The IU Southeast Orchestra explores the riches of the symphonic repertoire. Along with symphonies, orchestral literature in all styles and from all stylistic periods is performed, including concertos, operatic repertoire and major choral/orchestral works.

Commonwealth Brass Band
The Commonwealth Brass Band is a British-style brass band that performs concerts at area cultural events and community festivals as well as regular concerts at IU Southeast, where the band is an Ensemble In Residence.
IU Southeast Concert Choir The Concert Choir performs outstanding and highly varied choral literature drawn from all styles and historical periods, with an emphasis on traditional college repertoire and major choral works.

Indiana University Southeast offers very competitive tuition rates. Additionally, Kentucky residents of Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Meade, and Trimble counties pay Indiana in-state tuition, making a degree from IU Southeast one of the best education values in the region. The IU Southeast Music Department offers several scholarship opportunities for talented students. Most scholarships are open to all IU Southeast students, regardless of the student’s major.

An internationally recognized faculty of performers, composers, and scholars work closely with students in a small, nurturing environment to foster learning and academic achievement. Many members of our faculty are active performers in the world-renowned Louisville Orchestra. The B.A. in Music combines four kinds of study: solo performance, ensemble performance, academic music courses, and courses in other subjects. These shared artistic and academic goals are basic to the philosophy that governs the study of music within a university context. Because we are a smaller school, students are able to engage in projects and performance opportunities that many larger music programs can’t offer. For instance, at large schools students often must wait a year or more for the opportunity to perform in an orchestra. IU Southeast students also have been involved in unique internships, including sound engineering for our own record label and our partner studio, TNT Productions, as well as internships with the Louisville Orchestra and other local arts organizations. Students work directly with our well-connected faculty, establishing connections and gaining valuable experience outside of the school.

The Music Department at Indiana University Southeast is one of a very few music schools with its own record label. New Dynamic Records, part of the larger New Music Project, has as its mission the discovery, promotion, and recording of the music of the next generation of composers and those currently on the cutting edge of music. Music students have the opportunity to be a part of this endeavor by assisting with the recording and marketing of a real-world record label. World-Class Facilities
The Music Department is housed in the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center, located on the north end of campus. In addition to benefiting the educational mission of the university, the Center provides facilities for cultural and civic activities for people in Southern Indiana and the entire Louisville Metro region. This facility includes the visually stunning Richard K. Stem Concert Hall, a 500-seat venue praised by the Louisville Courier-Journal for its “plush, enveloping sonic environment,” the Robinson Theater, a 340-seat thrust theater, the 100-seat Recital Hall, and the Ronald L. Barr Art Gallery along with classrooms, computer facilities, and a new state-of-the-art music technology lab. Audio engineering and recording courses are taught on-location at the production facilities of our studio partner, TNT Productions. Students work in an 800square-foot studio and control room that features an Argosy mixing console and HD Pro Tools system. Since this is a real, working studio, our students get an opportunity to work in a real-world environment that serves clients from all over the nation.
