jobs, from mowing through to pulling a trailed grape harvester,” he commented.
“Being able literally to turn the spotlight on to different machinery throughout the year makes much better use of the space we have here, and with the new parts area and our mobile bar here when it’s not on location at an exhibition somewhere, this has become a more welcoming and useful space for customers.”
Also on display at the open day was Carraro’s new A Series line of conventional tractors, which Tom said offered a cost-effective alternative to the more highly specced CVT range and was particularly useful in situations where a grower needed a tractor that could be driven by a number of different people.

But while highlighting the new features being showcased at the open day, he also stressed: “Today, though, is really just about giving something back to the customers who have supported us during the year, a chance to catch up and have a chat to friends, neighbours and fellow growers.”
The showroom at Griffins Farm is ideally situated for vineyards and top fruit growers in the South East of the country, and Kirkland UK’s well-established reputation and wide range of carefully selected franchises has seen it benefit strongly from the rise in viticulture across the region in recent years.
“Although we operate across the whole of the country, we are particularly well placed to serve customers in what has become the main wine-producing region in the UK, and as the UK importer for most of the machines we offer, we enjoy great back-up from manufacturers,” Tom went on.
Alongside the Antonio Carraro range, that machinery includes Orizzonti foliage management and undervine kit, Friuli’s high-end sprayers, including the environmentally and financially impressive drift recovery models, Kirkland UK’s own range, including a subsoiler and mower, and sprayers, mowers, pulverisers and more from Orvin.
Also high on many growers’ wish lists ahead of this year’s harvest will be something from the Gregoire range of grape harvesters which has been impressing many in an
industry looking to reduce its dependency on manual labour.
For those concerned about the potential for machine harvesting to release juice from the grapes ahead of time, Kirkland UK offers Sthik grape reception equipment, including a trailer with a separate juice tray that allows any run off to be pumped straight into the tank rather than going via the press.
“With labour becoming more expensive and difficult to source, the combination of a Gregoire harvester and sophisticated grape reception equipment makes perfect sense,” Tom commented.
As well as salesman Richard Pendry, the team has also welcomed a new agricultural technician on board in the shape of Matt Kemsley, who has gained extensive knowledge of diagnostics during an impressive career with many of the major manufacturers within the industry.
“We are excited to welcome Matt to the team,” said Tom. “Whether it’s in Scotland, Wales, Cornwall or Kent, we know Matt will be able to diagnose the problem on the spot.”
Surrounded by customers enjoying the music, food and drink, Kirkland UK owner Scott Worsley neatly summed up the day: “This is basically just our thank you to the customers. People like to come along and see what’s new in farming machinery, have a chat and enjoy a bit of down time. It’s been a great day all round.”
