W.B. George Centre offers the community a chance to learn Tai Chi in a week-long workshop” 13
KRISTY WALLACE kristy.wallace@metroland.com
With help from North Grenville Council, students at South Branch Elementary School used the tools they learned in the classroom to revamp the old snow dump by Bridge Street
The W.B. George Centre parking lot became a sea of black gowns led by a bagpiper on Friday to celebrate the University of Guelph Kemptville Campus’ 2010 graduation and awards ceremony. “We’re excited for her,” said Lori Carpenter of her daughter, Alexandra. “She can do anything she puts her mind to. She’s very success-driven.” Proud parents like Carpenter as well as other family and friends filled the W.B. George Centre to watch their loved ones cross the stage and receive their diplomas and certificates. The ceremony opened with O Canada and Geri Kamenz, chair of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission, spoke to the students about their success and future endeavours. Using a marine metaphor, he explained how he saw the graduation ceremony. “Today marks the beginning of what will be an incredible journey that will last your whole life,” Kamenz said to the graduates.

DANDELION FESTIVAL WOWS PEOPLE OF ALL AGES K. Wallace/ The Advance
This was the scene at Rotary Park on Saturday morning during the 10th annual Dandelion Festival. The park became a kid’s zone with balloon hats and face painting provided by the Kemptville Youth Centre and Ontario Early Years which had a tent set up for arts and crafts. In the photo above Laura Lee MacDonald, left, helps Cameron Simple, age 4 and his sister Katie, age 2 in the arts and crafts tent. The festival, which was open to all ages, was a green event and encouraged recycling and carpooling. Children at the festival also took part in the Voyageur canoe rides set up along the river, a petting zoo set up by the Post Office, train rides and a Madhatter hat decorating competition set up by the Room to Read Campaign and Butler’s Victorian Pantry. For more photos of the annual festival including the bike race, bands and canoe rides see page 10.

In 1961, the KDH Auxiliary organized the first HeyDay — a giant yard sale to raise funds for the hospital. Kemptville area residents donated items for the sale, volunteers sorted and organized the items, and shoppers came from miles around to snap up the bargains. (That first year, donations included a litter of puppies and a Hereford calf.) HeyDay is still going strong: 2010 marks the 50th year of the event. Largely due to funds raised at HeyDay, the Auxiliary has over the years contributed over $800,000 to the Kemptville District Hospital for much-needed equipment to support excellence in patient care. The event takes place the second weekend in June at the North Grenville Curling Club on Reuben
Crescent in Kemptville. Sale hours are Friday June 11 (7-10 pm) and Saturday June 12 (9 am -1 pm). If you wish to drop off donated items for sale, you may do so on Thursday June 10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please make sure that the items you donate are clean, salable and in good working condition. The Auxiliary must pay hefty dumping fees for anything that must be discarded, and those fees cut into the amount that is available to buy hospital equipment. There are items we cannot accept for health and safety reasons, and others we reject because they do not sell. We do not accept: • box springs, mattresses, sofabeds • refrigerators or freezers • propane tanks • tires or car batteries • microwaves

OPINION EDITORIAL
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Things get done when we work together It’s no secret that there are people in the community who just don’t get along. Whether it’s as private as disliking a neighbour or as public as starting a petition against the town’s leaders, disagreements happen on a daily basis A lot of the time, people have a good point. But the fighting can start to get unproductive. What originally was something small turns into something even more heated, and from there, it escalates to stubbornness and even personal attacks against one’s character. But every once in a while, a time of year comes along that brings everybody together. This past weekend at the Dandelion Festival the hair pulling, name calling and accusations came to a halt. Those who are in favour of Kemptville’s upcoming super centres stepped back and supported the community’s great local businesses like Grahame’s Bakery and the Branch restaurant which set up their goods along Clothier Street. The town’s leaders – and their opponents – teamed up to offer fascinating heritage tours and Voyageur canoe rides along the South Branch River. Geez - even the name of the festival refers to a weed that people try to destroy in their own yards every spring! The point is that even if it’s just for one day, productivity soars as these differences are set aside. Local stores will probably get more businesses now that this year’s newcomers to the community had a taste of what they had to offer. Because of the green theme, some people who don’t consider the environment might think again when they litter. And it’s possible, maybe, that the community’s leaders and those who oppose them might have cracked a smile with each other when they saw a child excitedly get their face painted for the first time. But it didn’t take arguing and disagreements to make it all happen. It took the hard work of volunteers, but also good attitudes and a sense of community. The 10th annual Dandelion Festival served as a reminder that the community has the ability to forget the petty differences and enjoy a beautiful weekend together, regardless of ideologies. Imagine how well this community could thrive if this happened every day.

Just over a decade old, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps Defiant (338) held their annual review in Kemptville at the North Grenville Municipal centre on Saturday, May 29. The cadet core arrived in Kemptville a year ago and has
grown into a healthy, strong organization. The annual review, surrounded by military ceremony featured a review of the cadets by North Grenville Councillor Barb Tobin as well as several yearend awards to cadets for their outstanding performance throughout the year. Piped in by the Kemptville Legion
Defiant Commanding Officer Kelly Denis presented Kemptville Legion Branch 212 president Joanne Dudka with a special plaque of appreciation for all of the support the cadets have received from the Legion in Kemptville.
Pipe Band, the cadets began their review by marching into the arena and coming to a stop in front of the assembled guests. Councillor Tobin told the cadets, “What you learn here will serve you well all of your life. I hope we can have a long and happy relationship together,” she added. The Commanding Officer of the Sea Cadet Corps Defiant 338, Kelly Denis, gave a brief overview of the first year the cadets in Kemptville. The group began their recruiting drive in August. Their goal was to have 30 recruits which they did have by November. From November on, the cadets participated in many training exercises and pro-

Old Town Kemptville celebrates Dandelion Festival
From Friday, May 28 to Sunday, May 30 residents from across the area came to celebrate the 10th annual Dandelion Festival. The streets were shut down over the weekend for the special environmentally-friendly, green theme this year. Participants enjoyed a variety of events including dancers, face painting, bands and a bike race which were only some of the many activities offered this year. In addition, the festival offered Voyageur canoe rides for the first time. The canoe rides brought people on a tour around the river and showcased the area’s beautiful landscape.

Sporting a doo rag, goggles that magnify her mascara and a bit of dirt dusting her cheeks, Lora Kerr remembers how she always had a passion for the trades. “When I was a kid, my friends made Barbie clothes. I made her a desk and a chair,” she said. “I always felt I should be in the trades.” Kerr is one of 20 women in a welding pre-apprenticeship program offered by the University of Guelph Kemptville campus that is directed specifically towards women and new Canadians. The 40-week program is offered by the Ontario government to bring people into the trades who might not otherwise be able to access apprenticeship programs. The program offers 32 weeks of in-class training and eight weeks of job placement. It’s also in its second year at the university. “We felt those were two groups that were having difficulty get-
ting into the trade,” said Nick Bray, the school’s co-ordinator of apprenticeship programs. “We have a significant welding department and we knew there was a skill shortage in that area. Quite frankly, we’re always looking for opportunities to introduce women to trade areas.” Kerr was self-employed as a hair dresser for 22 years. In that time, she also worked as a cake decorator and a bartender. “Being self-employed has its benefits but there are also deficits. You don’t get a pay cheque, benefits, or sick leave,” said Kerr. “So I’ve been thinking about it for a while. And I’m at a stage where my daughter is looking at post-secondary education.” Growing up, Kerr said that there wasn’t an emphasis on women working in the trades, and high school focused more on academics. “In grade 8, girls went to home economics and boys went to shop class,” she said. “It wasn’t something that was an option.” So when Kerr saw an ad in the paper for the program she knew she had to apply. She said
she was surprised when she got a call saying she had been accepted. Bray interviewed all the candidates, and said the 20 best were selected to participate in the program. “In a program like this, we’re looking for people who show determination to finish, not just people who think it’s interesting,” he said. Upon finishing the program, Kerr said many of her classmates will make excellent welders because they have successfully conquered the challenges in such little time so far. “None of us have picked up a torch before. But after three days of shop time, we’re all doing this,” said Kerr. “Women make excellent welders.” Bray said that after women complete the program, a good percentage of them will move on to the industry. “We expect even more success this year,” said Bray. “In a K. Wallace/Advance staff few years you’ll be walking into welding shops and see just as Lora Kerr is enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship welding program offered many women as men.” at the University of Guelph Kemptville campus.

cesses. “The new accreditation process for Ontario Hospital Laboratories is an extremely grueling review that takes months of preparation,” notes Lynn Hall, Vice President Clinical Services & Chief Professional Practice Officer. “Our lab team scored 94% and while this is an impressive score, what is more impressive is the fact that the surveyors did not note any major deficiencies and only 29 minor deficiencies in a survey with over 475 standards.” The accreditation program involves many more than just lab staff. The surveyors also met with WDMH’s Chief of Staff, nurse leaders, the education specialist, the Manager of
Human Resources and the Chief Technology Officer. The results were incredible adds Joanne Sidorchuk, Manager of Diagnostic Services. “The surveyors told us that our laboratory provides great service, has wonderful and dedicated staff and has a gold standard backbone of information technology architecture. They were impressed with our facility, staff and attitude. One of the surveyors even said she would love to work here!” Congratulations to the entire lab team led by Quality/Team Leader Tina Mattice. Anne Duquette remembers how tough it was not having her husband around in the year following the birth of their firstborn child. But what was tougher for the Osgoode resident was that Jim didn’t ever get that time back. So it came with great satisfaction for Duquette that the Fairness for Military Families Act was passed unanimously at a parliamentary committee on May 26. The bill intends to extend the period that people serving in the military have to claim their right for parental leave following the birth of a child. “It’s a relief that it’s finally being done,” she said. “It’s too late for us, for it to help our family, but there’s so many more families that will be able to benefit from this and be able to spend time with their babies.” Back in 2004, while the Duquettes were living in Edmonton, Anne gave birth to the couple’s first son, Jacob. Jim, a major, was deployed to the Golan Heights in Israel only four days later, where he spent over a year on a peace-

We learned how difficult it is for a father to miss the first year of his child’s life and come back and struggle to reconnect.” Although the Fairness for Military Families Act comes too late for Jim and Jacob to get their time together back, Duquette said she and her husband are thrilled that things appear to be changing for the better. “We get nothing from this except Jim gets the gratification of helping his fellow soldiers down the road,” she said. “We’ve had nothing but positive feedback from all the MPs from each political party. They’re all on our side. They all see the need for change and all working together to see that it is changed.” Poilievre said that the bill still need to go through the House of Commons and then must be passed by the Senate, but he is hopeful that will be done by summer’s end. “In the future, if any soldier were to have a child and go into the theatre on behalf of the country, two or three days after the child was born and come back a year later, they would be able to apply and receive their employment insurance benefits,” he said.

Easy tricks to conserve fuel Whether due to the struggling economy or an increased desire to live a more environmentally-conscious life, many of the nation’s drivers are exploring ways in which they can conserve fuel. While riding a bicycle to work or taking public transportation are both reliable means to conserving fuel, there are many other ways to do so as well. • Don’t accelerate too quickly. Accelerating too quickly from a dead stop taxes the engine and requires more fuel. • Don’t overfi ll the gas tank. When fi lling your tank, stop once you hear the fi rst click at the pump. • Empty the trunk. It might be convenient to keep your golf clubs in the trunk, but that excess weight could be forcing your engine to work harder and use more fuel as a result. • Close the windows when driving at higher speeds. When the windows are open
at high speeds, that added air drag is reducing your vehicle’s fuel efficiency substantially. • Don’t idle too long in the mornings to “warm up” the vehicle. In general, a vehicle does not need more than 60 seconds of warming up to be able to operate efficiently. • Don’t rev the engine like you’re driving a race car. Revving the engine needlessly wastes fuel and can even lead to engine damage. • Maintain your vehicle. Older filters make it harder for an engine to run at maximum efficiency, so stick to the recommended maintenance schedule. • Don’t keep winter, or snow, tires on your vehicle once the weather has warmed up. • Keep tires properly inflated. Poorly inflated tires lead to drag that makes the engine work harder and use more fuel.

The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada hosted a week long workshop at the Kemptville College, University of Guelph campus. The WB George Centre on the campus was home to more than 125 members of the society there to take part in various presentations and seminars as well as running through their exercises. The society planned the seminar for Seniors’ Week. Nicole Morency is one of the organizers for the event. “ She said that this was an annual event and that the Taoist Tai Chi movement was world wide. There are more than 40,000 members around the world found in 26 different countries. Enjoying the Kemptville meeting were members from British Columbia to the east coast. “It is wonderful here,” said Morency. “The staff are incredible and the food is very healthy.” Describing what the group at the centre were doing as they went through their moves, she commented, “It looks slow and easy but it is a very thorough workout,” she said. Another member, Susan Lundy explained how she first became interested in Tai Chi. “I had seen it on TVO,” she remembers. “I had an interest in it. It calms the mind as it exercises the body,”

Osgoode Village gets ready for community yard sale ANDREA JERMACANS Osgoode will be holding its annual Community Garage Sale this Saturday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. The event gets bigger every year, says Osgoode Community Village Association President, Lori Daneliak. “Up to 60 houses have registered in the past,” she explains. “It’s great for community spirit when everyone joins in the same activities on the same date at the same time.” Participants who registered for the event will be listed on the garage sale map with a star. The $5 registration kits included balloons, ribbons and a sign to help vendors
identify themselves to the public. Maps are free and are available June 3rd at Foodland, Pat’s Pit Stop, and OYA.“The sale happens rain or shine,” adds Daneliak. “It promotes traffic through Osgoode and it really is a great day.” Last issue’s article previously reported that proceeds from garage sale registration go to O-YA but in fact they go toward covering the cost of the kits themselves. Any remaining funds go toward OVCA and its many community projects.

charitable organization.” People of all ages can learn and benefit from the gentle turning and stretching movements of this art and the form can be adapted to match any level of ability, including people with serious health and mobility problems. It is a self-regulated form of exercise that lends itself to the needs of all participants, “said Jim Gazzard from the Ottawa headquarters of the Society. He explained that the Tai Chi movements taught by he Society are designed to improve holistic health. The degree of turning and stretching contribute to the goal of restoring and maintaining health. The health benefits include: improved circulation, balance and posture; increased strength and flexibility; and reduced stress. With regular practice, the movements reach deep inside the body to benefit the entire physiology including the tendons, joints, spine, connective tissue and internal organs. “It restores the calmness and peace of mind that is often lost through the desires and anxieties of daily life,” said Gazzard. Over the years, I have helped a little to get the garden in and then watch it grow while my wife has had the pleasure of doing the rest of the work required. My help consisted mainly of moving dirt, digging holes, and carrying bags of manure or compost to where they were needed. So now after 20 years
of helping I am getting more involved. Here are some easy tips that may get your husband to help (if you are the husband and help already – good for you; if you are a husband about to read this and do not want to help any more than you already are, remove this page from the paper).

Our Garden Remember, it is “our garden” just like it is “our house”. Everyone in the household gets the enjoyment of looking at a garden all season long, so why not get everyone involved? I know that this year I look at the yard and feel it is more my garden this year than ever before, thanks to the previous 19 years of hard work that we both did (even though she really did almost all of it!). Power Tools Help
OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK
Lugging heavy loads of dirt is usually not the first thing going through my mind as I am having my first Saturday morning cup of coffee, and I never remember looking forward to when I knew I had promised to help garden. That changed this year. I wrote earlier about the tiller attachment that I purchased to go on the end of my grass trimmer (weed whacker, whipper snipper, etc.) and how much it has helped us prepare the existing gardens. What everyone should know is that it is simply another power tool that a guy gets to use. Adding the chainsaw attachment has helped make some of the dead branches around disappear and add a little more sunshine to certain areas in the yard. Using power anything is a wonderful thing for me and might be for your “him” too. You can usually tell by what is in the garage or downstairs.

This year our garden was ready earlier than any other year before simply because I answered the call. My wife asked me to help. I said yes. She remarked after that this had been the best year for getting everything done when she wanted it done. Hanging my head in shame, I realized that every other year she had been the one to empty the compost heap into the gardens and move a lot more dirt that I was aware of. Asking for help, goes a long way and you can point out the benefits if you work on something together.

How to get “him” to help in the garden
Let “him” see the value I understand that each year gardens need topping up and extra nutrients added to help in the growing process and that this takes money. It seems each year we spend more on the garden than we budget for but this year was different in that I bought gardening goodies for Mother’s Day (two birds, one stone). While spreading everything I looked a little harder and longer at the garden and realized that after 19 years of work, it looks quite nice and we are certainly proud of the selection and layout. By seeing that value, I was less inclined to complain about the cost even though we still went over budget. Point out how nice everything looks throughout the season and this should show the expense being an investment.

Sports Lauren Hunkin wins Grand Prix of St. Lazare JENNIFER WARD Special to the Advance
Lauren Hunkin of Kemptville, Ontario, won the lion’s share of the $25,000 Grand Prix of St. Lazare held Saturday, May 29, at the 36th Annual Pépinière and St. Lazare Horse Shows in St. Lazare, QC. The crowds turned out for an afternoon of entertainment that included top level show jumping and the uniquely Canadian RCMP Musical Ride. The spectators saw show Courtesy of Cealy Tetley jumping sport at its best, with six members Lauren Hunkin of Kemptville, rid- of the 22-horse starting field jumping clear ing Larry 0146. over the track set by Canadian Olympic Sil-
ver Medalist Michel Vaillancourt to advance to the jump-off. Hunkin was the fourth rider to return for the jump-off with Larry 0146, a 12-year-old black Oldenburg gelding owned by Synergy Farm. The pair worked their way around the shortened jump-off track, leaving all the rails in place and crossing the timers in 36.75 seconds. That performance moved them to the top of the leader board ahead of pathfinder Francois Lamontagne of St. Eustache, QC, who had also been clear in a time of 38.44 seconds riding Unik Circa. Two more challengers followed, but neither was able to catch Hunkin.
“He came out of the box super today,” said Hunkin, 30 of her partner for the past four seasons. “He wanted to win. All I had to do was steer and stay with him.” Hunkin has competed in the $25,000 Grand Prix of St. Lazare for the past three years, and enjoyed a third place finish with Larry 0146 in 2008. She can now add a victory to her list of accomplishments, as well as adding the firstplace prize money of $8,000 to her bank account. See HORSE page 19

That’s what people say. The only problem with Blundstone boots is that they never seem to wear out. Oh, people try. But after a few years of kicking the bejeez out of them, they’re more comfortable than ever and still going strong. Expensive? Nope, they get cheaper by the day.

KRISTY WALLACE kristy.wallace@metroland.com
Grade 7 students at South Branch Elementary School recently got a dose of the real world for one of their assignments. With help from the North Grenville council’s Tim Sutton and Forbes Symon, they came up with ideas of how to revamp the old snow dump by Bridge Street. “Our big goal was making learning more applicable in real world,” said teacher Heather Mahaffey. “We wanted to take the textbook and apply it to the real world.” In addition to going beyond the textbook, the students were able to integrate many subjects they’re studying including math and persuasive writing. The students recently presented their work at a committee of the whole meeting and each had their own jobs to do including speaking about the projects and making a persuasive PowerPoint presentation. During the presentation, called “Operation Snow Dump,” students showed their idea of the Sky’s the Limit project, which turned the old snow dump into a recreational area for the municipality, park space and a picnic area. In addition, they said the new space could have an outdoor hockey rink which turns into a basketball court during the summer. In the winter, Symon and Sutton visited the class to give them background information, guide them and see

When the class was given a $150,000 budget, the students remember getting excited because they thought it was a lot of money. “We thought you could buy so much with it,” said student Ivy deBlois. “But it ended up being like a dollar to us.” Andrew Caicco, whose group came up with the Sky’s the Limit Project, said he was proud of everybody in the
Eastern Ontario AAA Roadrunners now two for two BY MIKE THIBAUDEAU Special to the Advance
The Roadrunners have done it again! Earlier this spring, the team, made up of players from local AAA and AA teams, entered a tournament in Casselman and won the Championship in an exciting final versus the East End Chiefs, that required a shoot-out to determine the winner. They were back playing again this
past weekend in the Ottawa Voyageurs AAA Spring Tournament. Once again, the team made it to the finals versus their rivals from the previous tournament. They proved dominance again, winning the game 3 – 1. The team would like to thank their generous sponsors: Mountain Moulding Limited, The Wood Source, Wills Transfer and Tom Pirie Motor Sales. The team’s trainer is Mike Thibaudeau.

class’ work. “It’s nice to see that the council is giving us a chance to see what we want to do in Kemptville,” he said. DeBlois added that all the groups have something to be proud of. “I think all the groups did really good and we have a lot to be proud of. Even if some groups didn’t include their model, they were still involved in PowerPoint presentations. It’s about being proud of everything you accomplished.” Mahaffey said she was especially proud of the students’ work, and learned something from the assignment too. “Never doubt what these kids are capable of, because boy, they blew our minds and they’re very capable,” she said. Mahaffey added that she will be doing a similar project next year that involves council, but it is still preliminary. “What surprised me the most was the level of enthusiasm by the students,” she said. “They took it on and went above and beyond my expectations.” But the students learned more than planning a park. DeBlois said she and her classmates learned what a small group of citizens can do to change something. “There’s a saying we learned that goes, never doubt that a small group of people can change the world,” she said. “In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Horse rider wins big at competition Lauren Hunkin from page 18 “It was my third year in a row competing here,” said Hunkin, who opened her own training business, Synergy Farm, in Kemptville, Ontario, last year. “The show is close to home, and the organizers do a great job for us, plus the footing is great.” Finishing second was Lamontagne riding Unik Circa for owner Vanessa Boisvert. The defending champions, Angela Covert-Lawrence and Utan, were forced to settle for third this time when their time of 39.88 seconds was not fast enough to catch the leaders. The only other rider to produce a clear round in the jump-off was Isabelle Lapierre of Breakeyville, QC, with a considerably slower time of 41.42 seconds riding Vicki Vale for owner Ecuries de la Chaudiere. Two-time Canadian Olympian Jay Hayes of Orangeville, ON, had the final fence down to end his chances for victory with Leonidas, a 13-year-old Hannoverian gelding owned by Trish Crang. The final jump-off challenger, hometown favourite Covert-Lawrence, had the fastest time, 36.02 seconds, but at the expense of two rails with Unica van de Roshoeve, a 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare owned by The Eastwood Group. While Covert-Lawrence was not able to celebrate with a win on her 34th birthday, she and Unica van de Roshoeve had won the $10,000 Pépinière Grand Prix on Sunday, May 23, edging out Hunkin and Larry 0146. Covert-Lawrence also took third place with Candidate du Marquet, an eightyear-old Belgian Warmblood mare she began riding this winter for owner Emmanuelle Bolduc. Immediately following the $25,000 Grand Prix of St. Lazare, the heartwarming ‘Jump for Hope’ Breast Can-
cer Survivors Ride was held, featuring women who have emerged from breast cancer and are living their dream of horseback riding. Their bravery and courage was then reflected in the RCMP Musical Ride, a majestic display of red-coated Mounties and black horses executing intricately choreographed patterns to music. The day was topped off by with the Fifth Annual Black Tie and Blue Jeans Gala, held to benefit the Cedars Cancer Institute, on Saturday evening. Annual graduation held at Kemptville campus From CAMPUS page 1 “There is no map, no little GPS unit that says turn here or turn there. It is an open ocean - you can go wherever you want. The voyage of your professional life begins here and now.” Kamenz described how the last graduation he was at was his own – 29 years ago.He gave the graduates advice and wisdom he has learned over the last 29 years. Kamenz joked that while graduates might think he is over the hill, he is actually at the summit where he can see a view where others can not right now. One of the first pieces of advice he gave the graduates was K. Wallace/Advance staff to always have passion.“On this The University of Guelph Kemptville campus celebrated the successful completion of their academic career voyage, follow your heart. Passion does help you persevere Friday. through disappointment and failure. Failure is never an easy pill to swallow, but for most of us, it is through failure that we learn,” he said.
“It is said that the definition of insanity is repeating the same failure over and over expecting a different outcome. So learn from your mistakes and try something different. Don’t give up.” Kamenz also stressed to live life by the rule of what goes around, comes around. “You will be identified by how you treat those around you - your friends, your co-workers, your family,” he said. “One of the simple rules I live by is don’t expect something from someone that you wouldn’t do yourself.” After the address, the graduates walked across the stage to receive diplomas and certificates in agriculture, heavy duty equipment, diesel equipment, mechanic, food service, horse industry technician and industrial welding and fabrication. As for Carpenter, she has great hopes for her daughter who received her agriculture with equine option diploma. “We have no doubt she will be successful,” she said.
